Daily Catch FRIDAY J31
The rain arrived! So did the wind and the water is rising so keep an eye on it! The catch and release fishery on the Sauk and Skagit keeps the rivers open, but the North Fork of the Stilly remains open above French Creek for another couple of weeks. REMEMBER: the lower river closed Friday.

This week we needed another way to mix up the coho. My teenage twin daughters are kinda tired of fish and I do not eat beef, so it is a challenge as a single father to create meals that please a ver critical audience. We love butter chicken in our home and we usually have a bunch of yogurt around, so while I didn't have ther exact ingredients I would have normally chosen I made a very delicious...

It has been so cold in the morning and the water is VERY clear, so looking for moving water has been critical. We managed to lose another torpedo float, so another fun day on the water for sure! There were lots of anglers out as most spots on the North Fork of the Stilly had someone braving the cold air. We got the skunk off and practiced catching white fish on the fly rod on a gorgeous January day. It is so cold in the mornings it has been better to wait until the temps warm up rather than waste time with iced lines and eyes. The cold temps are also wreaking havoc on my camera batteri...

You're probably wondering how I ended up here. I fell. Hard. I hit the Skagit to see if more steelhead had made their way through this week. I didn't see the sights I saw last week, but I did see activity despite not hooking up. Seeing shadows and rollers would have to suffice. #pnw #fishing #fishingtiktoks #fishinglife #addicted

I caught my last chrome keeper coho on Dec 17 on the Nooksack River. Instead of the usual fare, I decided to do a tempura lunch with one of the filets over the weekend. You can use store bought Kikkoman tempura mix if you want, but I highly recommend making your own dipping sauce with light soy sauce and two mandarin oranges and some ginger. I also add a teaspoon of paprika for a bit of color a...

It was one of the most beautiful days you could possible imagine with clear skies and pillow frost across the forest. The water is the clearest I have ever seen on all the rivers all at once, no matter which one drive by they all look lower with each passing. We could actually use some rain and we aren't going to get it. Put in those casts though, the fish are here!! Tight lines and thanks for ...

I saw lots of steelhead again on Friday, but this time on the Stilly. After losing my floats to the logjam, I stopped by Holiday Sports and got some smaller 1/2 oz instead of the 3/4 oz I have been using since October. Clearer and colder water has the fish very timid and skittish. Go small! Go far! The fish are here and everyone knows it, there were folks everywhere. #fishing #pnw #steeliesonth...

That mono slider above your actual leader is so overrated, just creates another point of failure
You've been pretty close! I'm sure you'll land one soon
Checked out a spot low in the river today and fished 5 amazing bobber runs, no dice. They need the actual rain to move in
I’m still out here in the muck on the Stilly
@PNWDaily my buddy caught a small steelie on the Sauk last week
Wouldn’t fish in the Bellingham bay unless your trolling for salmon also if you do fish from shore use a buzz bomb that’s all I fish from shore I catch 5 lb silvers from the shore at bullvard
@@JackWilliams-qb7rj nice! I actually have caught dogfish, kelp greenling, coho and shit I didn’t identify from the shore using hoochie spinners.
Hope you're getting good gas mileage....................
Driving sloooow.
I was just up at the first spot on Monday. No luck for me
Yeah, it is slow but there are fish around. I talked to a couple of guys that have hooked up this week. Chris got a hookup on the Sauk yesterday. I saw a pic in a group post I wanna say was from the Sauk as well, but they didn't say what river
Just caught 3 white sturgeon today - my first ever!
Wow, nice! I got skunked again 🦨
Love to throw spinners for steelies
Don't freeeeezzzee your soft beads off! When it's cold out try some good old Ande' mono, or piss on your reel!
How do you tell the salmon is done but not overcooked? I'm terrified to ruin it
About five minutes each side is all you need for coho. For kings I go 7. I do give them a double flip at the end to make sure they are evenly browned.
Thats a greal meal idea! Throw in some rice and veggies and full course!
Absolutely, I was just cooking for the video since the kids were at a sleepover all weekend. When doing tempura batter as shown I usually fry up onions and carrots and other veggies. I also do a beer batter and do it fish and chips style with onion rings or fried pickles.
Boohoo, go away with this bs
Thanks for commenting, appreciate it!
I grabbed those floats thanks 😂
That’s hilarious dude 😅 finders keepers
@PNWDaily i did leave one lol it was a little too far to reach.. Goodluck out there
Hooking into one is still good! Sucks loosing floats
Losing so much gear totally sucks. Can be frustration instantly and sets the tone. I wonder if you got a old batch of vanish. I love that 4lb test for my ultralight trout setups, never tried it above that lbs for anything. But yeah if the knots keep busting or slipping id be pissed too
The colder it get's, the clearer the water........ I like the eagle claw steelhead floats, they are inexpensive but if you strike a rock they explode............... So I stick with the Beau mac's
My dad teaches in skagit and they are hitting the beads
Goin out there Monday
Getting cold out there! I'm waiting for it to get so cold that the eye's on my rod freeze every cast..............
Well, just fish at sunrise for the next week because you're in luck! I'll be sleeping in
Was at the Skagit today for a few minutes... Mainly to try a couple of new set up's. It was so clear, you could see bottom clean across the river................ Got the waders wet and checked for holes!
It was a picture perfect day, but I didn't get into any schools like yesterday.
Was that last clip up at a hatchery? The water looks so clear
Nope 😊
Hey . I live in Lynden spending the winters in AZ.I fish the sack all the times .look foreword to your pod cast every day .met you at the frog pond .
See you when the pinks get here I suppose!
Clear water! Must not have had the rain up there as we did down hear............ Got a set up today, going to try a Diawa Tatula 200 left hand. I always thought Diawa were cheap, this one had a bigger spool and wide line guide when trigger pulled..... Looks like a quality unit.
Tatula's are solid reels!
Dang brother sorry about the double drama with taking a spill and busting the rod then losing the drift bobber on the tree. Conditions looked super nice though
Use spinners 100 % for steelhead ! One of my favorite ways too catch them .
@@ScottSteele-l5x I catch them that way as well, but I catch more with beads the last few years. I still throw them and spoons.
This might be one of my favorite of your videos. We've all had days like this - in fact, me, yesterday at Ft. Casey for sw steelhead (aka unicorn fish)... fished about 45 minutes and lost about $20 in gear 😂
@@tdn137a we’re all chasing unicorns these days 🤣
If you float gear, might want to invest in some bobbers ;) Saves on wasted days and fuel..........................
@@His1child I loaned out my gear and had extra dark ones, just don’t like using the dark Beau Mac’s unless I am drifting egg clusters for kings. I fished a while longer but wanted to grab more at Holidays on the way home
Seems like a good jerkbait lake by the bridge piling slow suspending or crawling a jig or chatterbait. Will be i teresting to see how spring plays out for topwater bites. Some big bass in there I've seen from friends fishing it.
I have caught many largemouth at Wiser in the spring, but it gets overgrown really fast due to all the ag surrounding it.
I haven't gotten around to fishing that lake for bass yet even though I live pretty close to it, but I've heard the alge and toxins are bad so catch and release only. Was cool to take my wife last year and walk on it when it froze over but yeah the weeds are thick for a while on it. Sad to see the birds getting smacked.
Any lake with a highway through it is a no-go for keeping fish for me, I also don't keep anything out of Terrell since it is next to the aluminum plant and refineries.
@@PNWDailyi get it. I've worked at both p66 and bp. Just transfered to marathon in Anacortes Monday to help out. I'll be back for the turnaround and have my poles in the truck ready to fish after😂 but I haven't fished any of the lakes on whidby area yet so I might scout some out :)
@@BlackRifleSurvival Most of them are private, including one owned by Starlord himself
Dead of winter birds die. People are vicious birds die. Don't assume....
One or two birds here or there is one thing, but there were multiple birds of different species. Already confirmed cases in the county according to the county. Reported it to WDFW.
10 miles for #2! I keep my bucket/seat and bio bags with me at all times!🤣🤣🤣
I'm within striking distance of the Cowlitz, but not really interested in combat fishing
This is my first year steelheading. Been doing lots of research, but I'm still confused about the regs. Are steelhead regulated as other trout or other game fish if there are no emergency regs?
Steelhead: Release all wild steelhead. Min. size 20". Daily limit 2. Open during salmon or game fish seasons unless as otherwise listed. (So it is a game fish and the app will always list the exclusion if not allowed)
@PNWDaily thanks. That helps a lot
Looks like the devils elbow across from Thunderbird... I saw a sturgeon breach in the middle back when the silvers were running, it had to be 6' to 7' couldn't tell it's tail didn't leave the water....................
I was wondering if the water had come down any, might need to go get the fish you missed 😂
Yes, Stilly is selective gear 🤦 looking up the rules is kinda a pre-req to fishing 😂😂 As for barbed hooks, I prefer barbless for penetration.
If I have barbless on I don't worry too much since it's gonna be legal. I knew it was open, but I check so many places the day before trying to make a plan of attack and just spaced while I was out there.
I fished farhter upriver same day as you! We didn't see a single steelhead, but one guy caught a nice coho at the hatchery.
I got a bright chrome coho on the Skagit on Saturday evening, there must be a few getting caught cause there were anglers everywhere this weekend!
My whole life of fishing the Skagit, I've never caught any white fish! Caught Catfish but never a white fish.... You're good at it! What still open on the Skagit? Just dolly's right?
Dolly/Bulls and hatchery trout in the slot (14"-19") plus the misc stuff. I catch Bulls on the hoochies and spoons, they cut super pink just like a salmon and are such fun so hoping for one of those.
@@PNWDaily I caught a nice one at the ferry landing north side, 18" using a froggy and chrome Dick Night I tossed it back, and a 24" one at Gilligan straight out from the mouth............ That was a keeper! Super fat
Dude love your videos sick bro sorry for you loss just lost 2 family members I feel you by the way are you on Fishbrain
Yep, I am on Fishbrain @PNWDaily! Thanks for your thoughts and condolences.
I would've dropped by cranberry lake and see if the trout were hitting on the way back lol. I have been on the bank by the bridge but not on the north end. I'll be back out start of pink season whooooo hoo!
Oh snap! I forgot about pinks I have been so obsessed with steelhead these days. Super excited, it is so fun catching pinks on the kayak.
There were dudes bait fishing at both the pullouts along Cranberry on the way out, lol
That whole stretch did look fishy though!
The water has looked fishy all week, but it's been tough!
I went out too, but the Chehalis system is still blown out and chocolatey
Yep, lots of high water around making life harder than it already is searching for Steelhead.
Cool concept for a channel!
I haven't lived in Western WA since 2002 but I don't ever recall the Sauk being that clear. Are you above the Suiattle?
We are above the confluence of the Suiattle in the last scene, but start below. Both the Sauk and Skagit looked PERFECT New Year's Day.
Nice man love your vids and love watching you fish my favorite spots on the nooksack love to see someone from my area who fishes my same river
Appreciate it, don't forget to subscribe and share!
@ thanks man I see you every once and a while at the south fork keep catchin em
What thing do Daiwa reels do that "pulls out"? I have over 20 Daiwa baitcasters. Tarpon, cobia, snook, reds, baby shark....all good
I have had a couple CR80 models that started to release line when you'd try and set the hook. It apparently is a known design flaw, one that my friend and I talk about working at a local tackle shop.
No luck at the confluence? I saw that one jump! you did also... I had to give it up, had things to do....
I hate it when things get in the way of fishing, lol
The stock is low.... It's a no go! Was gonna go in the morning, I'm hoping next season will see better return.
Gonna need a set of binoculars to see your float go round the bend 😂, fish on! 😂 only time I go for a mile hero float is when i need to re spool my dang line when i develop major twists haha.
My ex was kind enough to inform me I mispronounced the Methow River. My apologies.
