    Would it be simple enough to swap out that fan if it was to start failing? Is it soldered for example?

    • @JokerTheVlad

      No, I would just buy a new unit for the same price as a fan would cost, lol.

    Can it be configured to show up as x1 single drive when using all 4 bays?

    • @KeepItConcise
      @KeepItConcise Месяц назад

      Yep! You'll need software to do it though. If using Mac, select "JBOD" in the RAID setup to have the computer recognize all disks as one.

      @@KeepItConcise I see! So disk utility on a Mac won't be able to do the RAID set up?

      @@scooter_nz Sorry for the confusion--Yes, you can setup JBOD through disc utility> RAID Assistant on Mac.

    Thanks for the video. I am considering buying the D4-320 and I think this video answered my question, but I wanted to still ask, just to be sure: The D4-320 exposes every drive individually, not as a single large drive, correct? I think I saw a few uninitialized drives in your Finder in this video. Thanks again for the video, love the fact that they are quick and to the point. Subbed!

      Glad you liked it and I appreciate the sub! Yes, by default, the drives are recognized individually. You can also group them in RAID or JBOD with software.

      I agree. It would be nice to have it on the front, but at least you can still access it without needing to move the enclosure.

    def a concise review, thanks much! doing some research on a semi-cheap multibay drive dock, and wanted to pick your brain. As a summer project, I'm looking to migrate prob 25-30 old SATA drives from the archives, and localize them on to my primary DAS. curious if you think an array like this would be up to the task? will be a lot of in-and-outs with drives, and can see where using the right array will be helpful for project like this. have used docks before that seemingly disconnect if you look at them wrong, and was glad to hear there were no arbitrary disconnects with this. Not having dedicated power buttons for each drive might be an issue, but in OSX if drive is disconnected properly this shouldn't be an issue. i'm in the brainstorming process of this project and apprecaite any input, thanks! btw: just subbed, love these types of YT channels tbh. in a world of "niche down" creators, I actually love coming across cool channel that touches on variety of life, nice work m8!

      Thank you for the sub! Yes, a power button could be an extra safety measure but isn’t necessary. Like you mentioned, I just eject the drive in OSX and have had no issues when swapping. You could use this enclosure for your task if you don’t mind popping on/off the trays for each drive. If you’re really strapped for time, you could get one of those external hard drive docks that look like a toaster. It may streamline your process since you wouldn’t need a tray for each HDD. That being said, I really do like this enclosure. It has still been rock-solid with no disconnections and can’t recommend it enough. I should probably get an affiliate link for this!

    Thanks for the info, very useful, i would have liked to see if it correctly passes through hard drive serial number information to the operating system it is connected to though

    • @KeepItConcise
      @KeepItConcise 2 месяца назад

      Thank you! From what I can see, my Mac and PC only recognize the serial number of the enclosure, not the individual drives.

      @@KeepItConcise that seems to be the case with a lot of these usb enclosures, I have one from qnap that does the same thing, which makes it not a great candidate for a drive enclosure for a NAS, still good for just adding a few drives to a pc though, thanks for the info on that
