Suppressing Weeds on a Homesteading and Modern Day Farm
The left is setting the groundwork to pull the 14th amendment on Trump. All this talk about the role of law, peaceful transition of power and the constitution. You can bet your bottom dollar on people and I’ve got Lawson plays for the military to work against the citizens now.
I know nothing about beekeeping. What do you do to protect the bee hives in a bad storm or tornado? Looks like they would easily topple over sitting on those blocks.
Good question. So far, knock on wood, we have not had a problem with storms or tornados. The horizontal hive are a bit heavy especially with bees, comb and honey.
@@SavvyOrganicsFarm Good to know. Bad storms and tornadoes are always on my mind as to how to handle with animals and such in this area. We live in DFW, but have a desire to move to East TX and start a homestead in a few years and curious how people navigate these things.
@@organizedchaoslife Let God handle the storms of life. We are loving our new homestead location. All the wildlife and forest. Beekeeping and hive placement are important. Use trees, brush, or buildings to block high winds. Consider which side of a hill would be best. Hives should be facing to the east. These tips should help them weather any storm.
@@SavvyOrganicsFarm Your right to let God handle the storms. Great tips and insight. Thanks for sharing!
Just discovered your channel. New Subscriber. Will look at some of your other content. I also live in East Texas, North East Texas about 12 miles north of Longview. You in this area too? Hope so as I would like to participate in your classes.... Jeff
Hey Jeff! Thank you for watching our channel. We are working on getting more consistent with our videos. Happy to meet a fellow East Texas! We are about 15 miles south of Athens. We would love to have you at any of our upcoming classes.
thanks that was really good to see. the cross comb, the broken comb, really helpful. Most people show only the perfect and we need to see the hard stuff. I'm about to start keeping bees, salt pond style top bar, in south Texas. happy anniversary!
Thank you so much. We appreciate you watching. We will have to check out salt pond style top bar. Not familiar with that.
any advice on using water glassed eggs that have gone bad?
Good question. But, I can’t think of anything but disposal.
Maybe he did have glasses but still not safe.
True. More safety gear is needed for cutting down trees. Thanks!
No chaps, gloves, glasses and now you are trying to kill the poor donkey ?? You need to learn a little bit about safety. 😂
Good video. That was a big tree!
Thanks!😅
That was fun to watch
Thank you!
At what temp do you set your freeze dryer drying temp? Mine doesn't go below 100 degrees.
Our Harvest Right freeze dryer is automatic. The software and sensors controls the process. I have seen it go down to -40 degrees F. What brand freeze dryer are you using?
Beautiful land. Yuck weather day. I find my older girls can be picky when I give them something new as well. It's usually the cooing rooster that gets them to learn they like it. Pullets are ready to try everything.
Thank you. Rain or shine, the chores have to be done. True, older chickens can take a while to adjust to changes in their feed.
Love this idea. If your tree dies from a simple screw you had way bigger problems with your tree.
Thank you. I anyone is concerned about putting a small screw into a tree there are a few options. One option is to apply alcohol to the screw. Another one would be to use an aluminum screw that will dissolve over time. But, I am with you. Putting a screw or a nail in a tree has never given me a reason to believe this causes disease.

Salting Soil --will prevent any growth for years to come, useful in some instances where you have gravel or want no greenery-growth of any kind including grass. nothing will grow ever until that salt is removed, dissipates over time from rain or flooding that area with water, and or adding a layer of new top soil or ... "When you are faced with sodic soils from salt buildup, a combination of gypsum and heavy irrigation should be used to reduce the amount of sodium -google." Salt is you friend if you want no growth of any kind and want to stop worrying every year about grass & weeds.
Does this hurt the chicken?
Not at all.
Your sound recording is messed up I can't hear anything you're saying
If you want to avoid putting holes and screws into the trees, you could try using leather lace or some other natural cordage to tie a tag to the tree. Leather would hold up for quite a while I would think, plenty of time to get familiar with the species, but still eventually break down without girdling the tree or leaving metal in it.
Yah, Driving fasteners into trees is such a great way to introduce diseases into your trees and when the tree dies from the disease or age, the screw and metal label will have been encased in wood, and then it can destroy your chain saw when you have to cut the tree up BRILLIANT~!!!!! Just bloody damn brilliant~!! Would be be too much to just learn the species of trees on your property?
Thank you! Those are good points. We appreciate your feedback.

As you are spraying and carrying the tank push the handle all the way down and give it a quarter turn clockwise. It will lock it in.
You have it double panned, that is why it took longer and did not brown as well.
how do you get ot to adhere to Brassicas? It rolls off my broccoli leaves
When we used it on brassicas, it seemed to roll off but did leave a powder residue. You can also apply it to brassica as a dry powder dust.
@@SavvyOrganicsFarm I think I'll try that. It will definitely be more labor intensive but I'm a hobby gardener, so I only have 50 or so feet of Broccoli.
You can mix in a binder material. I don't know for a FACT that it works with this clay, but when you use a sulfur dust you can add a product like Southern Ag Spreader-Sticker. I assume it would work with the clay powder.
Spartan Mosquito is paying $3.6 million to settle a class-action lawsuit.
Interesting. Many say it works but others say it doesn’t.
@@SavvyOrganicsFarm Yes, company was doing fine selling to people who think it works.
Wont it clog the sprayer?
Depends on the sprayer and if properly diluted. Give it a try!
Two things. Proper measurement so that it's a thin coat, and two the sprayer should be able to adjust for how much comes out, or if you have a nozzle with multiple patterns, use one that allows for a decent amount of liquid to come out. It doesn't need to be a jet stream or you're wasting the spray, but it can't be a fine mist. Yes, this can clog a sprayer using the wrong setting. See how your sprayer work with different settings first, THEN go from there.

Is the vinegar pet friendly?
Good question. We really don't know. We don't have any pets, just livestock. And, we have not used it in our livestock areas. The vapors dissipate quickly after application and the liquid dries quickly in the hot sun.
Bresse last summer. We made the same mistake you made by not cooking correctly. Our eggs are about half the size of yours. ❤❤❤
Did you candle your eggs at any point during the breeding process? Because if you didn’t you’ll never know wether those eggs were fertilised to begin with. For those with fully developed chicks inside: Did you manage temperature and humidity levels correctly? Did you do a test run with the machine and put in a extra thermometer and hygrometer to check on deviations compared with the numbers on the display? I happen to know that Brinsea had problems with a batch of fans / control unit. It might be you have one of them. Brinsea will know, based on the production date.
Great feedback and suggestions. Thank you!
Does the Vinegar 30% kill the grass?
Depends on the kind of grass. It will kill grass but may require multiple treatments.
I needed to watch that tool working for understanding it. Thank you!
My daughter has a mean rooster on her property that belongs to a neighbor. It attacks her & her family. How can people get it to quit attacking them?
Do you like the texture, taste, etc? Do you think the refrigerated lunch meat "container" will keep in the fridge for a week or so? [based on what you added to your ziplock].
We liked the second one better with salt, pepper, oregano, and thyme. I would recommend slicing it and refrigerating it, not in the lunchmeat container. There is a hole (for the temp probe) in the lid and it is not an air-tight container. At least take it out of the container and put it in something more air tight for longer storage.
@@SavvyOrganicsFarm Thanks! Sorry, I should have been more clear ... about the lunch meat container .. I meant ... like a vacuum-sealed bag, or ziplock, or glass storage container. Just whatever I'd store it in the deli drawer. Would it last about a week in something like that?
Yes. It will last at least a week. Salt and other seasonings also prolong shelf life. We freeze whatever of it we want for later use.
@@SavvyOrganicsFarm Sweet, thanks!!
Need to give recipe please
Thanks for watching! We will keep this in mind. Basically, it is ground chicken and whatever spices you want to use. The first time, we just used salt and pepper. The second time we added salt, pepper, basil, and oregano and made it a bit more Italian.
I was rushed into moving from Texas to Missouri and it's tons of work. It was August and hot as the dickens! I'm praying for a smooth transition for y'all and lots of new adventures. Texas Deb 😁
Thank you! Prayers are appreciated.
Just a safety note for people who’ve never done this before: This is very very strong vinegar and is very corrosive to your skin and feels very harsh when inhaled. I wear a mask and gloves when working with this stuff and spraying. I use it for all sorts of things like peeling old wallpaper. Some people dilute it but I never have.
Thanks! Great advice.
I use 45% and never had any issues
