It’s hard

This was not a planned “date idea” or “hangout”! One night Randall was at worship practice and it was just me and Rye. She went sugar-free about a year ago, but was craving some ice cream! (I recently made the decision too) We jumped in the car, ran into @heb (not an ad, but we love them), and found so many flavors we couldn't decide. So we grabbed them all! Then instead of picking one for the night, we had a little of all of them! These were all creamy and delicious! 10/10 recommend!!! The best part is I used part of our grocery budget so it didn't cost us anything extra! If I’m being honest, I have been guilty of stalking my ex and his girlfriend’s account and my husband’s ex and my stepdaughter's social media …. At the time, I was trying to gather information to help keep the kids safe! Or at least that is what I told myself. Let’s be honest I was also being nosey! I was freshly divorced, what was once my normal life had been turned upside down. I didn’t know how to let go of control. But all I was doing was driving myself crazy! I would look for things to prove that my ex was an unfit parent. Although I had a fat folder to show the judge, I never did. I don’t think he would have taken it anyway. (We can talk in the DMs about that if you want.) The moral of the story is if you are stalking your ex’s social media, STOP!!! It’s not beneficial to anyone! Trying to connect with a stepchild can be difficult. Especially if they are distant, uninterested, spoiled, manipulative, and/or reject you. I’ve met so many stepmoms who have walked away from marriage and love because of their stepkid. This breaks my heart! They tell me they tried, but their stepkid is _________. What had happened was… 😂 Does anybody else have these convos with God? The first step is recognizing that you are PART of the drama! Many moms and stepmoms are unwilling to admit the role they play. So if you can, kudos to you! If you have no idea, ask God to show you areas you are making things worse. Then be ready, because something will happen and the truth will reveal itself. Sometimes it's simply in your reaction to the choices others are making. Next comes the hard part! 👉Respond differently. If your child picks a fight, stay calm and validate their feelings. Then let them know you will not be fighting back and you will be in the next room when they want to chat. Then walk away. When your ex is always 3 hours late dropping the kids off, offer to pick them up next time. If your stepchild ignores you when you walk into the room, stop expecting a warm welcome.
