EBIKE FLORIDA RAIL TRAILS
США
Добавлен 4 окт 2021
As a Southwest Florida native and avid road cyclist, I discovered the wonders of rail trails in 2020. These historic trail lines converted into cycling and running destinations are gaining popularity nationwide, and Florida has no shortage of them. Personally, I prefer asphalt trails and have made it my mission to showcase these hidden gems to others through my website and channel. To make the most out of these day trips, I upgraded to a class 3 Specialized e-bike in 2021. The assist-only design allows me to cover more ground in less time, without sacrificing the enjoyment of the ride. As a 50-year-old geek, I'm not much of a camper, so I plan to stick to single-day trips with the occasional overnight stay in a hotel. Join me on my journey starting from my home base in West Villages, Sarasota County, on the beautiful Gulf Coast of Florida. Don't forget to subscribe for more e-bike and rail trail adventures!

General James A. Van Fleet State Trail is part of the Rails to Trails system, converting abandoned railroads into usable trails. This trail is like going back in time. There has been no new development ever within the protected park. This is a trail I was p...

Is the speed limit on the trail strictly enforced?
oh wow i was wondering if the trail would be ridable, looks like its not too bad. thanks.
Looking forward to riding this trail eventually. Some may find the trail "boring" because it's almost a straight line line through forest but it's ideal for me as it has hardly any crossings to speak of, plus it runs roughly north to south so I imagine it stays shaded for hours into the morning.
I did look at a map but how is the parking at the trail head? Coming up from Cape Coral, how great would it be if it connected all the way to Lee County. Thanks for showing the trails.
Cool video just an observation: the bridges @1:11:35 and 1:15:25 are not "separated from the roadway by a barrier" they are totally independent bridges dedicated to the trail, closest road would be US41 to the south
The sectioned off area at the center of the bridge crossover is for pedestrians ... bikes are supposed to use outside lanes
I always carry two tubes and a couple of co2 cartridges with me. They fit nicely under my seat. I love that trail.
Appreciate you taking the time to show the ride and add all the additional details. Really like the miles and map. Will be there next week.

Too many street crossings & the video feels like it's had too much caffeine! :) . . . just sayin'! Thanks for the racy ride!
I live right across 434 from the trail and I love it. I usually ride it every weekend.

Beautiful trail and very secure
When you start traveling, you need to hit the Greenbrier River Trail in West Virginia. And I will just leave it at that. Nice trip by the way and good job.
how many miles is that from end to end...looks pretty nice trail....i just moved from southern California and want to find some nice trails to visit
I'm enjoying Wellen Park now lol, it's literally the perfect "hidden gem" right now because it's still in development and it's not crowded, That will change soon though LOL
Nice job, now I have to travel all the way to Florida. Lol good trail.
I live on this trail and it’s wonderful. Busy during the weekend though with lots of walkers and riders. Watch those crosses.. lots of cars blow them all the time. Don’t assume they will stop at the stop signs. Great footage.
The word EBike sometimes makes people assume I am riding faster than I should. I ride a class 3 which means I dont have a throttle. Assist only. The mph is not on the video. However, the video is done in real time. So here is the math. If you rode a bicycle 19 miles in 1 hour and 21 minutes, the average speed in miles per hour would be: Average speed = Total distance / Total time First, let's convert 1 hour and 21 minutes into hours. There are 60 minutes in an hour, so 21 minutes is 21/60 = 0.35 hours. Therefore, the total time is 1.35 hours. Now, we can calculate the average speed: Average speed = 19 miles / 1.35 hours Average speed = 14.07 miles per hour (rounded to two decimal places) So, the average speed for your bicycle ride would be approximately 14.07 miles per hour. Thanks!
Great video, thanks. I see larger tires are called for on the white gravel.
Don’t believe the advertised weight. I have the same bike, 56cm size with 30mm road tires and it weighs 29 lbs 14 ozs with Speedplay pedals. No way this bike weighs 26-8
Great video, and perfect timing. Trying to get a small group ride for Next Saturday. Wasn't sure where to start. . So from Payne Park it looks like almost three miles to reach the Legacy Trail, its that right? Also, wasn't sure of the exact route you took, couldn't see many road signs. Can you give me a little more detail on the best route to get to the Trail?
I added 34 different chapters and time stamps for all the locations. From Payne park its pobbably 50 yards. It starts right there. Use the video and you can see the milage on the bottom left. Thank you for subscribing! Please pass it along!
Thanks, I'm Just North/East of Sarasota, I'll be checking this out. Not many people there. What day of the week was this?
Thursday
Thanks! I’ve got to go find that one!
Glad you enjoyed it. The whole Wellen Park area has bike lanes and trails from end to end. Great place to ride! It's my home and I ride it all the time.
That's a nice trail. I need to keep this in mind when visiting Austin Texas 👍
Thomas you will love Austin. It is incredibly cyclist friendly all over the area. Highly recommend!!
@@EbikeFloridaRailTrails I'm gonna be 4 days in San Antonio,TX on my monthlong Amtrak and Bike traveling end of April, and Austin is right next to San Antonio, but not sure if I could make it to Austin at this time but at some point would like to visit it for sure.
@@FollowThomas Definetly try. Love your channel Thomas
@@EbikeFloridaRailTrails thank you 😊
Why does the whole video has to be on high speed? Like fast forwarding. Can’t appreciate the scenery. It’s annoying. Sorry.
He rode 36 miles. If he averaged 15 mph, playing the video at regular speed would be 2.5 hours. I suspect most people wouldn't watch the entire video if it was that long. Speeding it up gives the viewer the opportunity to see the entire trail.
Thanks for the ride footage! This trail is on my list now.
Wish it was gravel
Are you keeping list of the trails you rode already? I have pretty much the goal to ride all the trails in Florida. Last three years I rode 10K miles almost all in Florida. If that would be only trail miles than it would probably cover them all. 👍
Too many street crossings for my taste ...
I would advise users of this trail to be familiar with the “Cycle Way” exit off the trail in Venice. It is located at the Circus Bridge. There is a small path that takes the rider around the base/side of the bridge. From there you will need to turn onto the Circus Bridge if you wish to ride into Venice along the bike lane on Tamiami Rd. Heading south from Sarasota, the exit path will be on the left before you go underneath the bridge. Happy riding!
I will have to check this one out soon, thanks.
Same bike, same color, and since I normally only use the eco mode, I can get up to 120 miles. I sold the optional extended battery pack, since I could not see a need for it either. 🚴
Slowwwwwww down! Make me dizzy! I can’t watch it! People don’t like video too fast. They like take a times watch normally videos. I keep looking another channel.
How many miles total ?
The new trail portion is about 4 miles. Then it connects to neighborhood streets. I haven't gone south any more so far from when I shot this but going north to Venice you would follow Boarder Rd until the end. It will cross over I75 and go through nokomis. The rd will change names a couple of times. It will dead end into a park with access to the Legacy Trail. There is a bike lane on Boarder but the neighbohoods it cuts through do not. Thanks!
Great video! Thanks for sharing -planning a New Years trip down.
Most people would carry what they need to fix a flat, no a big deal
I'm worthless with tools. Not for lack of trying. It's embarassing but true. Went to tubless.
I bought the same bike in aluminum...less than half the price and I do not feel any vibration in my spine. I have a carbon mountain bike with 3000 watts and I don't feel vibration in that bike either. I don't like using the app because on long downhills I like to turn the motor off. So if you have hills and use this technique you can ride for over 100 miles easy
Awesome trail summary. Moving to north Fort Myers soon. See you.
Thank you this video. I could perhaps make one suggestion please, for future videos could you place your captions at the bottom or even perhaps the top of the frame so as not to obscure the beautiful view of the trail. Thank you
Will there be a speed limit on this trail? Other trails have 15 mph limits but your speed on the video is 20 mph. Even though there were no other riders for this ride, it is an unsafe practice.
Thank you!
bonjour pouvez vous en français? merci @zayjef1949
Thanks for sharing Eric. Looks great. Can’t wait to check it out. :)
What are the pedals you are using. Like them!!
Great job its definitely a fantastic trail with many side trips to enjoy all kinds of activities, nature and great places to eat
Nice video, trail is near laurel rd. in Venice when you get on trail what direction do you head for get on North Port?
I suggest you give more information as you ride. The date and time your filming, the type of camera your using, etc. Additionally, more information about the trail, total length, speed limits, trail rules and etiquette for each trail which do differ from trail to trail. Best places to park and/or stop. Also, list trail groups associated such as, for example: Friends of the Legacy Trail, whereby people can go to learn more information, join and donate money too.
Nice video. Thank you for sharing. Is there parking on Calera Street where the Trail starts?
Did not see any. Some grass area along the road.
There's parking. Not paved yet but lots of cars when I went.
@@EbikeFloridaRailTrails OK, thank you.
@@WanderingWales5 Good to know. Thank you!
Boring trail. I don’t think there is one curve between Mabel and Polk City. Green Swamp is impressive.
Good for you, pass the word. Keep this trail secluded.
@@johnbmudd I don’t have to John. Sadly , it gets very little use.
Is the route marked going from the new Northport Trail over to the legacy connection
Not sure. I know its marked coming from the Sarasota/VEnice trail to Deer Prairie creek where it starts but don't know on the North Port. It's likley it is.
