Robert Dale Williams - Kitschmeister - The Highest Quality Canvas for Oil Painters
Interesting... I usually divide mine into thirds, then transfer - it's always a bit off, but I kinda enjoy the correcting all through the process. atb...Sinco
when i saw Odd's paintings many years ago, I was surprised and a little taken aback. he reminded me of a guy I went to school with Don Dunaway. I wonder whatever happened to him. I remember that he was a talented guy who was more interested in Sgt. Pepper Lonely Hearts Club Band than painting. anyway, yes I'm that old. i watched a few of your vids today. what do I think? i think you are missing the imaginative mind-side of your painting experience. Most of Odd's work has a very sensitive design and composition. you seem to paint an arm, then paint a figure, then paint a background. I suggest it's all part of the same composition/work. Odd's work also has a certain germanic feel. the clothing, the hats, the implements. I think you have a lot talent but consider loosening up a bit. How about if Odd and Sargent/Sorolla had a baby. Bravado brushwork, expressive marks with a Bruegal feel. anyway, that's my 2 cents. keep painting.
I feel you man. My job has also become destructive to my crativity as it becomes more and more demanding. I haven't been as brave as you up to this point though, and I'm still allowing it to happen.
I think it's something that happens more often than it has been said over the years, its such a taxing, stressful place to be and I completely sympathize with creative people who feel stifled by increasing demands on the job. Wishing you well, man, I hope a solution presents itself for you soon and you're able to feel more free...

Thank you!

Is the calcium carbonate you use considered fine or medium ground?
Since it can also be used in foods, I believe it is a fine ground, but I'm not sure. It is: "Duda Energy FGcc5f Food Grade 97+% Calcium Carbonate", available on Amazon.
@@RDWstudio Thank you very much. I am in the UK but that sounds very similar. I haven't been able to find out what the other 2.7% (in my case) is and was wondering if that would present a problem so I appreciate you detailed reply. Thank you for the videos.

Thank you!
Impeccable work, as ever!
Thank you so much, Kyle!
🔥
Thank you!
Hello! Thanks a lot for the vid. My question is, can you pls make a vid how the oil paint is working in the process of painting on such surface? How much oil it absorbs?
Thank you for the comment and the question, please see my latest series of Painting Studio Journals to see how this heavy Belgian linen surface takes oil paint! 😃
sorry "stretching canvas," forgive my spelling, yet mind the instructions, my father taught me this .....................
Hey Robert, thank you for your insights. Love your ideas and sketches, looks deep. Now as for stetting canvas, do not put your staples in sideways, put the staple in the same way as the bar goes, horizontal, not vertical, Ok, Think you will find a MUCH BETTER FIT AND STRETCH.
@@lisaoloughlin6476 hi Lisa, thank you for checking out the video, I’ve seen (and used) staples in both directions over the years and my preference has been to insert them vertically, you’re putting two pins at each point of the bar and it feels more stable overall.
🎉
This is so insightful. Thank you for sharing this life changing experience.
Thank you very much for sharing this inspiring journey with us. Love and respect from India.
Can I use hardware boiled linseed oil instead of refined linseed oil?
It should work… but don’t forget to add some alkyd or drier as well.
Amazing as always
Thank you so much 🙏🏼
What palette do you work with?
For “Wrath of the Tyrant”, I limited my palette to titanium white, flesh ochre, yellow ochre, and blue black. Currently, my palette is titanium white, Chinese vermilion, Old Holland Yellow Brown, and Mars black.
Stunning
Thank you
Is this ground coarse, or why do you use it? Interesting.
The ground creates a strong, smooth surface that maintains the texture of the canvas, and it’s pleasant to work on.
@@RDWstudio Right, good to know, thanks!
Viewing these after looking at the Nerdrum's teaches you a great deal about Nerdrum!
Does that apply also on a primed canvas? Thank you in advance!
Yes, I should note that the Kitschmeister canvas is sized and able to take the ground mixture without rotting out. I’d recommend always priming a canvas before applying this ground.
Love your work
Thank you very much!
Everything taught to you by college professors about creating art or music is defined by the fact that they cannot create anything of value and therefore have resorted to teaching at a university where credentials on paper matter more than talent. Of course they don't want you to emulate the old masters, because if you do, you will quickly discover that your professors have no useful knowledge or talent.
A truth to be sure, and a topic worthy of another video/ discussion all together-!
Thanks for sharing your experience, very inspiring !
Thank you! It was inspiring to revisit my stays there as I gathered notes and images for the video.
Great, thank you for your video very much. May I ask, does any kinds of food grade of calcium carbonate can make canvas ground? I appreciate. ❤
I only have experience with the one depicted in this video, so I’d encourage you to research any others you’re interested in trying before making a mixture. Thanks for checking out the video!
@@RDWstudiothank you for your reply.
@@RDWstudioyes I also wondering how fine it shall be and where did you buy?
@@Onlylove994 On Amazon, the product is called: "Duda Energy FGcc5f Food Grade 97+% Calcium Carbonate"
So lovely 😍🌹 beautiful

Very Nice to see this. I really like Horizon's End.
Thank you so much!
Hauntingly beautiful
Thank you
Will this work on a wood panel that is sized with rabbit skin glue?
It should is just a ground … but it doesn’t if you have acrilic or other artificial sizing
do you only put one layer of the chalk ground on the canvas?
Apply two layers... also, not pictured in the video, I recommend adding a little bit of Liquin/ dryer medium, otherwise it takes quite awhile for the ground to dry.
