Portal runs without steam (even on a PC which has never had steam installed) on win10 if you just move 'gamedata.txt' to the hl2 folder but when I moved the game to my pentium 4 XP machine it doesn't throw any errors but doesn't launch either, despite having directx 9 (5600XT), 1.5GB RAM, C++ 2010 etc. This should be all the game needs to run. I know that you were unsucessful in your quest but you did at least get the game to open can you help in anyway with any dependances that portal needs?

actually, i managed to run portal 2 on my grandpa's pc (windows xp), since portal 2 releases even later so you can try find the first release version of portal 1

this is how i first played, it was released for that kind of operating system. a real challenge would be windows 2000 or older.

use a real pc and portal from the pirate bay

i mean, it dosent crash when it runs a map for sure, it ran the background just fine, did you try any other maps, or loading into maps with the console

It can run easily since it released on 2007 when xp was still super popular. You just need to install pirated one instead of steam version so you won't get crashed like that.

2007 Portal was released, Windows XP had support till April 2014...I tried title suggest you can't but was a 7yr overlap...

To fix the first part of the game you can change the portal id to 0 because p2's default is 1, at least thats what i remember from my days of experimenting with both games

You can unpack vpk and copy "materials", "models" and "sounds" folders from P1 to P2 andit would actually work

i knew about the 2nd and 3rd surprisingly. discovered the second one when i was messing around with cheats

I had just realized something. Chell uses those bars Wheatley has to hold on to as she and Wheatley gets sucked into space right? But as soon as Wheatley replaces GLaDOS with the first core transfer, he loses those bars, allowing him to open and close his side covers. Like they're completely gone. I don't see them pulled back or anything. And once Chell puts a portal on the moon, he conveniently gets those bars back for Chell to grab onto.

if you die in godmode and have your screen fade to black, simply type in console "fadein 0"

in the moon cutscene you also get shrunk down. you can prove this by using ent_create to spawn things on the moon, and they’ll be bigger than normal.
