Jeeves and Wooster, in a nutshell...
A summary of the entire "Jeeves & Wooster" series in roughly 6 minutes.
-
P.G. Wodehouse's Jeeves (played by Stephen Fry) and Bertie Wooster (Hugh Laurie) have been lauded as one of the greatest comic double acts of all time. Set in the late 1920s-1930s, "Jeeves and Wooster" (1990-1993) follows the hilarious misadventures of Bertram Wilberforce Wooster - a young, affable English gentleman of the idle rich - and Jeeves - Bertie's omniscient and resourceful valet. Jeeves discreetly takes control of his "mentally negligible" employer's life, while Bertie Wooster finds himself pushed and reeled into countless imbroglios, fiascoes, and romantic entanglements led by his hapless friends and imperi...

Dude. I'm coming back to this video after having watched all episodes of the show but one to comment on how absolutely perfect it is in every way. This might be one of my all-time favorite RUclips videos. 🤣 The way that you used “Sing, Sing, Sing” in the background was BRILLIANT, especially considering that I had always thought it would be a good backing track for one of the scenes when reading the books. The timing of these clips’ compilation was just expertly done. I'm very much geeking out over here. 🤓😁😆
Same! I keep coming back to this. It's edited so well
@@Rainime Right?! 🤣🤩
Wodehouse would be cackling.
When Bertie says "giddy biscuit!" lmaoooooo
I love Wodehouse's writing, and I found this series great fun. But ultimately, whilst I think Hugh Laurie's Wooster is utterly superb, I'm not really happy with Stephen Fry's Jeeves. I feel that he makes the character seem far more unpleasant than Wodehouse intended. His Jeeves is not at all a nice person - he comes across as domineering, vindictive, conniving and supercilious. I'd agree that the dialogue is true to Wodehouse, but I don't think that Fry caught the required 'feudal spirit'. I was happier with Dennis Price's Jeeves, with Ian Carmichael as Wooster... though I haven't been able to see most of that version for a very long time. And I actually prefer Laurie as Wooster. He and Carmichael took rather different approaches - Carmichael emphasized enthusiasm and the 'what ho' spirit, which Laurie also caught, whilst adding a sort of sublime dottiness. I don't really wish to be negative about Stephen Fry, whose work I generally much admire; but I just can't feel that his Jeeves is Wodehouse's Jeeves - for me, at least (though I know that he too is a great admirer of Wodehouse's writing).
This really is ripping top hole stuff!
This is PERFECTION
Thee series was my introduction to not only J & W, but Wodehouse. As well as Fry and Laurie. Hilarious 🤣 And what a shock when a few years later I find out that Laurie played Dr. House, " Waitwaitwait... Bertie is House?!?" 😲🤯😂
Whos here in 2024? ❤❤❤
Perfection.
Jeeves should have been the basis for C-3P0, if only George Lucas had read more than one book
That would've been friggin' *_AMAZING._* You'd have the wise-cracking, smack-talking, indispensible war-hero mvp in R2-D2, & the prim & proper, smart-as-a-whip, sharp-as-a-tack, indispensable tech-guy/assistant in C-3PO.
One of the best shows ever made. Ever!
I miss about this time
This is really well created
This edit brings out the reality behind the characters. In reality "Bertram Wooster" was the figment of the imagination of one of Sir Roderick Glossop's patients in his asylum. Wodehouse was inspired by the story of an overworked accountant who after suffering a nervous breakdown fancied himself as being one of the idle rich from aristocratic stock. Jeeves was a manifestation of his subconscious which tried to steer him towards the more sensible path back to reality away from flights of fancy represented by moustaches and monogramed handkerchiefs. The Jeeves construct also worked to protect "Bertie" from the other manifestations of his subconscious which were constantly harrowing him with either prospects of responsibilities that he wasn't ready for or chaotic convoluted schemes which threaten to send the poor fellow even more into madness.
Jeeves was great in V for Vendetta.
I love this show! (the kid who says "fish face" grew up to be Meyer Lansky in Boardwalk Empire btw)
This American knows what she's gotta hunt down to watch now...
That is brilliant. I laughed all over again. So glad I discovered this hilarious show last month by accident. P.G.Wodehouse is a British national treasure. Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie are the perfect Jeeves and Wooster just like Basil Rathbone is the quintescential Sherlock.
3:07 "A thought has just occurred to me, sir." "This is no time for thought, Jeeves." Why is this edit absolutely cracking me up? XD XD
this is genuinely a thing of beauty. its an incredible edit. oh my god. amazing honestly . the effort, the skill, its perfect. Woo
I'm Ukrainian. I'm a teen. I've never heard of this. I find this through a fanfic in which this is shown as an example for a traumatized magical servant on how to act correctly. I am scared.
Nothing to be scared of. It's a perfectly amusing series.
Absolute perfection!
As an American, it is really weird seeing house Be so silly and nonsensical. 😅
Starring Hugh Laurie - as himself
Hm, Jeeves and Wooster were based upon a book? Enticing.
The best trailer ever!
A marvelous edit, tho, quite disappointed by the distinct lack of my favorite character, Red-haired Bingo.
Jeeves and Wooster would have been Bruce Wayne and Alfred if the Wayne family had taken the car home.
You can’t beat Fry and Laurie. The best in whatever they team up to do. Love them!
Yes, that about sums it up. I have the series on DVD, and I have many of the novels on Audible and Kindle. It’s the P.G. Wodehouse immersive experience.
“Approaching the perpendicular, Sir.” 😂
Brilliantly done! Loved Jeeves and Wooster ever since I watched it as a little kid with mom on dvd
🥰
Read the books. Hysterical!
This is perfect! 😂❤
Damn these guys are SOOOO YOUNG here ! I only know them from eh, half a century later… 😮
Fabulous!
Looks like they even did a one-up on the previous brilliant duo Randall and Klugman’s portrayal of Felix and Oscar.
Can't believe that this chap became Dr House. Surely not. 😂😂
Love Jeeves and Wooster. The show did the books proud and that time period is portrayed perfectly.
For years, I've had a personal theory that Jeeves is some form of eldritch manifestation of calamity. A demon come up from the bowels; or mysterious, ancient fey creature that normally manifests on cold, foggy night to waylay fool travelers that enter his forest. Eventually; he decides to make his way around humans and do good in the world, but sometimes the mischievous nature bubbles up and he just can't help himself. Adding a little excitement to the lives of the souls he keeps company with.
"record scratch" 🤣🤣🤣
The preferred pronunciation in all English speaking countries, including the United States, is /ˈvæleɪ/. If you say VAL-IT, you are saying it wrongly.
Citation needed, keeping in mind that "valet" the car-parker and "valet" the manservant are two different things.
They're still not over the 100 years war.
I've seen every episode many, many times and enjoyed it just as much each time.
Perfect compilation. Thank you!
Brilliant!
"Jeeves" doesn't even sound like a name anymore
They must have had the best time filming this. It's always fun watching actors who are friends in real life working together. They bounce off each other so well.
I'm going to have to find this and watch it. I've heard references about it over the years. First time I've seen anything from it.
Easy to find on RUclips. They are hilarious and oh so British.
One of the funniest books I have ever read. Had me literally cackling on a crowded peak hour bus. The humour doesn't come out in these clips, unfortunately. Wodehouse's wit is a slow but intense stream, not high speed.
