    This is why I think these schools are scams, in California it’s $450 to do a bunch of low speed drills any RUclips coach like DanDan or motojitsu has already given you FREE! I paid a guy $30 an hour to show me how to ride his ninja 300 in a parking lot doing this same stuff, went to him 6 times over the course of 3 weeks. $180 bucks and personalized 1 on 1 coaching or damn near $500 bucks for this BS 🤷‍♂️

    Man. I dropped the bike I was using too. Thought I had it in neutral and was trying to back it up to park. Instructor simply called everyone over, and said “ok, now we can show you all how to properly pick a bike up without throwing your back out” gave me instructions on where to position myself, and I picked the bike up. Instructor then asked if anyone else wanted to try. One lady did, and he laid the bike back down so she could try. After she lifted it, he gave it a once over, saw everything was fine but the clutch lever. Walked over to the sea can, quickly swapped the lever, and we went about our day. This guy is Jerk instructor, and most are not like this. My instructor’s let people who failed come back the next weekend just for the testing portion and retest for free. They also would give FREE 1 on 1 or even 2 instructors - 1 student lessons on a weeknight if you wanted to work on something in particular. If your instructor isn’t making you feel like you are becoming a member of a welcoming community, find a new instructor

    Doing my MSF BRC next weekend (Sep 2-3) in Plympton MA. Can't wait. Doing it with a buddy of mine, so should be lots of fun. I took the 1 on 1 2-hour introductory thing which I think helped a lot. The coach there was absolutely fantastic and extremely friendly and helpful. It was serious, but fun, and he helped out a lot by correcting bad habits immediately. eCourse wasn't so bad either. Ready to do this! Next, I just need to find myself an awesome bike!

    • @floridaredneck
      @floridaredneck Год назад

      I didn't know there was an introductory thing; never heard of that. So, how did your class go?

    • @raso_i
      @raso_i Год назад

      @@floridaredneck in FL if you take msf, theres an eCourse that takes about 5h to complete, just a lot of non skipable video and a test at the end of each chapter, than you will have 2 days with motorcycle at the range.

    • @floridaredneck
      @floridaredneck Год назад

      Yeah, I have my endorsement from earlier in the month and was just commenting that I didn’t know there was a1-2 hour introductory thing. I was also wondering how your class went. I'm a returning rider from decades ago, but never had taken a class till now. In mine, only one girl dropped her bike, but that was early on. Our instructor was sneaky and gave us our road test without telling us. When we parked, he said, “Congratulations, you all passed”. What he had done was minimized our anxiety by testing us and we didn’t know it. I’ve found people here on YT are very supportive to new and experienced riders. I also found that not to be the case on Quora and Reddit in particular. People were posting photos of their gear they got for Christmas and their bikes. So, I posted a photo of my new gear too. I was socked at the number of insults and condescending comments I got, but my jacket wasn't Dainese and my helmet wasn't Atlas. Still, I didn’t expect to get “hazed” after my MSF class. I posted, “Happy Holidays, Be Safe & Wear Your Gear” with a photo of me in my gear. One woman said, “You’re not my mother, don’t tell me what to do”. One guy said, “New rider obviously, that jacket is going to rip to shreds on your first slide”. My response was, “Yes, I am new, did people bully you when you got your fist gear too?” There were so many like it, that I deleted my photo and all of my posts under the “motorcycle” section, “un-joined” the group and changed my profile to remove anything about motorcycles. I felt I was being attacked and still can’t figure out why. I didn’t expect that. I thought I was joining a group of people who relate and are friendly with each other. I had thought as long as people are being born, that there would be new riders and the experienced ones would share their knowledge with newer ones. I thought I would make new friends and meet up for rides sometimes and participate in bike events. I had shopped for bikes for months and basically breathed bikes during that time. I got financing and picked out a bike, but having been bullied and shamed for being new, I’m losing interest. I hope that doesn’t last, but if it does, it was a great experience. The good thing is, I have a lot of new gear now, but I might not need it. I’ll have quite a bit of money going forward that I had intended on spending on a bike, so that’s a good thing. Bad thing is I’m over 60, so I knew if I did not do this now, I never will. If people are going to make me feel bad after a $10,000 investment, I should take up a new hobby. I had a completely different idea of motorcycle riders from when I used to ride 40 years ago. People weren't judgemental then. @@raso_i

      That’s what it is in Minnesota also. Listen to coaches, relax, if you can ride a bicycle, you can ride a motorcycle. Listen and have fun. Another thing, eyes up and turn your head to look where you going and it will all work.

    I finished my class today and dropped the bike at the start of the 2nd day. I felt like such an idiot but the instructors were fairly cool about it. I was certain I was going to fail but I somehow eeked out a pass despite putting my foot down during the 90° turn part. That and the slalom were my biggest worries. But taking the slalom slow and riding the clutch really helped.

    For those of you that are planning to take the MSF basic course - Find someone to take you to a parking lot first and learn how to ride a little. My experience in the course was almost like you needed to know how to ride, before you ever got there.These are not lessons. The "coach" would not answer any questions, nor would he offer any solutions to a problem you might be having. They just give you time to "practice". But we all know what happens if you practice your mistakes, don't we?

    I just recently failed the riding evaluation. One piece of advice I would give is to find the friction zone and be able to absolutely control the speed of the bike BEFORE the MSF course. Be able to control speed by feathering the clutch, even if only in a straight line. Thank me later.

    • @tinapham202
      @tinapham202 2 года назад

      Most people don’t have bikes to practice the throttle control before the course and it’s almost like a crash course being only 2 days. That’s kinda a little too quick for some people to develop the dexterity. And it okay to not have it down after two days especially if you switch bikes, just maintain control of the bike. I had trouble with throttle control and stalling the bike off stops too. So I switched from a Honda cb 125cc to rebel 300 on my second day and I was able to pass. Don’t be afraid to try different bikes during the course.
