If you had the door out front a further 1/4” to expand the gap and then used one of those fibreglass rope gaskets that are used in fireplace doors that would make for a seal on the door that has variable flexibility on the gap.
Excellent knife vice Sturdy construction very well made

What would you change out or modify to increase the speed?
You would have to change to a full hydraulic system with pump, ram etc.
Overbuilt but cool
You're definitely right there, but it's just what I do I suppose.
Should of put the handle on the opposite side of the gas and put the gas valve upfront so you can look at the flame and adjust it
I send you my address and then you send me the clamp.. great video and great build man. I'll be checking my mailbox everyday😊
Plans?
I think it’s awesome how you recycle! I enjoy doing the same thing. I think part of the fun is to make what you have work and figuring out how it goes together. Like you did with the anchor bolt.
Yours is the best by far , going to make mine just like it !!! Thank you , awesome video
Subbed
Love this build! Im gonna copy a few of your ideas, haha! Well done!
How big of an air compressor do you need? Wondering what the air consumption is like. Thanks for the video!
I'm not actually sure, I only have a big screw compressor, but that hardly runs when I'm using it
This is great for someone on a budget, do you happen to have a list of the measurements you used? Thanks for the 3 great videos.
Thank you, sorry, no I don't have any measurements, more or less just made things fit as I built it.
Love it mate..well done
Thank you for sharing this idea! Finally a press in my budget. Do you use it often and how has it held up? Has it been practical or was it just a fun project?
I use it fairly regular, it's held up very well, still works the same.
@Knarsdale Forge Sounds like I've got some work to do! Thank you so much for the reply. Looking forward to more of your content.
Here is what I did might help you ruclips.net/video/9VotBhqSzc0/видео.html
Interesting design! I like it. Pre heating is the key to avoiding heat distortion. It makes those problems disappear.
Can you link the jack

Genius
I like the design of your press. making a cut list for the shop.
This is going to look awesome
This is awesome mate..did you end up coming up with something for the peddle? Would love to see it
Really love your engineering SIR ! I'm now beginning my second ribbon burner and I seen failure because that motar is affected by gravity if you're working it like a plaster job and cause cracking much like drywall a patching isn't equal to a solid inch of refractory motar. I don't see any reason to do heavier outside walls than 18 gauge steel unless the 12 gauge is equally priced of pretty much the same cost. Shur great vibrato shaking your machine is doing get I'm coming up with something that rocks all directions to get me a poor man system to settle my morar that motar must be in a solid brick that way you working it. Great job Sir I'm following your work best I can and expect to have a great forge. Please show your burner build also. I'm loving this build. 😍
Today I finished my and much like yours ( pretty much copy yours. Did check out several videos of others building much like yours. Thanks for the teaching Sir
That slot might let huge jungle knives and lawnmower blades Thanks I'm busy with this today and will be painting before dark.
Love the extension and the whole build. Except your logo I'll add mine and build this Thanks and very easy video. So many builders think I need to hear hammering and grinding but I don't like the noise also my family is sometimes present Thanks
Gary Houston BlackSmith built one much like this but your's tilting and good addition for the built I will do some figure I'll make one to handle lawnmower blades also thanks for the teaching Sir and I'll get back to knives and hopefully get your advice on knives also so I subscribed 👍 thumbs high!
I didn't forget about you Jon :)! I think the "twist" might be only outside on the billet- you went form 30mm to like 6 (or something?)?. But I'm very affraid that your press is too slow to make forge welding billet that long in one cycle. The temperature of the end of the billet when you squeezed it were way below the forge welding temperature. My suggestion is, when you make forge weld billet that long, the second welding cycle start from the end of the billet (where the holding bar is).
I do like your design and looks cool, however it can be improved, putting at stop pin trough the inner pipe to the aluminum would prevent the jaws from sliding off, dont have to hold them when taking the blade off or adjusting position of the vise. Thanks
удобная и полезная конструкция!
Great build..the only other feature could be a different base plate such as a half circle / protractor style base to make a swivel base to clock it at different angles besides the 90° to the work bench without having to remount it if needed from time to time..might never use the feature but it would be ready if needed..like a swivel base bench vise has..A full circle base would limit the tilt down feature so a half circle 180° swivel may be the best option..
Very nice work. We shared this video on our homemade tools forum this week 😎
Nice video mate 👍
I work building exhibitions in a museum. I work in various materials of varying shapes. I could see making different clamping plates to fit different shapes - round, square, tapered etc. Brilliant design, well crafted, a pleasure to watch. Thank you
Nice job again. We shared this video on our homemade tools forum this week 😎
molto inderestante liked good luck
Very nice off the cuff build, one little extra, I'm thinking an adjustable extension off to the side for a rod attached to a stone or file to shape/sharpen the edges of the blade, you have the long tongue to support the blade during the shaping/sharpening process.
Thanks Stephen, nice idea, I think I'll try that
I don’t make knives but you have solved a problem I’ve been having. Great job 👏
First class build!
Thanks Joe
Muito bom!! Trabalho top...
I will be taking this and building my own. (hope you don't mind.. :) )
I'd be honoured Neil, I hope I've give all the information you need.
Finished my vice, the only real change I made was the baseplate where I used some angle iron. I can then either clamp the vice to my bench or use my bench vice to hold this knife vise. I powdercoated it with Dulux natural bronze, all i need to do now is design a logo.. drive.google.com/file/d/10f0qxvho1-afmbwZvpELvqk1IT7rXmok/view?usp=sharing
@@neilwalker3204 I saw it on Facebook, great job and nice idea with the angle for the base
@@knarsdaleforge2787 I couldn't link your video in the main part of the post, FB rejected the post but I could as a response, go figure.. Thanks for the idea, now I need to make a knife! :)
Good 👍
NICE "
Thank you 👋
I think this vice is about the best i have seen until this day. I subscribed instantly for later vids on knifemaking.
I wouldn't change a thing! Simple, well made and very aesthetic! Great job Jon!
Thanks bud
That was a very good video. Thank you for taking the time to make this for all of us. I do like the build design!
Thank you Greg, no problem at all, I love projects like this
Looks like it’ll work very well!
