The Kasermandl sung about is a small, benign but also malicious alpine spirit that wreaks havoc in the alpine hut after the cattle have been driven down in winter. It is said that the Almgeist himself was once the dairyman of a mountain hut. Due to his lack of care in handling his cheese and butter products, he is said to pay for his misdeeds after his death and has to spend the winter on the mountain pasture. According to legend, any hiker can release the Kasermandl from his curse by eating his home-cooked “Muaß”, which is mixed with dirt and animal droppings. The song has been recorded and published very often - probably in one of the most famous versions of recent times by the duo of the same name “D'Kasermandl” (Klaus & Ferdl) s Kasermandl” can also be heard in the 1962 film comedy ‘Der verkaufte Großvater’, played by Hans Moser and sung by Lolita.

This makes me want to learn German, not because I plan to learn to yodel, but because I just want to know everything he's saying. My son's preschool teacher showed us "Chicken Attack" about a decade ago and I have been a Takeo fan ever since! <3
