Rob Schoelkopf – Erasure detection and error correction in a microwave dual-rail encoding

I will present recent experimental results on bosonic qubits in superconducting circuits. The dual-rail encoding with microwave cavities offers a remarkable hierarchy of error rates and is first-order robust to errors in all operations, where decoherence in both cavity and qubit can be efficiently detected and treated as erasures. This approach enables the improvement of state preparation, measurement, and gates over two orders of magnitude compared to previous bosonic logical qubits.
