The palatial country house of the late media mogul William Randolph Hearst lies 1600 feet above the Pacific Ocean on California's Central Coast. Originally built by architect Julia Morgan as a family retreat, it quickly became a playground of the rich and famous during its heyday in the 1920s and 1930s. Hearst built the nation's largest media empire, including more than two dozen newspapers in major cities nationwide, magazines, wire and photo services, newsreels, radio stations and film production. His ventures in business and movies brought him in close contact with movie stars and luminaries of their time. Hearst Castle provided the perfect west coast venue to bring these groups together for socializing, rest, and relaxation.
Madonna and Child with Two Angels - The Art at the Castle
This roughly 500-year-old, 16th century painting is an exceptional example of Mr. Hearst art collection. The painting is displayed in the sitting room of Casa del Mar. It can be seen on the Cottages' and Kitchens tour.

You are correct in your observation, most of the wine is no longer drinkable. However the bottles that are upright are empty. They were consumed by the Hearst Family or Corporation years ago. They are there to show what was originally in the wine cellar. Thank you for watching our RUclips Channel.

Didn’t get to see movie theater on tour and took every tour. Years ago.
There may have been some restoration going on in the theater at the time you were here. The Grand Rooms tour does see a short home movie in the theater now. Sorry you didn't get to see it when you were here. Hope you come back and visit us again.
Great video about a truly interesting person. So wonderful to hear how he forged a path for Asians in Hollywood despite terrible discrimination. Also heartening were his wartime efforts to help others in need. Would love to hear more about Sessue Hayakawa.

This was interesting but I was disappointed that I didn't hear any details of her visits to Hearst Castle during the twenties or thirties I was hoping to hear more about that. How many times did she visit the home of William Randolph Hearst?
🤷♂️🎵🔥🤷♀️ How do we know if any of this is true? Specially presented by the state?😂 Question everything, friends? Imagine, he doesn't even mention she was a 19-year-old runaway from the private school her parents had sent her to... He met her in NY and fell madly in love with her. Randy was 53 years old and married... He chased her all over and had her in the newspaper at all times... Besides launching her to the fame she was known for in those days, he built her a place in Santa Monica. During the opulent 1920s, Randy( as my grandma called him) developed a 5-acre oceanfront site for Marion Davies, which eventually became the location of the Annenberg Community Beach House. The estate included a grand mansion with more than 100 rooms and a magnificent marble swimming pool.
Such a marvellous collection of art and craftwork. Still, I can't help sensing the whiff of the vulgar and crass as I look around.

I went to visit Hearst Castle this weekend, all decorated for Christmas. It was wonderful. By watching different videos I learn new details of what life was like at HC in those days.😮 Merry Christmas to all.

Charlie was a awesome man.
In the 80's they actually mentioned that on his camping trips to the property he had entertainmen... a cowboy group..Leonard Sly and his group...later..Roy Rogers and the Sons of the Pioneers.
