Ben's Firewood
США
Добавлен 14 окт 2011
Welcome to Ben's Firewood on RUclips. My name is Ben and I operate a small firewood side business in southern Michigan. I hope to show some of the things I do when gathering and processing firewood that you may find entertaining. Enjoy!
Resplitting White Oak and Stickers from other channels!
In this video I re-split White Oak which will be used for meat smoking by a neighbor of mine. He prefers nice small splits to help maintain an even temperature in his smoker. At the end, I add a couple stickers from other RUclips channels to my Eastonmade Ultra. Thank you to the following channels:

Splitting Cherry and stacking with the Eastonnade Ultra
Просмотров 85821 день назад
This is a simple video of splitting Black Cherry on my Eastonmade Ultra into the bucket of a John Deere 2025R and later stacking it. This wood was from a tree service job that I recently obtained. Thanks for stopping in!
Stihl MS 661 in big Hickory!
Просмотров 6 тыс.Месяц назад
In this video I cut some tree service Hickory with a Stihl MS661 chainsaw. Hickory is some of the hardest wood I will typically work with here in southern Michigan. What are some of the harder woods you work with? Let me know in the comments. Thanks for tuning in to my channel!
Pool noodles in the woodyard???
Просмотров 2702 месяца назад
In this video, I show how I use pool noodles to protect from scratches and scrapes when loading IBC totes with firewood. The edges left from cutting the tote can be sharp and filing them helps, but won't completely eliminate the chance of getting scraped up. Thanks for watching!
Adding an umbrella to the Eastonmade Ultra
Просмотров 563 месяца назад
Installing a standard patio umbrella with 1.5" diameter pole to Eastonmade log splitters only takes seconds and gives nice relief from the sun on those hot summer days!
Bucking a load of Cherry with the MS500i
Просмотров 2,7 тыс.3 месяца назад
In this video, I dump a load of Cherry wood from my Diamond C MDT dump trailer and cut it into 16" lengths with a Stihl MS 500i. Thanks for checking it out.
Enhancing the Eastonmade Ultra Pusher

Check out how I added some grip to the pusher of my Eastonmade Ultra. Thanks for watching!
Eastonmade Ultra splitting Walnut with 4 way wedge

In this video I split smaller Walnut rounds with the Eastonmade Ultra and the 4 way wedge. Sorry for the shaky camera at the beginning. Enjoy!
Splitting White Oak on the Ultra with JD 2025R log lift!

In this video, I split large White Oak rounds on the Eastonmade Ultra. I leave the heavy lifting to the John Deere 2025R. Enjoy!
Splitting large White Oak round on Eastonmade Ultra!

In this video, I split a large White Oak round on the Eastonmade Ultra splitter. I leave the heavy lifting to the John Deere 2025R. Enjoy!
Hello Ben, Saw you at the PB show, but I was talking with someone. When I was done you were gone. So if you come Rural King on a Tuesday or Wednesday look me up. I have an idea about smoking wood that I’m still kicking around with!
I just filled an order that they wanted smaller pieces also! Your valve might be leaking oil into the cap on the backside. Should take it off and see👍👍
Ben, thanks for the shoutout ! Sorry ai missed you at Bunyan. There was a lot to see there. Jeff
New sub, York sent me. Keep cuttin' brother!
Thanks for the sub!
Love splitting cherry but I hate stacking! Was good to see you this weekend. Let me know when you are ready for your mean green machine. State safe.
I hate stacking onto the ground 😔. I’ve only had to do it once, and it reminded me of how grateful it is to be able to stack into a tote that sits on two pallets or into one that my tractor keeps at waist high.
Hello, thanks for watching. Setting a tote on pallets is a great idea for not having to bend down so much.
Nice looking stack of wood and good day splitting Ben! Jeff
Thanks Jeff! Too bad we didn't cross paths at Bunyan. Take care.
Ben, just found your channel, new sub here. You can't beat an Ultra for speed! That cherry is some nice stuff and splits so nice. Good luck with your channel. TCT
Thanks Tony! I've been watching you and Chris for a long time now. I hope to be able to create more interesting videos over time. Thanks for watching and commenting!
🤘I think that Turd Conveyer needs to be put out to pasture up North! What a great set up. You guys will be cranking it out now. Congrats!
as impressive as the 661 is at cutting the big rounds, equally impressive is what You have stacked up, nice tight well built ricks.
Thank you sir! I guess I have a little OCD when it comes to my wood stacks...
Morning. New sub from Brad's live. My splitter has some what appears to be keystock, welded on. Very little slippage unless angled cut
Great video! 90cc saws eat wood fast, I use a couple ms660’s in my firewood yard.
What size bars do you run on your 660s?
24” mainly best buckin length imo to not bend over or hit the dirt. I have 28” also I use. The 32” stays put up unless I’m felling a large tree and it’s needed to time consuming to sharpen.
When you old like we two long bars save back ache
You could fit a 20 inch bar for that size lumber. Would cut much quicker and less fatiguing.
20” bar isn’t going to get through those big rounds. That’s going to create more work having to cut from both sides.
I probably could get away with a shorter bar in this case, but that's what I have on this saw for now. I run an MS362 with 20", MS500i with 25", and this 661 with 32".
First cut proof boots and pant, after helmet....
❤ this saw.
You can’t use a regular disc grinder 🤣. You have to use a flap disc grinder. It literally makes the edges smooth.
Great idea Ben! I’ll have to give that a try. Should save on clothing. Jeff
@@adirondackwoodsman yeah, they’ll save on clothing,…and skin as well, lol. My brother in law was the one that told me about it. I didn’t k ow what he was talking about because he didn’t really know what it was called. Went to Home Depot and put him on FaceTime, and he showed me which one he was talking about.
How are you liking that 500i? I love mine. It cuts really nice. I just keep the chain touched up, and it’s always ready to go. Do you sell your firewood? Or is it all for personal use?
I really like the 500i. I have a smaller and larger saw, but find myself using the 500 most often. I sell the firewood.
@@bensfirewood gotcha. I’ve thought about a bigger saw 😁. It would be more of a “want” purchase than a need. Who knows?? I know for sure that I’ll get a smaller one by the end of the year.
I was enjoying the video until you add the music. Had to skip this vid.
Oh NO ! not another KENS KUTS !
Beautiful load of cherry! I like your measuring tool. I hate paying to replace mine when it gets busted up out in the wood yard. Do you have a link for the studded magnets? Thanks for sharing.
I don't have a link to the exact magnets. A friend of mine orders them in 100 packs for a product he produces. They are very similar to these: www.amazon.com/dp/B0C49B62GF/ref=sspa_dk_rhf_search_pt_sub_3/?_encoding=UTF8&ie=UTF8&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9yaGZfc2VhcmNoX3BlcnNvbmFsaXplZA%3D%3D&pd_rd_w=P8aBX&content-id=amzn1.sym.74b85f4a-bfbe-49a3-8252-7e9927a19318&pf_rd_p=74b85f4a-bfbe-49a3-8252-7e9927a19318&pf_rd_r=0X2E4GN37HY153R8C78G&pd_rd_wg=5leU6&pd_rd_r=4366c3d3-9ca0-4969-aebe-8e7e2b8e5834&ref_=sspa_dk_rhf_search_pt_sub&th=1
I bought one but haven’t installed it yet. Definitely great on these sunny days.
Have a safe and enjoyable 4th of July everyone!
Same here to ❤
Firewood a hobby or full time ? How many fc a year with this set up?
Ben, Splitter looks like it is working great! You get a lot of wood out of each of those rounds.
Thanks for the video. I was curious on how well it would handle big wood. Pretty impressive!
I usually don’t have a problem with the wood popping off the push plate except when it’s cut at an angle
Hey Joe, I agree. Once in a while when you get one with an angle cut, it can pop out on you. Usually not too big an issue, but if not paying attention, it can be a bit dangerous.
98% of the wood that I split with my Ultra I use the single wedge because I like to control the size and shape of the pieces. I only break out the 4-way when most of the rounds that I need to split are 8”-12” in diameter.
Plus, the 4, 6 way and up wedges produce way too much garbage (mulch) 🇺🇸🪵🪓♥️🪓🪵🪵🪵
This guy has the cleanest yard of any wood hound!
Is walnut a smoking wood? Compared to oak how long do you season? This is first video splitting walnut...good job..
Thanks for commenting. From my experience, Walnut seasons faster than Oak. The bark seems to hold quite a bit of moisture, but the wood itself dries quite nicely.
I am also pretty particular about size of splits. Like you, I usually only use the 4-way when I have quite a pile of rounds in that 8"-12" range. I recently got a load of Oak and Hickory logs from a logger that were all on the small side (6"-12"). The 4-way worked awesome. I set it kind of high so that in most cases the two pieces on the top came out the right size, then I split the bottom two pieces one more time each. The 4-way definitely saved me time on that wood and it didn't create a crazy amount of scrap either.
It's working quite well. Definitely helped reduce chance of wood slipping out sideways.
How is it working with the modification?
Great video! I pick up my 2025r this May. Looking forward to using it in my wood yard.
Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. I think you'll love having a 2025R around to do some of the heavy lifting.
