      @@That_one_guy8764 I agree. I liked their new song a lot. Though not sure how I feel about them playing older songs Chester sang. Either way, you’re absolutely right. They clearly got someone very different from Chester which seems like they’re not trying to copy or replace him. They’re just moving on to a new era and we’ll see in time how we like it. Personally I’m hopeful for their future as a band. Though I found out their drummer left and their guitarist will be involved in the studio but not tour with them live.

      Hey! Apologies for the late reply. Can I ask which time in the video you saw the extra note? I can double check. Great video.. In your opinion, these 90s Studio with ebony fingerboard practically have the same sound and timbres as the custom Les Paul but without the finish and body not as thick as the custom ones!? .. Generally the standard and custom ones have a slightly thicker body than the Studio ones but they weigh almost the same or the same..

    • @rocktorrocks
      @rocktorrocks 2 месяца назад

      Thanks so much! Glad you liked the video. Yup! Since the Les Paul studio has the 498T/490R pickups which are the very same pickups in current Les Paul Customs I feel they are tonally similar. The ebony fretboard further adds to the Les Paul Custom feel and aesthetics. Though there are still differences like the body being slightly thinner I feel like they’re quite similar. In terms of woods, rumor on forums I’ve read mentioned the early 90s models had maple necks much like the 70s Norlin Les Paul Customs too though this isn’t something I’ve officially seen confirmed.

    Dude... this old Epiphone is so far from what Epiphone is offering now...

    • @rocktorrocks
      @rocktorrocks 2 месяца назад

      Not really. Most of the details and specs I went over apply to all the recent models just the same and the few differences (e.g. CTS pots on current Epiphones & IBG CS models having one piece necks & Gibson pickups) I made a point to mention. If you noticed any incorrect specs or something I got wrong in the video certainly let me know. I also intentionally kept many of the comparisons more generalized since specs vary not just by year but also by model. This way what I went over should apply to most Epiphones over multiple years.

    I actually just did this today lol. Brought a 1979 Les Paul Custom and plan to sell my 2021 Reissue 57 to offset the cost. The biggest thing I dont think people realize is that the Norlin era really is the iconic Les Paul Custom most people think when they think Les Paul. Its everywhere in Hard Rock and Metal. John Sykes, Adam Jones, Alex Lifeson, Pete Townsend, Dean DeLeo, Al Di Meola, Jimmy Page, Scott Gorham, Steve Clark, Lindsey Buckingham, Ace Frehley, etc. IMO the 70s LP Customs had the best overall necks. I love chunky necks, but i doubt most of the above players, especially shredders, would have played a Les Paul if it was a 50s because the necks are giant and the upper fret access sucks. Thats not even considering the different pickup ring height and frets. I feel like most of the people dogging 70s LPs havent actually tried them and are just parrotting the historic and period correct LP stuff.

    • @rocktorrocks
      @rocktorrocks 3 месяца назад

      Well said! I couldn’t agree more! I feel like the Norlins got an unnecessarily bad rep just because they were so different from their 50s predecessors. Yet, as you said so many legendary artists rocked Norlin Les Paul Customs and they are amazing for hard rock. I’ll add Randy Rhoades and Mick Mars to the list as well. I can’t name many iconic 50s Les Paul Custom players but I feel like there are so many famous musicians who rocked a 70s Les Paul Custom. You’re right these are the iconic Les Paul Customs. As an old school hard rock and metal aficionado, the 70s Les Paul Custom is my guitar of choice. I’ve got a nice collection and like all my guitars but if I could only keep one it would be my Norlin. It just has the right sound and feel for the genres I like. Congrats on your 1979 and happy new guitar day! Hope it serves you well and rocks hard. 🤘

      Thanks so much! Glad you like it! It’s quickly become one of my favorite guitars to play. I haven’t measured to confirm but the frets seem similar on both my 58 and triburst in terms of size. However the overall set up of the 58 feels a little better in my hands. I got it used so the prior owner might have given it a better set up than my triburst has, but the action on the 58 is nice and low and the frets nicely polished. It just feels more premium as a result I think. What surprised me most is despite the 58 having a thicker neck and thicker 10 gauge strings which I’m usually not a fan of (I prefer slimmer necks & 9 gauge) the 58 still feels very easy to play. Overall I think with custom shop there’s better odds of getting a good guitar but Phillip McKnight of Knowyourgear youtube channel ordered a custom shop les paul and it had issues…so I don’t think even custom shop guarantees something great, which is messed up considering the prices they go for new. I got my 58 used at a good price (it’s a 2016 model) and I was able to try it out before buying so I felt more comfortable taking the leap and getting it. I’d still say if you can try before buying or order from a place that has good return policy, that would still be worth it. Hope that helps a little!

    also if you wanna sound better or feel better in general that amp is compressing your sound probably alot more than you notice if you play anything besides more than 5 gain onna 20w amp, or that might even be the 0.5w or 10w ones, but EPIPHONE STOPPED BEING GOOD PAST 2005-2008

      Thanks for watching! And appreciate the advice! I think part of it may be that the phone camera didn’t capture the in room amp sound well as it sounds pretty good in person to me but not sure the phone camera captured that properly. My THU amp sim & digital micro mustang headphone amp I can directly record in with usually sound better on videos I think.
