A Good Guitar at CostCo? Review of the Cort Earth Pack - with Solid Top
It's usually a bad idea to buy a guitar at a department store! But CostCo has a solid-top guitar from a decent brand (Cort), at a decent price. We review the guitar and compare it to cheaper guitars that don't have solid tops. If you're looking at a Temu, or Best Choice, or Glarry, or Alibaba guitar, give this video a look, and check out this Cort.

An Epiphone FT-160 12-string survived outdoors in storage for 20 years. And 70's Epiphones review
Просмотров 21Месяц назад
Today's episode is about 70's era Epiphone acoustic guitars - with their adjustable bridges, their laminate tops and their bolt-on necks. We talk a little about those changes that the Norlin era brought to the brand, and why they were not popular in the long run. Though we're also seeing one of those guitars that survived for 20 years in an outdoor storage facility under full tension from the s...
Godzilla (actually Gosilla) vs GS-Mini Travel Guitar Face Off
Просмотров 28Месяц назад
Bought this weird guitar (Gosilla) for $69 at Guitar Center - monkeyed around with it, and though it doesn't sound nearly as good as a real guitar or even the Taylor GS-Mini, it has a B-Band system on it, and is comfortable to play. These sold new for about $180 - typical cheap Chinese guitar, except for the B-Band thing. We compare the sound of the Gosilla with the Taylor GS-Mini, and discuss ...
Galveston Acoustic Restore and Review, Swapping Tuners, and Removing a Guitar Top Quickly
Просмотров 252 месяца назад
We bring back the Galveston we 'heated up' in a previous video, to see if we can somehow make it playable, with surprising results. On the Hack of the Day, we talk about tuning machines and how you shouldn't be afraid to swap them out. Then we pass judgment on the Galveston, and have some fun with fireworks. And it WAS pretty fun, both in full speed and slo-mo. Found a quick way to remove a gui...
Carlo Robelli Review and Willie Nelson's Baldwin Destruction
Просмотров 382 месяца назад
We take a kidding look at the "Carlo Robelli Crime Family" - a couple of cheap guitars that are the store brand for Sam Ash music. On the "Hack of the Day", we look at some tools for doing setups. Then we destroy the Robelli guitars, in one case recreating the demise of Willie Nelson's Baldwin guitar by a drunk in 1969. And yes, it feels pretty satisfying to smash the top of a cheap guitar unde...
Best Choice for an Acoustic Electric Guitar Package?
Просмотров 1563 месяца назад
Picked up a Best Choice Products acoustic electric guitar a few months ago for $70 shipped - it came with the full package. I review it here - it was too good a bargain apparently - it's up to $80 now! But if you're interested, I would watch the site, because it appears the price they're going for fluctuates - a lot. Though it's still a cheap acoustic guitar, with a bit of mod to the bridge, I ...
First Act Guitars - What Were They Thinking?
Просмотров 3254 месяца назад
We look at First Act guitars - specifically an ME-301 we acquired (thankfully) for free. We look at guitar repair - some tuning problems and intonation - can the truss rod be tweaked? And we ask the question - "Who thought of THAT name for the company?". We compare headstock tuners. Then we subject the ME-301 to some harsh treatment. Please like and subscribe, and we'll keep 'evaluating' cheap ...
I have one of these guitars and it has alot of sentimental value to me. I want to get it playing good. Would a neck replacement do the trick?
we just need to get your sight known out there,I just by chance happened to run into your site, keep em coming
lol, lol, I love this guy! I have been in a bit of depression for a few months now and along with having a bit of an dispute with my lifelong friend about a few guitars and he gave me an old First Act guitar as I was explaining to him how first act and fender squire were some of the cheap guitars of the day and to watch this video had me laughing and high spirited than i have been in a while, obviously now I need to watch more and sub but Dude this was awesome and hilarious for me.
Hello Cort Earth Is 60 better or 810?
Sorry, but I think you have some serious issues. Guitar would have been fine for a beginners or someone who doesn’t have the funds to purchase one.
Request more fireworks.
Duly noted.... will work on that!
… wait… a pro of your age just said that the “first act” on a bill is usually the worst band? … im not doubting your talent as a luthier and i dont know your background as a musician, so i wanna ask, were you ever signed? Or were you ever in a touring band?
I still have the First Act strat copy which I bought for my son when he was young. Got it at Walmart for $60 in the late 90s or maybe 2000/01? These were sold as a beginner guitar, mostly for young kids. I still have all the documents and accessories which came with it. My son had zero interest, so I kept it for myself. .. and it's been my go to guitar ever since even though I have numerous mid range brand name guitars. They were well built guitars for the price, and I must have gotten one of the better builds they put out because it's just a really good sounding, and comfortable guitar to play.. stays in tune just fine (better than my Fender strat does) I think it's a shame you don't donate these guitars to kids who'd be thrilled to have them, But I get it.. it's just your gig for the channel.
Thanks for the comment - I had written a reply right after you sent it, and apparently I didn't save it or send it somehow. Glad you had a good experience with your First Act - it is pretty strange how it goes with guitars - sometimes a $3000 guitar just doesn't sound that good, or play that easily, other times a cheap guitar sounds and plays great. And I do intend to donate at least half of the guitars I fix up to those less fortunate - probably by handing them off to local churches to find the right people. It's a bit of a challenge to find the deserving young person on my own.... With this First Act, I just thought it was seriously too wonky to be a positive thing to give to a starting out player. Thanks for watching, and God Bless.
I know theres problems with the guitar. But ultimately it was a playable guitar. Instead of throwing it like a weirdo You could have gave it to a kid who wouldn't otherwise be able to get a guitar. Theres lots of kids or people for that matter who cant afford even a cheap guitar. That guitar would have helped someone atleast to get on there way. And dont say it wasn't playable because it was . It was plenty good for some beginners to practice the fundamentals with. Oh well it I guess you had joy and satisfaction destroying it. For what views? Lol. I would have had satisfaction giving it to someone who would have been very thankful and appreciated it. I would have told them its not perfect but will help you get on your way. Thats just me though. I like helping out others.
Thanks for your comment - As stated in another reply, I think your idea of giving these cheap guitars, once fixed up, to a person in need is great. Working on that, and perhaps I will work that into the videos too, to encourage others to do similar things. I have given away as many easily as I've destroyed, and plan to continue that. In the case of this First Act, I didn't feel bad about destroying it - because I did all I could and it was still WAY out of intonation - the example with the tuners in the video didn't do it justice, I could have probably played something to show how bad it sounded. After tuning to E, the low E fretted on the 3rd fret was almost an Ab. Hard to fathom, but I could make a good case that this guitar might have been hard even for a beginner to put up with. Anyway, hope you'll keep listening, and commenting - God Bless!
Yeah that make good video fixing up a beater and gifting it to someone that would appreciate it.
@@chipheart9 maybe either way gifting it or not but if you want someone to learn wouldn't you want them to learn the right way with the right sound otherwise they think what they have and hear is right and they have to readjust their whole learning skills all over, as for a kid to start out with, there are plenty of $2 guitars out there, keep the video's coming, keep what's good or reusable and make a bow and arrow out of the next one, lol, Shazam used to fly on one in the Shazam cartoon when we were kids,
