6 years before this movie, gas was 29 cents a gallon (as it had been for ages). Then the oil embargo in 73/74 almost doubled the price. Lines for gas stretched for miles in some locations.

You should smoke some weed when you watch this movie. I remember watching this movie at the Drive-In Theatre, people were smoking weed during the movie from inside their car.

This movie will always be a part of my life. I grew up in these days, EVERYONE had a crush on Phoebe Cates. I remember when they built this mall. I remember that whole floor and the arcade. Class of 84

The song was Earache My Eye featuring Alice Bowie. Korn did a HARD version of that tune.

Love that the entire movie was filmed in LA, Malibu, PCH. The venue they played is the Roxy on Sunset Blvd. Just about every famous LA band played there.

Damn I was born in 1987 I grew up on Cheech and Chong since I was 5 years old My dad was a Stoner and we would watch The Corsican Brothers, Up In Smoke, Still Smoking, Nice Dreams, and Cheech and Chongs Next Movie religiously Along With Bruce Lee Flicks And Van Damn Flicks and War Movies like Apocalypse Now, Platoon, Full Metal Jacket, Hamburger Hill man I miss being a kid watching movies with my pops while he smoked his Joints and Camel 🐫 Cigarettes He put me on some of the Best movies I've ever seen to this day ❤❤❤❤ You Dad I'll never forget our Father Son Bonding😊😊

Some trivia about the film.. ( Minor trivia ) The only character to make more than one appearance in the series of films ( All 3 of them funny enough. ) is Ange, the demon form is the same actresses voice and not someone elses like a lot of people thought at the time.

I am glad you chose to do the original vs the remake.. The remake is ok but its no where near as good as the original.. That said you would probably be better off watching the remake over watching Night of the Demons 2 and 3. 3 is almost impossible to find now but 2 was really... Well it was shocking they got a 3 due to that one I will say that. ( It did have some funny bits to it though. )

There is another of their films called Nice Dreams that is not bad either.. There is one scene specifically that had me laughing big time but admittedly its kind of a childish joke/gag. It involves a straightjacket.

UP IN SMOKE was never a 'good' film but it was fun for a certain segment of the audience at the time. And that segment pulled in friends and more friends so weekend parties often occurred in those theaters for 10-20-30 weeks. When theatre owners were tired of those folks, they'd pull it and some other theater would grab it and again, for ten weeks or more. In a few years, a re-release would start this cycle all over again. Cheech did some pretty good films (AFTER HOURS as a small role in an ensemble cast) but it was his BORN IN EAST L.A. that was a great role - close enough for his Angelenos persona but hearty enough to force the delivery of some good acting chops.

Thanks!! My little sis and I basically know ever line from this movie. I may be a "senior" now but years ago when I had surgery they pumped me with happy juice, I did every line in this movie, then they knocked me completely out, probably just to shut me up. But is so cool seeing L.A. Like it used be.

In high school we found a Big Bamboo paper in an old album . We rolled an ounce joint at lunch.

This came out in theater when I was 15 and my ex-babysitter took me to see it. On the way there it was only the second time I'd ever gotten high and we got REAL high. Needless to say that was the hardest I'd laughed up to that point in my life, I was in tears. I'll never forget that day and been a steady fan of theirs since. Even met them a couple times at various events and they were always very nice guys and funny as hell.

This was Mean Girls before Mean Girls. I like it because it's much darker.
