This was the very first game i received when i was a kid, before i broke the disc lol. I remember mostly exploring and fights were very hard and game over screens always gave me nightmares. For a 2000 game its not half bad but shooting and combat is tricky.

Im sure you have a huge backlog of games to review, but I just remembered a game called For The King has a very… ocean themed game mode. Im not sure it counts as a “pirate game”, certainly doesnt hit that middle of the diagram, but I would count it. You do things like fight a kraken, sail on a ship, and has pirate themed cosmetics. Could be a nice change of pace.

Well its on xbox, so I’ll add it to the list! This channel has inspired me to 100% all the pirate games I can find on xbox, now that I have nearly 100% finished Sea of Thieves.

If you can still get it, Age of Booty is another old favorite of mine. Experience is a bit lacking without other players anymore, but there is technically a campaign.

Hi, I've been following you for a while. I was wondering if in the future, despite its uninspiring looks and hideous writing, you would consider making a video about Sailing Era. The game seems quite vast and has quite a bit of mechanics, so I'm surprised of how little I can find about it on the internet.

Although you may never play again because of the membership fees and various other problems I loved watching someone go through and comment on one of my favorite childhood games. I also especially loved the theories on where certain aspects of the game came from and the fun random facts sprinkled throughout. ❤

I was going to buy Dragon Quest XI S but unfortunately for some reason the developers decided to not include Japanese interface or subtitles into Western Regions for the game. So now I'm feeling super "salty" and will rather buy something else that looks very wholesome even if it is in English. Thanks for the review Mr Scurvy.

What got me really hooked was the moments on the Field where you had to do things very specific to interact with things on the world. A found a manhole that I could not open, but noticed 3 Nodes that I had to power. I tried using thunder spells but I had to activate them all at eh same time. I was confused in how, and thought I had to level up a specific class for its AoE thunder, until I decided to Look at the trees. Upon reading, it says that the trees can catch on fire, but in return it'll combust violent and cause a electrical explosion around it. 3 evenly spaced nodes. 1 Tree in the middle. Oh My God. xD

The game was really great. The only thing that I think its lacking is its vanilla dungeon.

The cheat menu can't be activated due to an update patch. I use the gog version equivalent to steam. So the cheats don't work at all. The result is a lousy, shitty game. If anyone knows how to activate the menu in some way, please explain it to me. el menu de trucos no puede activarse debido a un parche de actualizacion uso la version de gog equivalente a la de steam. asi que los trucos no tiran de ninguna manera. el Resultado es una mierda de juego pesimo. si alguien sabe como activar el menu de algun modo que me lo explique

Personally I like the Age of Sail for its romantic adventure setting, but piracy itself isn't a big draw for me. Privateers and merchants and such can be equally intriguing. I'm not aware of the Caribbean having much coral reefs, but your point holds thoroughly true when you consider the many sand banks especially around the Bahamas. Those have yet to be captured properly in any game at all. Treasure Planet is pretty darn cool! And definitely pirate themed as well. And for sure Monkey Island is a pirate game in my book.

Very wrong ... target audience is all ages... There are references you 'should not' understand as a kid ... and the adults 'get it' instead... It's like a playable Disney Game.

Best way I've found to fix the menu breaking from after alt-tabbing is finding your way to the options menu, unchecking fullscreen, applying, then re-checking fullscreen and hitting apply. It's not perfect, as it's obviously very distorted, and the game effectively has to restart to do it, but it's fine as long as you did a save or autosaved recently.

Absolutely loved this game. Found this hidden gem in a steam sale a few years back. Played about 50% then had to drop due to time constraints. Hoping I can get another run going soon. Great video thanks for keeping the Pirate video game spirit alive!

That video is a gem! This game is full of bugs, but it's so charming, somehow. This video helps a lot! I stumbled on the infinite loading screen a number of times already and everytime it required a different solution. None equal to yours, btw hahaha. That's how I endend up here. This time, I had to uninstall the game to make it work. I decided to leave it here, just as a word of advice to anyone crazy enough to try this game in 2024 hahaha Awesome video!

I have issues with sound, the music sounds rattling, even in game menu mode. Changing OS compatibility mode doesn't fix this. I found somewhere that you have to edit engine.ini file and set UseMM on 0, problem my engine.ini is missing this UseMM entry. Any tips ?

Bought this game like 10 yrs ago and then heard that the Devs went bankrupt so the game was put on halt for years, Now i'm hearing the Devs plan on improving it and making an online game out of it.

I remember that game before in the 2000s where windows xp computer. But can you recall some of the new islands like Moonlight Cove, Nightbridge or Volcano island, new cannon powers like SpikeRoller or even Dumbfire similar like a missile that I never seem before?

UNABLE TO LOAD SAVES Users who are experiencing a save/load malfunction can try this fix. For some reason it appears the games configuration document has installed without the save folder being named? We'll return to the ini folder but this time open the one named 'mountlist_packed.ini' as a notepad file. Use CTRL+F to use the find function and find the 'save=' code. Change it to 'save=SaveGames' before saving the document. TL;DR \SteamApps\common\Risen 2\data\ini\mountlist_packed.ini file change 'save=' to 'save=SaveGames'
