      @BarefootBentley 3 дня назад

      Yes, you need the connector hose for the low pressure inflator and the pro limiter connectors. I'll try and toss a quick short together for the connections. I have a complete kit I suggest for first-time buyers if you want more info.

    How does the J2 Base layer fit, compared to FE's size chart? I bought a size Large FE Thermocline vest, based upon their size chart, and had to return it for the Extra Large.

    • @BarefootBentley
      @BarefootBentley 17 дней назад

      The thermocline are notorious for being a poor fit - it's still a great product though. I haven't had that problem with the j2, it's true to size for me.

    Well said. Don't underestimate it. I've started maintaining my own regs since two years since I'm a tech diver and I wasn't always happy with the quality of service for the price at my nearby dive shops. I also felt it was important to learn and understand how my regs work, now that I'm doing dives where I depend on them working well. But it does take time and attention to do it properly. Some finicky parts require careful work. And you'll need plenty of tools so the initial cost is quite high. Of course, you can amortize that over many years.

    I'm a new dry suit diver and have a question about running the hose from the condom to the pee valve. I'm wearing multiple layers; base, and insulated. These layers don't have fly or zipper openings. Have you had to cut holes to route the plumbing through this setup? If so, where would you recommend making those holes. Thanks for the video, very informative.

    • @BarefootBentley
      @BarefootBentley Месяц назад

      If your undies don't have holes you'll have to make them. Mid thigh is the typical spot and then run the plumbing up from there. Some people prefer a direct connection (cut the plumbing short enough to meet the cath on your thigh) while other route the plumbing in a big loop and their cath up on their body. However you do it, make sure to reduce the chance of hose kinking - that's bad.

    This is basically a standard setup but you're breathing from your octo and keeping your primary on a necklace in case of an emergency. At 40 inches the longest hose is still short, so you're not putting distance between you and the panicked diver. The only advantages are that you know you're donating a working second stage, and the backup is always in the same place. I get that a 7 ft hose can be a lot to handle for a some people, but that's why there is the 5ft hose option. It's routed the same way, except it tucks under your armpit instead of under a hose retainer or canister on your waist strap, so it doesn't require hose management. It's as streamlined as the option shown here, but it gives you almost 2 feet extra distance when donating. This also means the OOG diver can comfortably swim next to you. This seems to me like a half measure when going to a full measure requires no additional effort and very little additional cost. A 5ft hose is only about $5 more expensive than a 40in hose and all it takes is running it across your chest and around the back of your neck. If you want to have your long hose primary in yellow, you can still do that with a 5ft hose. They're available in yellow as well.
