it used to be that a person would work at a job because the risk was lower than entrepreneurship even if the potential returns are lower. Now jobs don't offer any security and I suspect many employers follow the Jack Welsh advice of firing the bottom 10% of performers even if they have been strong performers for years but maybe slowed down because of a life event. One might as well give entrepreneurship a try.

I agree, jobs nowadays definitely don't offer any security. We have to make our own 'job security' nowadays by developing the skills to be easy hireable, and by creating other sources of income. Becoming self-employed (even partially) and earning some money from that is really rewarding, because then you realize that you're not dependent on your company paying your salary anymore.

Perhaps, one day we'll upload them to RUclips! You can watch one of my short films I uploaded on the other channel ruclips.net/video/Kivlmb8pfE8/видео.html, but this is a 2-person student film made during Covid, so in terms of production quality it's really nothing compared to the feature films.

Irina initially thank you for your wonderful advise! Having employed for 15 years at a company, I have changed job the last 3 months for an increase pay of 33% and a managerial role for 1st time. However there are micromanaging behaviours by the top management and I consider leaving for a new challenge, targeting same C-suit role in my profession but to another most promising and high paying sector. Is this a wise decision or there are any downsides to make this move? By the way, I start attending specialized certifications, aiming to jump in this new sector ( Compliance officer at a Fintech firm)

Plenty of good takeaways on this podcast! The one that stood out the most for me was being overly concerned with image curation. I believe too many people overemphasize the one-directional approach from employer to prospective employee. Like you mention, it works both ways. It's best to see the work relationship as contract based and mutually beneficial until it's not and then looking at what options are at hand.

If you stay in the same company, convince your boss that you're due for a promotion to a higher position that covers a much larger, significantly larger area of responsibilities! Of course it's not that easy, for that you'd need to have proven yourself capable and have all your receipts (data, stats on how you increased profit, sales, or efficiency, saving costs, for the company).

This is one of the best and most relatable videos I've ever seen. She's spot on! At my company, the last time my pay increased was October 2022 when I was promoted to Team Lead. If we're talking about review-based or cost of living raises, it's probably 2 years. What are others' thoughts on this? I've been at this company for 5 and a half years. Each week my husband (who works there, too) and I say "tomorrow we're going job hunting", but as soon as we get off work and have slept for the night, we're too tired to then go look for something different. This has been going on for awhile. I've been picking up the slack at work for others who are either lazy or don't possess the traits that I do to get certain things done in a timely, accurate manner, and I've been so engrained in the company for so long that I'm simply too tired to do something about it on my off days :(

In my case, I've worked at the same company for 5 years and leaving for exactly these 3 reasons that you mentioned, and now, after 1 year at the new company, I'm starting to ask myself the same questions, and yes, I think I need to change this job already, even though it's just been 1 year, but I find myself depending on the company, there's no new experience anymore and the chances of getting paid more is very low, even though I'm enjoying what I'm doing, and it kinds of fulfilling, but I think the nature of my specialty as an occupational therapist is what makes it fulfilling, not just this job!

I've been with the same company for 20 years now. I'm able to work from home since 2020 and I get to set my own hours. As long as I put in 40 hours a week and meet deadlines they're fine if I run errands and do stuff around the house while on company time. I can't find that anywhere else. I've had 3 job offers in the past 6 months for substantially more pay, but I'd have to drive to an office a minimum of 30 miles away (I'm very rural), they require travel out of town overnight fairly frequently, and the employees I've talked work an average of 60 hours a week. I'm debt free and have my house paid off so I don't really need the extra money if I'm going to sacrifice my personal life for it. I'm basically just coasting now.

The moment they start chanting the "one family" mantra my BS radar starts blaring and going ape-s...t. I like those brief get-togethers where the big cheese praises everyone and no one in particular for hitting another sales milestone, but it ends right there. No bonuses, no perks being offered, not even some shitty gifts or just compliments. Employers believe they can really get away with this kind of outright crap and expect loyalty, punctuality, team spirit. Life is so short and no corporate fat cat in a swivel chair or a fancy outfit can ever take my own freedom and will away to decide on my destiny, my lifepath and make my career choices. We live in a very twisted world where loyalty and decency seldom pay off. Well, for some lucky folks working for Origin USA led by Jocko Willink ans his great team of real leaders, who know their onions and value their human capital that may not be true, but for all the rest it sadly is a fact of life. If you feel undervalued, overworked you definitely are. As soon as you have this gut feeling something is wrong in the Kingdom of Denmark, it's time to just hit the road and get after it. This podcast delivers a clear-cut message in a very professional, unequivocal manner. Great content!!!
