      In bigger productions you have a backup for nearly everything. If the show relies on the backing tracks you would have to start over. If the tracks are just there to support the performance you just keep playing.

    • @aleksandergrzybowski8899
      @aleksandergrzybowski8899 Месяц назад

      Nah, you don't have to start over. You just play the current song without it (which will most likely also kill the lighting and any video stuff, if this is automated too), then the frontman will try to buy some time bantering with audience while the crew switches to the backup rig, and restart from the next song. Backup rig can be anything ranging from identical laptop to old mp3 player with track files.

    As someone who has done monitor mixes for many bands in medium size indoor and outdoor venues, (including Cheap Trick, Reba McIntyre, Willie Nelson and many others) with traditional wedges, there was never an instance where in-ear was used. All of the artists I mentioned and the many other lesser-known bands I mixed for, consistently played tight even when improvising a riff or solo. If you're performing in venues (other than bars and small clubs,) where people are paying a premium to see you perform, you damn well better have it together without relying on click tracks and prompts in your ears. Click tracks and Autotune (don't even get me started on that) are a scourge that has ruined music as it used to be. Music used to be all about raw talent and emotion. Now with Autotune and a click track, even I, with a horrible voice (but decent sense of time signatures) could produce a decent performance. But why? Who'd even care once they knew I was tracked and Autotuned? I wouldn't pay premium money for that, and neither should your fans. Now *IF an in-ear was used for a traditional mix without click tracks, cues or directions,* I see the value in that as the main drawback of wedges is the sheer SPL's ( Sound levels) needed at each band member's feet blasting up at them. I have suffered a fair amount of hearing loss from my time mixing, both from proximity to the stage and my own set of wedges I used to check mixes with. With in-ears, I could monitor at a much more comfortable level and still give the band their mix as loud as they want.

      I thought they wear IEMs to listen to what they are playing 😂. Because the speakers are Firing front away and I thought may be they won't be able to listen much I never thought about click track Bpm. I always thought they go about their ears and each instrument sync with others

    • @mxslick50
      @mxslick50 Месяц назад

      @lavatr8322 You are pretty close. When I was doing it, most of the time the drummer was the "click track" for most of the band members. The drummer wanted mostly his own kit in his mix, along with lead vocals and lead guitar. Bass wanted kick drum and vocal, same with lead guitar. Lead vocalists were all over the map, but most important to them was their own voice, set very loud. (Nothing to do with ego, critical for singing on key). Instrument wise most lead vocals liked some drums and lead guitar...but I had a few vocals who wanted just themselves and loud bass guitar. (And people think the bass guitar player wasn't important...) It did vary by artist, and some also wanted the mixes changed up for certain songs. I used to get a lot of shocked looks when I would nail a changeup on the fly. And I was doing it on an analog Yamaha console, none of this new digital fader, push a button multi preset BS. Most mixes were 16 channels per mix. I miss doing it, it was fun and I met quite a few really nice and great musicians.

    Wow. Lots of vague and incomplete answers. After watching it twice this is what I heard: 1. You switched from hitting the edge of your stick on the edge of the hi-hat to tip of stick on top of the hi-hat. This gave a much cleaner sound that worked better for this groove. Edit: After watching again, maybe it was just pressing the hi-hat tighter together or a combination of both but it had the same effect either way. 2. Your snare hits were louder (rims shots maybe) which made that 2 and 4 really pop. 3. You included a bass drum hit when you hit the crash. This almost always makes the crash sound better, especially when used on the downbeat like you did here. Like others have already mentioned, all of these things are decisions which can change based on context. For this instance, it definitely made for a more confident and funkier sounding groove.

  • @ThatsOneNiceKitty
    @ThatsOneNiceKitty 2 месяца назад

    You also definitely changed the sound or compression, it wasn’t just the playing. The first one sounded like room mics while second sounded like properly leveled mics pointed at the drums, with heavy compression.

    *I don't play instruments or anything* but my guess is learning how to hit without HITTING the hell out of everything. Lol if every part is intense, nothing is. Nothing stands out if everything is the thing you hear most. (I still think there's a place for the first sound but it's a place where the symbols are intentionally the focus 🤷🏼‍♀️) It's funny to think that to me the first one was more overwhelming than hardcore metal. This let's me know there is a way to do "heavy" that still has this ballance. this is probably a good base example of the difference.
