These are my Altums ( look a lot like Scalare ) guarding their eggs
NEW AQUARIUM
I sold my Angel fish. When I saw all fourteen of them in a commercial tank ( a local pet shop bought them ) I was impressed. They looked large, majestic and phenomenal ( if I say so myself )
I decided that cichlids although interesting need more space ( especially with offspring ) than I can provide.
So I'm going to do something completely different.
I'M GOING ASIAN.
I know this doesn’t look like much yet, but bear with me.
With a little ( well, perhaps more than a little ) imagination you can almost see a large bamboo forest ( vallisneria ) and its undergrowth ( don't know the name of the short grass ) The vallisneria is beginning to grow ( also horizontally; what are those extensions called ...

I don't really know what to do with this aquarium. Too many Angels and they're all getting sexually active. Perhaps I should get rid of all the fish and start over again, but this time with a better and longterm plan. Maybe go back to basics: some Endler guppies and Mollies. You only have to feed the fish and that's it. They'll produce offspring that present no problem. Don't know yet, but thin...

It is impossible to see, but two of the Angels I've bred have spawned. It's the behaviour of the pair rather than a visual confirmation that makes it clear. Although I've switched off the wavemaker and the internal filter in that corner the fry ofcourse have no chance of survival. The last shots were of a short grass-like plant that refuses to grow.

Did you see the light rippling in the water onto the driftwood ( 1.10 ) ? It's like winning a small price in the lottery when you had forgotten all about it or grassy tramlines in the middle of a large and busy city: very nice.

I've changed things a little; not a surprise. I do that all the time. No more plants. Some driftwood. And a bit of a current caused by an external- and internal filter and a wavemaker. I'm not sure how to arrange the wood ( it's still buoyant ). The firethroats are gone ( except for some fry I couldn't catch; the majority are in another tank ) Ofcourse this a work in progress; I've hardly begun...

Ofcourse the titel doesn´t really fit. There aren´t many white/yellow angelfish or Vallesneria plants to be found in the Amazon basin, but with a little imagination... The Meeki fry are eating flake food now Which is a blessing because hatching brine shrimp is a bit of a chore and I've run out of frozen Cyclops. You can use frozen Cyclops instead of Brine shrimp as long as you can keep them mov...

Or is it ? While all the fish ( including the fry ) were feasting on brine shrimp the adults largely ignored the fry. ( other adults than the parents ) The fry should provide a better meal. Perhaps the adults are getting used to them and regard them as part of the everyday surroundings. Or maybe they are trying to lull the fry into a false sense of security, who knows ? There are more fry left ...

The Meeki parents control about 75% of the tank where they and their offspring can forage as much as they like. Apparently that is not enough.

I knew that my Aequidens Pulcher had spawned, but since they had in the back of the tank I couldn't see much ( I'm stiil surprised at how small the parents are ) Today they finally showed themselves. They look well - fed, as do the Meeki fry. later in the video. Fortunately I managed to get the brine shrimp hatchery up and running in time. Less fortunate is that the Meeki parents keep uprooting...

@@Akwarium360L No, not great at all. ( using 'Google Lens' to translate ) I'm going to change it all again. How about a forest of Vallisneria throughout the tank ( and very little else ) for the Angels. Perhaps Endler guppies and some dwarf cichlids for the 'forest floor' ?

In reality the light isn't that bright and harsh.
Ofcourse they aren't really Altum. Apparently people use the word Altum for a large variety of Angelfish. I don't know how to get hold of the real thing.
Next time I'll turn off the sound when I am recording. Good thing I didn't do something embarressing.
