Congratulations Thunder Band! 4th Place overall in Music! Let me repeat that...4th Place OVERALL in Music! Ponder the following: our lead Tuba was playing Euphonium in May, our lead Trombone was playing Percussion in January, and our lead Tenor who was also covering the Euphonium part was playing Clarinet last March. I wonder how many groups Saturday were in a similar situation. I could not be more proud of this group of students! Once again in the face of adversity, they are OVERACHIEVING! :<) cjh

Do you believe in Destiny? Kindred Spirits is fascinating: Jezrah, Valeria, Isaac, Mia, and Sophia are all NOT in Band on the first day of school. Think about that. They all played an important role. Sophia (Finger Cymbals) and Mia (Bells) play a minor role, but that frees up Nue (Vibraphone) and Nathan (Chimes) to play a vital role. Who plays those instruments if Mia and Sophia are not in Band? We chose Kindred Spirits over Shenandoah, Heaven’s Light, As Summer was just Beginning, and Amazing Grace. Heaven’s Light has a huge Flute solo. LC coughed in the middle of Kindred Spirits. Not noticeable. On Heaven’s Light, that would have been VERY noticeable. We fixed one of Alonso’s Kindred Spirits intonation problems in the Warm Up room. Summer was having reed problems in the Warm up room. We brought ALL of the Percussion. What if we hadn’t? What happens if Paulina gets sick one day earlier? So many variables. Thought provoking…

Beyer has always been one of my favorite High School field show bands and their 1994 show is probably my favorite. How do you teach High School kids to march at 160+ BPM? Unbelievable! This is an early season competition...early October. It would be neat to see what they looked like at the WSMBC Championships in November! I saw this performance live. Enjoy! :<) cjh

What an incredible start to an incredible year! This video was recorded one week after-school started. Keep in mind, the Thunder Band does NOT have Band Camp! We do have sectional rehearsals during the summer...mostly focused on music...but these students are marching after only a couple of rehearsals! Whoa! You could tell even from this first rehearsal that the Thunder Band was going to have a historic year! :<) Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Thunder! cjh

Congratulations Thunder Band! The Band set a new school record Saturday! A 92.6 is our highest first Band Review score in BCHS history! The Band continues to overachieve in the face of adversity! I am looking forward to what the Thunder Band is going to accomplish this year! We are in the midst of our SECOND set of GLORY years (2008 - 2013 and 2016 - Present)!
