The game will stay like this until the rewrite is done. This is not something we can control, as the developer Pasha does not want to change the main game and in fact focus on rewrite. (You may ask who coded this og lava biome back? It was Ahmetcan but he does not want to change it further. He is not obliged to work either.) This wait will be worth it as we have many surprises for y'all in the rewrite release. (colossals will be coded after rewrite is done and pushed live).

You're not alone. I started playing Starve early in the pandemic. While I started doing quests, including lava quests, within a few months, it took almost a year before I actually crafted a helmet and sword in the same playthrough. Anyway, nice job! The baby dragon surprised me; when you first crafted a saddle, I thought for sure you would tame a baby mammoth to kill the lava dragon. Since you went to the desert anyway, maybe you can go for bag quests in future runs.

I want to attempt dragon gear. I can easily kill the dragon. Got any tips for preparing for the ame quest?
I'd say that for most quests, the key is learning to speedrun the forest. If you can get a bag/book/chapka/bottle in a day or 2 days consistently, most quests should be easy. Such a strategy has a lot of small details that are difficult to pinpoint are best learned from experience, but here are some basic tips: - As soon as you spawn go to the nearest tree and get enough wood for a pickaxe. In the next couple of minutes, have a stone pickaxe, sword, and machete. - Whenever possible, find groups of animals, so you can kill several in a short timespan. - As soon as you have 9 wolf fur and 10 string, make a book, then immediately use that book to craft a bag. - To kill the rabbit quickly, chase it into an object so it bounces back to you. Or, you can kill it with a machete, since you move at full speed. - As you traverse winter, farm the trees on the border, so you'll have plenty of wood when you reach the cave.
