Ranked and Tournaments have completely independent MMR systems, that's why. I was SSL and never played tournaments, and when I did I always played against GCs because I didn't play enough to get my Tournament mmr up. Also side note, try to minimize challenging or diving as the last man back. It's incredibly risky and only good to do it if you 100% know you are going to beat your opponent. But as a rule of thumb, default to shadowing and buying time for your teammate to get back.
