Chronicling the adventures of some guy who likes to run...
CHRISTMAS MILE / 2024-12-25
It's that time of the year where I run an all out mile just to see where I'm at. Age is definitely catching up with me but I went hard and tried to hold on.

A comparison of the 4 different shooting modes available as of firmware 7.3.4. [ UPDATE ] - I accidentally output the footage using an SDR timeline which is rendering the HDR footage incorrectly. In fairness, the HDR footage actually looks the best. I'll upload an HDR version for people with HDR capable screens. I had the idea to do this route in reverse a week ago but I didn't think it was wise to go into unchartered trails at the tail end of my run so I started exploring early. To my pleasant surprise, the new route connected to a familiar spot on the Backbone trail and then it was game on. Some trails were closed for maintenance so it ended up being 19 miles instead of 17. Give yourself 5 extra seconds for the terrible state of that track
💯🔥
Do you use a insta360 for filming?
@@alechirschauer1592 For this video, I used an Insta360 X4 since no drones are allowed at that location.
@ I use one as well, but mine is the older X2 version. The different angles you can achieve are pretty cool. I took some footage in the Grand Canyon this past summer, and the insta360 almost makes it look like drone footage
@@alechirschauer1592 Totally. With a 3m stick, you can get some amazing views! I also went to the Grand Canyon with a 360 camera: ruclips.net/video/ngf_bS3paNM/видео.htmlsi=xuDfn5fetfqtStCA
I am assuming that Hover Cine is similar to log and can be used to color correct in a video app? I haven't tried this out yet as I only had my X1 for a day.
I can't get over liking "normal" better. Not that it's a problem. Maybe just preference.
@@digitalupgrade1Totally fair and I do think it's subjective. Generally speaking, I find Normal pretty good out of the box if slightly overexposed. I think it's great if you want something good looking to use immediately. The HDR was actually the most accurate when seen on the right device otherwise it looks a little washed out.
The difference in color rendition is striking -- assuming you did no color grading and these are all straight from the camera.
@@AZGeek520 Straight from the camera. See the HDR version from a capable device to see what that really looks like.
wow, thank you very much!
Thanks for this. Please let me know what program/software used to divide the display into 4 screens? Tnx
I used Davinci Resolve. You simply scale the clips 50% and then position them using X and Y coordinates.
Slo mo FTW!
When I have had it, it always has mint. Your recipe sounds great. I will try it.
1-10 how do you rate this race?
It really depends on the weather. Generally speaking, it's typically very hot on race day and the first lap will feel fine. It's the second lap that gets almost everyone especially as the temperature rises. The course is quite challenging due to the Bulldog climb itself which is nearly 4 miles long with 1800ft of climbing. So, I score it as a 7/10 with the following deductions: -1 point: Because it's a double loop (can feel repetitive) -1 point: It's not really a 50K (more like 46.5K) -1 point: Almost always a hot race (I'm not heat compatible) Otherwise, everything else about the race is good. If you get there early enough and park inside the park, the start/finish is right by the parking lot. You could also park for free outside the park and walk in. Being a SoCal trail race, it's very organized with great aid stations, volunteers, and well marked courses.
How do you like it?
Honestly, I continue to really love it and it's always in my trunk. I probably use it at least twice a week when I head out to the trails. It also makes for a good impromptu towel if I need something to lay down on at the beach. It also makes for a nice pillow when taking car naps.
@@groovc Awesome. I ordered some based off your review. Just waiting for them to arrive.
Did I miss where you pointed out where you ran.?
Westridge Trail in Pacific Palisades, CA.
@@groovc thanks. Nice one. I've done a few Hover running videos but I keep viewers thinking as to how they are produced. Many d ask, "who was filming you?!"
nice run. does it keep up pretty well at faster running speed like descents or intervals?
I've taken it to the track and blasted out some 200m sprints and it did a good job of keeping up. Its limit is around 20km/h (12mph). I guess if you're "elite fast" then it might not be fast enough. It works best when your speed is constant. Also, if it's a moderately windy then it might affect how smoothly it tracks you.
Footage looks great. I've thinking about getting one of those drones for my trail running.
That thing works pretty well!
Where did you park? I read the area is by permit only
I parked on Almond St. in the neighborhood. There were no restrictions when I did it. You then have to run up Skyline Rd. until you hit W. Cucamonga Truck Trail to start the run.
The watering should be from top to bottom like in actual torrential rain situation. Then the water will seep in. But then I'm probably asking for too much from this jacket.
Cool video man. Was that into shot even with the X1?
Yup. Everything shot with the X1. That particular one was in manual mode using my phone to do a side pan shot.
Not a drone it’s a flying camera can’t fly as high as a DJI drone or distance can’t go as far
fantastic shots & editing! great to see both cams complement each other
Nicely done! The two cameras compliment each other.
Beautiful run as always Victor keep it up!
You captured a lot awesome views! Really enjoyed it! Great music choice too! 🔥💯
The tunnel shot was my favorite. ✨ Great run.
These for wide or narrow? How was the energy return and grip?
They're wider for a Nike but still not for wide feet. Energy return is livelier than react but less bouncy than I thought it would be. Grip still isn't as good as other brands.
Really nice video, I like your shooting style and edits. Keep up the good work.
Thank you!
Great video. It looks really sharp! What pole/stick did you use?
270Pro selfie stick + ulanzi hummingbird universal mount
Tokyo city lockers love them since the 90s!!! Big ups to "Tony T!"
how you diggin the zegama.?.. just bought a pair yet to try though.
I ran a 50K race in them and felt like they offered decent cushioning for that type of distance. Interestingly, the Zegama's ZoomX doesn't give the same pop as the road-based ZoomX. It's maybe a little nicer than React foam (which I actually like for trails). The traction ended up being marginally better than previous Nike Trail shoes but it still suffers from grip issues in wet conditions. The upper is very comfortable though. After the race, I rotated them with some other shoes (Norda 001 and Altra Mont Blanc BOA) and found that it was my least favorite as the others provided a more stable base, better traction, and a softer ride. At the end of the day, it's a decent shoe but I don't think I'd buy it again unless they make changes to weight, traction, and a softer ride.
@@groovc yeah i heard about the grip issues, living in CA though its mostly dry so i think it should work. Thanks!
This is the best advertisement I have seen for the X3! Congratulations on the journey and the video!
Wow amazing!
This footage is amazing!!!
What this video is about? Why making a video about a shoe if you don’t say anything? Pointless.
gotta read the caption friend
@@joshlikesbikes the point of making a video is to show content that can’t be explained by reading. Caption is only a text. It’s RUclips not Twitter friend.
I'd like to buy this jacket, so what size should I buy if I’m 5’10 and 165lbs? Please reply…
I'm 5'9" and also about 165lbs and wear a size US Men's Size Medium. You should be good with a M size.
Thank you for your reply! Can I ask one more question to you? How did you wash this product? Isn’t it shrink?
@@giirok I always hand wash with cold water and hang dry. It won't shrink. It dries very very fast!

What kind of camera set up do you have Victor
Insta360 One X2 with a 40-270cm extendable selfie stick.
Good times Victor and KREW! Nice filming and editing. I'm still full from that Super Burrito afterwards haha. More trail adventures soon!
Now there's a crew to run with!
I have a question. How long is the stick/pole that you are using for your nsta360 One X? Is it a standard invisible stick or something longer?
It's a 40cm selfie stick that extends in different lengths all the way to 270cm. From 200 to 270cm you can get very drone looking footage! 270Pro Backpack S. It's carbon fiber so it's very light and easy for me to carry on long runs.
