*Hindu Laws codified by Maharshi Manu adopted as fundamental law by countries of East and West. Commonwealth of India Bill, 1925 - a precursor to the Draft Constitution of India - based on the teachings of Manu.* Maharshi Manu is considered to be the first law giver of the world and his Manusmriti as the most authentic book of law. In his book *La Bible Dans L'Inde* written in 1876 he described: *"The Hindoo laws were codified by Manu more than three thousand years before the Christian era and the Hindoo laws were copied by entire antiquity, notably, by Rome alone, leaving us a written law, the 'Code of Justinian', which has been adopted as the fundamental law of all modern legislation."* Further, *Annie Besant* (President of Theosophical Society from 1907 to 1933 who had remarked that Swami Dayanand Saraswati was the first person to proclaim India for Indians), has made significant contributions to the exposition of Manu's teachings in her book Hindu Ideals and Dharma. Dr.Kewal Motwani writes about Annie Besant in his book Manu Dharma Sastra: *"Dr.Besant presented the fundamentals of Manu's teachings and applied them to the problems of India and the present-day world, and it would be no exaggeration to affirm that she made the world Manu-conscious as no man or woman has done during the last several centuries. Perhaps, her most daring and monumental piece of work, which may well be the most outstanding contribution to philosophy and sociology of political institutions and of great benefit to the whole of humanity, was the drafting of a Constitution for India, the Commonwealth of India Bill, based on the teachings of Manu.* (Source: Manu Dharma Sastra by Dr.Kewal Motwani with a foreword by Ernest Wood of American Academy of Asian Studies,SF, California, published by Ganesh & Co.(Madras) Pvt.Ltd., Ed.1958).
