    What model Leslie are you using?

    • @MrTreppeda
      @MrTreppeda Месяц назад

      None. That's the built-in sim on the Viscount DB5, The Viscount Legend sim is much better. Both are adjustable and I try to model them after my older 122 Leslies that are slow to brake.

    • @gregoryschleitwiler9601
      @gregoryschleitwiler9601 Месяц назад

      @MrTreppeda You can adjust that easily on your 122. Just tighten the belt till you have what you want. I have a Hammond SK1 that I can adjust that electronically. If you don't have to lug it around I would stay with 122. Let me know if that works for you. I sold all 3 of my Leslie's when I was sponsored by Hammond. The SK1 has been a godsend. Still, nothing like the real thing, but in stereo it's as close as you can get to the real deal

    • @MrTreppeda
      @MrTreppeda Месяц назад

      @@gregoryschleitwiler9601 I still own two 122RVs on my B3, one 261 on my A100 and a Hammond HR40 and PR20 tone cabinets that I won't sell (yet). The Leslies are older 9pin versions so I can't connect them to the VIscounts without an adaptor which I don't have. I only use the Legend on gigs and don't have to haul the Leslie(s). You're absolutely correct, nothing sounds like the real deal for Hammond players but my Legend fools 99.99999% of my audiences and is a breeze to haul around and tons of fun to perform on.

    Superb Organ playing/sound.... however, my perception of "drums too loud" was immediately confirmed by reading "Big Band leader TJ Tomlin on drums".... Ha! With the volume/balance levels as they are in this video (which incidentally should have a 'straighter' frame featuring the whole organ keyboard, imho... it's disconcerting to have so much of it cut off, visually) the title should read, "DRUM feature, with occasional organ inserts!" That said, musically this is truly superb musicianship. Thankyou.

      Thank you for your nice comments. Regarding the recording. The room was very small and the camera was as far back as possible. When I recorded it I had no intention of posting it anywhere. I was most interested in the audio. It was a "quick and dirty" recording of a jam session using one mic for the drums and a direct input for the organ. Although it's not well balanced, it came out better sonically than I thought it would. Again, thank you for your comments!

    what kind of bass speaker was used to bring out that bottom octave on the pedals?

    • @MrTreppeda
      @MrTreppeda 4 месяца назад

      The organ was recorded using the direct outputs into a mixer. In the room, the mixer is feeding an amplifier and 4 Carvin 15 inch two-way speakers. These are lightweight portable speakers. Unfortunately, Carvin went out of business a few years ago. A single mic was used to record the drums. That mic picked up a little bit of the live sound of the organ.

      That is an Italian-made solid state Viscount DB5. I purchased that in 2005. I played it through a stereo PA system and 99% of the audience thought I was playing a B3 through a Leslie. It's still a very good instrument but the new clones do a much better job.

    Good, but...copy of Hammond. Hammond lovers and players play only on the original B3, A100, C3, or state of the art new Hammond XK, or the incredible new B3. Never on copy by respect to Laurence Hammond.

    • @MrTreppeda
      @MrTreppeda 4 месяца назад

      I own a 1968 B3 and a 1963 A100. I started playing professionally on a BV running through a 122RV many years ago. There is nothing like the real thing. Unfortunately, the Hammond organ company went out of business in 1985 so your only option, if you don't want to haul around one of the heavy originals, is one of the many clones. There are many that come close including those from Suzuki who purchased the rights to the Hammond and Leslie names around 1989. Personally I prefer the offerings from Viscount. The Legend, for example, has stayed true to the original offering a very similar playing experience to my B3/122 Leslie combo with the added feature of an independent output for the bass. It's also much more affordable. I won't ever sell my B3 or A100 but most likely will never again play them in public. The Legend is that good. Definitely not perfect but really really good.

      @MrTreppeda 4 месяца назад

      Hi Pat. Having played the B3/ Leslie 122 combo professionally for many years, the Viscount DB5 definitely sounds different. However, nearly 100% of the audiences thought I was playing a B3 with Leslie. The sound was that convincing. The Viscount legend that I use now is an order of magnitude better than the DB5. I don't have to make any compromises when playing because it is exactly like sitting at my B3. In some respects it's better then playing my B3. Primarily because I play bass with my foot and not my hand so the ability to route the bass pedals to a different output is a big plus by eliminating the Leslie and vibrato effects from the bass.
