      @@ScottTakai Ofc I went on such a long binge after I found you initially. One thing I would love for you to talk about if you've dealt with before is problems with work ethic. I feel personally for me that that's the only thing holding me back- I'm good at landing clients and I'd say I meet expectations consistently. I do however also have really severe ADHD thats currently driving my entire business to the ground. Totally understand if this isn't something you struggle with or have experience with, might be a little of a long shot. Either way, the content is all super valuable and I'm looking forward to seeing your next drop.

    Interesting to hear your experience, Scott. I've been in the industry as a video production company for over 7 years, 3 of those freelance. We have great clients from GQ, Aston Martin, shot a lot of famous people, and we're niched in sports and automotive. But this year has been a complete U-turn, clients not sticking to our agreements, lazy briefs, late payments etc. It's strange, and it's the first time I've ever been burnt out due to all the hardcore outreach and sales we've been having to do over this year. I've scheduled a few weeks off, lowered the business expenses as low as possible so the business can just sustain itself whilst I'm away, and I'm going to do other stuff. I think everything works towards something though and nothing is wasted. So I'm excited for what's to come.

      That’s awesome man. I don’t have the resources to automate things, so I’m just taking referral jobs as they come and letting myself recalibrate and plan out what I want to do next. What are some of your next plans?

    • @Cameron_Hall96
      @Cameron_Hall96 Месяц назад

      @@ScottTakai Pretty much exactly the same, whilst I'm away no work will be getting done company-wise. I've stopped taking salary from the business in the meantime and I'll try sustain my personal costs with freelance gigs here and there. The income from freelance goes further in my pocket compared to the drop in the ocean it would be in the company. Although I'll see if there's consequences are in a few months haha. Exactly, it's that freedom to recalibrate that is important. Sometimes you have to let the dead wood burn off in order to stop the whole forest from going up in flames. Next plans, I've been really getting into 3D modelling and animation these past few months, so I'm spending as much time as possible just learning and enjoying this. Hopefully get good enough at it to freelance some 3D work. I have no idea how, but I made it happen with video from no experience 7 years ago, so should be possible to do it again for 3D and now with years of experience under my belt. No real plan, just enjoying the chaos.

    Thanks for sharing! I lost a big ongoing client earlier this year and I’ve still not managed to fill the $50K hole in my turnover. Things can change pretty quickly in the current market. Everyone is feeling it. It’s harder to lock in budgets and acquisition costs (leads) have gone parabolic. Circa $6 to upwards of $25 when I last looked at my ads campaigns back in May. So probably not an issue with your campaign but moreso cost per lead (in my case cost per click on AdWords) went sky high and sucked budget without delivering a single conversion. That cash you spent investing in yourself was worth it for personal growth but definitely bled your reserves in a time when you need a buffer to know which way things will go - so maybe a small oversight but certainly would not have been in any other market and certainly not pre pandemic. If you invested well in sales and marketing pre pandemic you would have probably doubled bottom line within a year or so. Not the same market today and is all uphill at the moment. Come November we’ll know more but even then it won’t bounce back straight away. A lot of people are burning through cash reserves. Time to pay down debt and reduce living costs adequately to ride out the next 6 to 18 months. Having a job is a good way to make that a reality and the podcast will be a great outlet for you to break up the time whilst working for someone else.

    16k to grow, run ads, and lead tips for Video production is kind of expensive. and productizing your service is kind of what made you look like everyone else. but your Storytelling and "You" got Tony Hawk. I don't know how to get new leads right now either. I think post-November, there will be a lot more media being played so maybe more leads. Personal brand pivot is for sure way more fun.

My ultimate goal is to make movies and work on sets. I have a semi-structured three-year plan: start by establishing a solid client base, then transition to part-time work, and eventually go full-time with cinematography and RUclips. I like the raw authenticity you bring to the video. Cold calling can be one of the most exciting things. Some people resonate while other's do not. I see this and think if they picked up the phone clearly there is some interest. the first guy for example and this may unwanted advice. From my perspective and back ground in sales, he could have been interested. He did respond to the Ad, he did pick up and sure he did say he was hiring some kid and did say thank you. I heard you say people who respond to the ad to get to book a call and that you have closed people who do not book the call which is excellent to hear. For the first guy after he said "I think we have a young film student that's gonna take care of it for use." (he said think, so wasn't a guarantee that he has the film student.) Instead of saying "okay no Worries." I would have said something along the line of, "Yeah man, Those young film students can be great. I was one of them myself before I started Takaimedia. I wanted to producing high quality videos for educators and content creators such as yourself to help grow your brand. The young student would do a great job I have no doubt. I think back to when I first started, I didn't have the skills I have now or the team to help with filming. I started as the young kid did with a dream and a camera. I would love to see if we could get a project going for you, that we could complete in the way you envision. 5-10 minutes to understand you and your business needs. We chat for 5-10 minutes if you don't like what we can do for you (which I know you won't) then go you already have the young film student lined up." A rough idea you can adjust to your words and personality. i know you said you like cold emailing, Cold calling (warm calling since this guy oped in) is a great way to build rapport. hope this helps man! and if any of this was unwanted let me know. I did sales for a couple of years and loved every aspect of it. the words, people use and how to keep them on the phone. You have the stories so use them, and you may have later in the video. I was watching this at 9:30. I look at it as use the skills you are good at and have someone help with the skill you aren't great at.

      Thanks for the advice! I’ll definitely try that next time. Since it was my first time cold calling, I was getting different responses that I’m not used to answering so I definitely am open to any tips that more experienced cold callers are willing to offer. Talking through ad leads is definitely more in my comfort zone and I want to expand on that. Sales is really fun to me and even though it’s something I don’t consider myself professional at, it’s exciting to be bad at something and to document my progress on getting better. Again, loved your comment and I appreciate the time you put into it. Is cold calling something you’d be interested in seeing more of from myself? I’m definitely open to doing more, especially since I’m surprised that the video is performing better than my average content

      @@ScottTakai A friend of mine shared your video with me. I think you should do more of what you enjoy. What would your audience like to see? is it for tracking or getting cusomers? What is the goal of the channel. Also have a script our a rough outline of a sales script helps a lot. know why you are calling, who you need to talk to and what pain you are solving for the person. have a feeling you know this already with you having your own business and website. Coll calling takes practice man. I didn't see how many you did. I would make 100 plus dials a day so about 2,000 plus a month. I also like leaving Voicemails. That is a personal touch I found helped drive sales. I am getting back in to cold calling as I took sometime off, and was creating a lot of youtube video. Time for me to get some clients myself. And I would be happy to review the whole video and make a video out of it on my page if your cool with that.

    I'm in the same exact position as you as we speak Scott. Started a lot of "influencer" related ventures at the start of my media career then realized how important continuously selling yourself is in this industry. So I took a stop back, doubled down on the work itself, and now I'm in this position where I love what I do but I am starting to get a little drained from simply creating for others. I also started picking up RUclips again this year with the goal of being unfiltered and simply trying to have a conversation with who Is on the other end of the camera. I think we need more of this on RUclips, so I'm glad I came across your content and got to hear about your journey in the creative field. Just wanted to add all of this as a way of saying don't ever feel like you are alone in your thoughts on pivoting your career and the way you create. We're blessed to be able to change what we do for a living on the fly unlike other careers. Embrace that!

      Thanks so much for the comment! Glad to hear too that people are in a similar boat. You're right that we're blessed to be able to change course on things more easily than other jobs. Where are you currently in the process of picking back up on youtube?

      @@ScottTakai I stopped before I started essentially. I was very into short form editing at the time for clients and thought "if I can do this good for other people, why not do it for myself?" but I was wrong I realized doing time consuming vfx for myself, just to get a few views, was not going to work out for me 😂. So I took a step away and finally came back around with the mindset that I am going to start with a few bulletpoints for a script and see where things go from there. I used to always journal, but now that I am more into film making than any other artform I came up with the idea that I will start with RUclips being a journal in a way, and then see where things go

      Haha dude those are literally the same things I went through haha. RUclips for me will be similar to where I'm just sharing journaled thoughts as my content. I made some short form on instagram but I'm over that platform now so gonna focus on youtube. Are you going to be sharing your experiences as a filmmaker for your content?

      @@ScottTakai I believe so, I started freelancing during COVID as that was the time I graduated college with a marketing degree and found it impossible to get a job in the field. So if I could summarize my content it would be anything that educates people or inspires them to take the leap into the world of media and freelancing!
