Is Genshin Impact Stagnating? | Exploring why the community is so divided.
The Genshin Impact community has felt pretty agitated lately. 😤 The game is going on four years old now, and things are starting to feel... formulaic.
We know what to expect from the game now. 3 months of archon quests, lantern rite, then some dry patches and side stories until we make it to the next region.
Do you think Genshin is starting to feel formulaic? Do you think there's enough variety? What type of content would you like to see?
Leave a comment and I'll respond!

    A bit damned that this was released right before Arlecchino's patch. And now we'll have 4.7, that looks like it's going to be one of the best patches ever, lore-wise. Btw, as a lore-focused and narrative-focused player, for me it looks like Genshin is only getting better and better. The writing is constantly raising the quality bar. It gets dull during the filler updates, but that's expected, peaks and valleys are the norm for every longer story, and I'm happy with it being that way, so it allows me to have the time to play other games. All in all, I don't have anything to complain about the game. There are places to improve, of course, but it's still the game that makes me laugh and cry, consistently. Few games can brag about that.

    As a story enjoyer, genshin sure is stagnant and boring. Every year it's just the the same ending where archon lose their gnosis in dramatic way and the fatui gonna get it. Oh, of course there's lorecrumbs on the 'real' main story but that's it. I stopped playing for more than a year now and only following the story mostly from fb and yt. During those times I've played other gacha games that not only has better writing than genshin's unskippable bloat up dialogue but also go all out even on their first year. At this point I believe that dev is just milking that's why so many filler. Even if there's some good quest they're mostly just standalone story that has no connection to the main plot. Even though I don't care much about combat, it does unmotivate me to pull new characters. No new character means no grinding, new domain is useless, no rush to explore new area, and no need to play the annoying mini game for primos. It's a valid reason as to why some people feels the game is so stagnant. That's what happened when game's content is revolved around new character which not everyone gonna pull.

    I think the worst part of FOMO is the limited timed events. You are forced to keep playing to not miss weapons, crowns and gadgets that will never come back. As opposed to just missing primogems where if you comeback after a break you will eventually be able to pull for missed out characters after playing at your own pace. That is why there is a large dissatisfaction in the community. There are a lot of players “forced” to play rather than enjoy the game at their own pace.

    • @eastonair
      @eastonair День назад

      Yeah agree. And the time windows for limited events are pretty small, 2 weeks at most. Hope you don't go on vacation! Haven't seen many people talk about it but Star Rail's (mostly) patch-long events are pretty nice for taking things at your own pace.

    I love the game so much but as a busy person, being forced to click through 30 minutes of dialogue im barely interested in when I want to play ruins the experience as someone who loves genshin just for combat and exploration. The main story I also love, but the length of the mini side quests that are unskippable with a slow text speed is killing me

    Oddly enough, my favorite 3 things about Genshin are the characters, exploration (really the collection aspect), and Archon quests... and strongly dislike the combat (stunlock my beloathed) I'm still very dissatisfied with the game. My first thought when hearing the hardcore/casual split and having the feeling of being forced to do unwanted content being put into words is like... A currency/points system where following one path is enough to get the rewards. So the reward pool would be the same, but the path could be chosen to fit that players preference, so doing the gameplay you hate isn't necessary. I would much rather do something like... farm serenitea pot stuff (and i hate serenitea pot grinding) than, say, fight thru the abyss yet again despite loathing being forced into Genshin's combat.

    Things only got not interesting when players only see the spec Min-Maxing as the only judgement , for most players , real human being who only had limited time everyday to just relax and do some gaming , people had to realize not everyone play it from day 1 , and most are not hardcore combat gamers who had all the characters and resource to max them either .. combat is only not challenging for those who had all but not for the majority

    Actually, I kinda agree at the "characters are content" thing. This is a pretty specific scenario but I didn't pull for any character during Fontaine and it made me realize that all there is in the open world was useless to me. No need to pick up stuff, or to fight bosses, there are a lot of domains I have never played because I don't need to farm them. Even opening chests it's not that good as I don't really want to pull for characters anymore (and also you need to open like 80 chests for one pull lol). When you see it like that, if you have a lot of characters, then you need lots of resources, bosses and common enemies to defeat, domains to farm and stuff to pick up. But if you don't have a new character, then almost everything in the openworld is useless to you

    I believe the problem with the characters comes only in part with the kit. The major part of the downfall/disappointment to me, comes from these newer characters being improperly introduced (if they get introduced at all) or are severely underdeveloped story-wise. Gaming, for example. He kinda came out of nowhere. He was not introduced in previous content, exclusively showing up for the 2024 Lantern Rite, and it seems as though his biggest problems were resolved in one event story quest, so there's nothing left to him. Meanwhile Xiao, who's the poster-boy for Lantern Rite, has been receiving constant character development in and out of said yearly event over the course of Genshin's lifetime. It's a ridiculous difference.

I got Wrio on release cos he looked cool, didn't get goor artifacts again, had no reason to play him when ayaka was 4 times better. At the end what's the point, you get characters you can't use and that they'll not compare to your old characters. The best piece of content was maps for me, but it was unrewarding do to a ultra hard puzzle for like 5 primos, like, what's the fucking point. At the end just quit genshin and played FFVII Rebirth, no regrets.

    Love this video! Pointed out and clarified why sometimes the game feels a little repetitive. Appreciate that. The combat has been kinda iffy, it feels difficult early on, but too easy at the later stages. Although hoyo will make the abyss have different enemies, in the end you’re in a circular room fighting some enemies. I have heard about the new permanent game mode but I find it hard to be excited for it. Just have my own reservations about it, as well as the worry that it’ll feel similar to the abyss. To be fair, the first time I 36*d abyss was quite a moment, but the ones after just felt less and less exciting. In terms of production costs, with the help of your video I’ve come to realize that a LOT of their budget goes into making the new regions to explore, and although I’m not much of an explorer, being lost in the world of Genshin felt quite amazing. Anyways great analysis!

    LMFAO my guy, how on earth can you claim Genshin combat system is anything "unique" when elemental combinations in games exists long before genshin? LIterally Warframe also has elemental mixing for increased damage and utility but go off about how it's super unique. That is not to mention that the stupid elemental reaction and cookie cutter kit of the MAJORITY of characters is what holding the combat back and not the conventional light/heavy and dodge roll/parry like you said. It's precisely because of the elemental system that characters kits all boils down to how well they can exploit the elemental system and not about that character. So why did Genshin designed their combat around this stupid system? Why can't a single character be a fully functional independent unit? Because of money of course lmfao, they purposefully made the game that way so if you want to be competent or god forbid decent at the game you HAVE to roll for synergistic characters, a full fledge team need 4 characters and that is at least 4 huge reason for you to roll, and once you start to roll you will want to roll more because that's how gambling works. The more you play Genshin the more you realize how shallow the game is combat wise, i have never played any action game that bores you with the combat as much as this one is, Genshin combat is not about feeling satisfy with cool and creative combos, it's about number crunching on how well a team can exploit a certain elemental reaction and spam that tactic repeatedly.

      @nvrmltice 6 дней назад

      Honestly you are right. Back when TotK was released I was a bit afraid I would miss Genshin's mechanics but lol no. Fighting a group of bokoblins in Zelda feels much better than fighting mobs in genshin. I need to at least pay attention to when to dodge, shield or maybe parry, or even in more braindead action games like Senran Kagura you can't just keep attacking without receiving damage as you need to dodge or parry certain attacks, while in genshin if you have a decent shield you are immortal and you can just ignore whatever the enemies are doing and keep attacking. Plus there's no balance in the difficulty of combat. In the open world they die of two hits but in the abyss they just never die, none of the current options are too fun

    • @kylenguyen9379
      @kylenguyen9379 6 дней назад

      @@nvrmlticeThat is because they don't care about the combat, they only care about designing characters that appeals to weebs for profit, so basically all style and no substance. Another reason is the balancing, almost all difficulty in Genshin comes from stats, if something isn't hard enough they just pump the damage/health of it up and maybe drop multiple copies of it in and call it a day, i still fucking remember the abyss stage where they casually dropped 3 puppet samurais in and call it a day. All i did was just shield their stupid combo and spam my rotation to kill them, they fail to realize that the more unfair and unfun they balance the combat, the more players will find ways to interact less with systems in it.

    Well made video. Love the RLM references. My favorite gacha is Nikke and sometimes I believe the viewpoint of "my favorite gacha character cannot meaningfully change/die" is what really drags down the otherwise great story of that game. In the most shocking, brutal and game-changing story line a beloved villain character does a 180 on her otherwise antagonistic personality and is promptly and poignantly killed off in a brutal sacrifice as her head blows up. In a storyline with horrifying scenes like this one, it still stood out and made me really get invested in the story. But that character is an SSR. And getting premium costumes. And appears in events. So to avoid anyone being upset, 5 minutes after her death, the story handwaves her head exploding and proudly claims that not only is she fine, nothing bad or consequential happened to her or any other character. That alone was enough to make me disinterested in the story for months and I won't ever have the sort of emotional investment in that game again. I don't blame people who get upset if the waifu they pulled for dies, I blame the developers for their cowardice, but I am not stupid enough to think that Nikke's inability to kill off anyone in an otherwise tense and dramatic story is in no way because of the whims of such fans.

    One of the main issues with Genshin is that it feels empty, despite being so big. None of the main characters are in the Overworld. You never run into Yoimiya at her house. You don't see Raiden Shogun in her palace. You don't see Ninnguang in her Jade Chamber. You don't see Keqing anywhere in Liyue. You don't see Jean in her office. You don't see Lisa in the library. There's barely any emphasis on characters at all. Like, they have their time in the spotlight, sure, but they disappear after the fact. Almost like they were all just a dream.

    Genshin needs an endgame. Characters are a means to an end, theres no point in constantly releasing new characters if there is nothing to use them for. That combined with how frustrating it is to fully gear up a character is the reason why I switched over to FF14, which has just as large of a world, endgame content, no gatcha and a massive in game community.

    This type of drama only exists when you are paying attention to it or fabricating it in this case. People grow cold on games all the time and you could hardly claim to represent or have insight on the community while being a drama creator; I think people get too caught up on trying to stay "caught up" when the game is never leaving you behind. Every game will feel better when people stop viewing it as a chore/job, and instead play it when they feel like it, after they've gotten a real job and realize the genshin treadmill only exists if you let it. A level 80 keqing will still clear every domain even if you take a break for a year.

    I'm playing since release, currently taking a break as usual after the x.3 story climax. I care about character designs and story most of the time, exploration I usually just rush. Not sure if the endgame crowd is that important since they seem to be just loud, but still a minority - iirc it was around 90% or more of players not even touching Abyss at all. But god does it feel like the story is stagnating. I mean, lore things happen, sure. The characters get their stories. Furina was amazing, emotional, melancholic, I loved it. But... nothing really... "happens"? Like, we know at this point that no one will ever die, that there are almost no stakes, we know the formula of Fatui getting the gnosis and the Archon having some obscure drama going on and we help out and move on. That is fine, but hoyo can't disguise this at all. It started with old leaks where people thought that Childe and Lisa might die because of dialogues and profile text, but nothing ever happened with them. Hoyo just does that anime/light novel thing where a character has a very sad problem that makes us feel bad about them (Childe doing it for his family, Lisa probably dying in the next few years) but it never is brought up again. That feels exhausting and annoying. In some character quests I just sit there, sigh and wait for it to be over, like with Arlecchino - I didn't care much about her and you just know she'll have a sadge past, some new mini conflict comes up for her story, I should feel emotions or something and we fight and she goes away. That being said, I'm excited to see Natlan's conflict. It IS fun being a "Traveler" who just observes the world, which is why I don't need dramatic stories involving us. But man am I excited for Snezhnaya's story and finally seeing the Archon there, and what they're going to do with Khaenr'iah and Celestia. You can clearly see that they improved a lot in their cinematography with the visual novel scenes, cameras and effects, so maybe in 2 years we'll see a more emotional road to the climax of this story.

    4:00 I didnt get Chiori or Nuvilette or Wriosthley. So... where is my content? New characters being content is half true. Yes they are a new addition to the game and offer new gameplay, dialouges, etc. But they shouldnt be viewed as content because if you don't get them through bad rng or just cant afford them, a new patch offers you everything (minus the character) as content. So new characters arent new content but more like an "optional cherry on top" for the other content delivered in a patch. Now if that content is bad or lacking, that is a problem. Because that is guaranteed. And if players get guaranteed disappointment, then youre doing something wrong as a company.

    My guess is that the Pyro Archon will have an HP draining mechanic for herself in exchange for power (likely both in dmg and supportive capabilities). Reason I think so is because the Archons also have to work together in a team on some level, and that kind of a kit goes perfectly with Furina and maybe Neuvillette. I don't think that predictability has to be a problem, but clearly Genshin can't manage it

    The dehya patch was devastating for my motivation to keep playing the game. Every character I like ends up being awful or require a lot of work to build up due to their niches like Itto and characters I don’t give 2 shits for end up being the most useful or strong like that plank of wood kazuha and all the wank he’s given by the story and memers.
