A Silent Warm Up Activity for Brass & Wind Players
RIP
Bravo! 👏👏👏
Lee is just awesome. He blows the roof off of Royal Festival Hall on the London Phil's new recording of Mahler 8 with Jurowski conducting.
I had the privilege of meeting Rodney Friend three times about twenty years ago; supplying and installing a hi-fi sound system at his London home. One of the most engaging clients in the world of the arts that I ever came into contact with. He even acknowledged and showed an appreciation of my classic car that I'd turned up in, which he said he'd owned one when they were new in the early 70's. I seem to remember him telling me that the finest sounding venue for playing his violin was within a chapel in or around Bristol. He doesn't appear to have aged at all since I last met him. If you see this, I wish you well Sir.
wonderful. will you upload the full version of the masterclass?
I love eating and drinking, too. Also, I play tuba. What a coincidence.
"You must know what your level is" - good advice
Oh, yeah - Lee Tsarmaklis is a monster! I love his playing.
Mark, what you are doing is a wonderful expansion on what Vincent Cichowicz developed. You sound wonderful!
Does this software allow the two participants to play at the same time and hear the combined sound? For example, playing a duet.
You can play together but there is a delay - so slow tuning of notes works, but duets don't I'm afraid.
Hi, thanks for your video. When I set up a meeting, the settings in the top right don't give me the option of using head phones, only speakers. I'm not sure why. Any help on this would be really appreciated!
Hi Krysia! Try exiting the site then plug headphones in before you enter the room. Also do your headphones have an in built microphone? Sometimes Source Connect seems to get confused with which mic it's using... Ideally simple headphones with no mic (i.e. use the computer's built in mic) seems to work the best. Good luck!
Hi Nicole, that service looks a bit of a find. I wonder how they make money out of it to pay the bills! I will have to investigate it. Have you come across Jamulus? It offers high quality near real time (30ms? 20ms?) audio. I have it set up on my 7 yrs old laptop and it appears to work well. Am going to try it for real with a singer friend on Friday. A German string quartet has even been using it for rehearsals, for several years can you believe. ruclips.net/video/lB4ZxDb9vnU/видео.html To be fair the software is probably a bit awkward to set up for many people, particularly on Windows computers. And it currently only works on computers, not tablets/phones. But one to watch/encourage, and perhaps use - with people who can set it up. Unsurprisingly there's been an explosion in interest in the last few weeks. And yes it's free (open source). Best, Giles
Thanks Giles!!!!
Sounds fantastic! Thanks very much
Thanks Nicole!!
Many thanks for this. Quick question; if the teacher has a professional account and 'enables original sound for meeting' does that mean that the student's device will also have original sound, either automatically or by selecting it?
Hi Sharon, in your settings in your Zoom account, go down to the bottom for the audio settings and select 'Allow users to select original sound in their client settings'. They can then switch Origianl sound on if they want- remind them to wear headphones if they do this. On some devices it isn't better than normal sound but always worth a try! Good luck
Thanks - loads of really great advice. I have been surprised how many clients (Businesses moving online) are music teachers, and this advice is spot on for them!
Glad it was helpful!
Great video, thank you. Just one thing - you can have unlimited time on the free account if there are only 2 people in the meeting. 3 or more must be paid.
A Gent thanks yes this is correct!!!
That is correct
Hi Mark.. thanks for your help.. if you could post the page that would be really apprecaited.. thanks Steve
Safeguarding varies depending on age of student. If you’re teaching someone over 18 and have their permission to record it’s ok. If they’re under 18 and you want to record then they can record it at their end. You, as the host go to ‘participants’ then hover to the right of their name and a drop down list appears. You then choose allow record and then the student can record to their desktop.
Hi there, Im not sure recording and saving videos of students (children) is acceptable from a safeguarding point of view ? We are not allowed to use phones in one to one lessons at school because of this.
howarth did not design that ligature me and my dad did my dad was the head of lambeth music service we still have the original prototypes that were 3d printed by me
Is that whisper key actually functional? I see the button that's not connected to anything...
Did you have the shakes when you performed the Haydn at UEA? I did...
"A Wee Jock McPlock on principal Horn",,,, must have been an interesting first day at work that one! :-)
Ive got one
This is a wonderful interview. Thanks so much! I am a harp teacher and performance coach here in Canada and so many of the things Charlotte shared are EXACTLY what I tell my clients and students. I love the way she said to be KINDER to yourself. And to soothe yourself.
Am I right that there is no register key and no little finger keys at all? What's the range of the instrument? Can you play chromatically?
Shoes are always my favorite thing to play with for orchestra concerts, since I sit too! I've been lucky that I've also always been allowed some bling ^_^ I'm in love with all of these, they're so perfect!!
Omg mka looks great on camera. And this concept is hilarious. I'll try to watch some more later. Did u learn all this from sc? Lol Congratulations :-)
Love her choices, and yes, standing in any of those would have anyone near tears after a symphony performance lol!
