In this episode of CityBilly Adventures, we're putting together a homemade livewell with components that we bought on Amazon. A friend of mine is getting ready to drain his pond so it can be dredged next summer, and he's given us an open invitation to take out as many fish as we want for fish fries, or relocation. Our pond already has a healthy bass population, so today we're focusing on catchi...
Building A 150 Yard Shooting Range In Our Backyard
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.3 месяца назад
We're building a 150 yard shooting range in our backyard in this episode of CityBilly Adventures! One of the most important parts of building a gun range is having a proper backstop. Our property slopes downhill to a lake, then goes back uphill into a large wooded area. The clearing on the hill is a perfect backstop for our range. Over the years, we've slowly cleared more brush and added more t...

Thanks for the support!
Excellent video. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the kind words
We have a rock wall. Will the masonry bits work in rocks?
It should work but not quite as fast as it would in brick. It might be helpful to occasionally wet the drill bit to cool it off. It will last longer that way 🤙
You made one mistake in the siphon. You need to install a branch at the bottom outlet. You had air getting into the pipe through the bottom pipe. If you installed a short bend upwards, everything would have worked the first time. Even if the connections between the pipes are bad.
I used flexible pipes in a similar one and turned the hose up a little at the bottom end. So that air doesn't get into the pipe.
And to remove bottom sediments (I may have already written about this under another video of yours), you need to use a mini dredger made of two motor pumps and a Bagermaster suction nozzle.
Cleveland here. Nice work city BILLY 😆 🤣
Thanks! Ohio against the world 🤙
😮 love it
Hey brother good job I keep pausing cuz am trying to do this in my mobile home I started with 2x3 but I think 🤔 2x4 is better just need a little help how many 2x4 did you buy ? Ty I keep watching ur channel cuz am doing all the work myself diy Joey
Thanks for watching! Hard to say exactly how many 2x4's we used or how many you'd need. About a dozen would be a good start. Best advice I can give you is to try to map out the project on paper before you start. Take some measurements, create a rough plan. But you'll likely always need to take multiple trips to the hardware store. And you can always return materials that you didn't end up using. Good luck with your project(s)!
how is it looking now after a few years of completion? How do you treat it or keep it from greening up again?
@wolfnewman9432 I'm not sure if you're talking about the dock or the lake, but we're overdue to seal the dock with water sealer to protect the wood. As for the lake, we treat it with copper sulfate a few times per year to keep the algae down and occasionally an herbicide for underwater plants. Recently we've had an issue with muskrats moving in and damaging the clay lining 🤬 but overall the pond is healthy and the fish are big!
@@CityBillyAdventures yes i was referring to the water .. thanks for the reply
great video. I dont see many that install it the right way. Happy to see you used gravel and rip rap. good work!
Thanks!
Nice job! The stack piles very high in the shed, how do you get the wood down, with a ladder?
Thanks! The piles are a little tall but I can reach the top on my tippy toes haha. And everything other than the top 10% is easy to reach.
What wood splitter was that?
@speedbump1984 Countyline 25 ton from Tractor Supply. I've been considering doing a review video but there's already a ton out there.
Hi, can you tell me the height you mounted the side rails to the 4x4's? Distance apart too please.
@scottbucholz9501 I just replied to your other question in the comments but the side rails are 7" off the ground and the space between them is 76-1/2". The siderails are 11" wide. That was purely an arbitrary size though, and it doesn't come above the bottom of our mattress. I don't see why 9" wouldn't work. The mattress is heavy enough it shouldn't slide around. Hope this helps 🤙
Okay thanks. I couldn't see my original comment and your reply. By the way you have a nice shop, nice house and nice family! (I saw one of the negative comments) Take care.
@scottbucholz9501 I try to reply to every question, but judging by how many of my replies go unanswered, I must be doing something wrong haha 🤦♂️ Thank you for the kind words. Every video has a few trolls but this one probably has the most. Can't please everybody I guess 🤷♂️
Hi, another question. How did you clear coat? Hand sand with 500 after each coat?
3 coats of matte poly, 400 grit hand sand between coats
Lake, versus Pond: If sunlight reaches the bottom, which in your case it clearly does, you have yourself a pond.
something i might want to do. Should have built a bridge first. Much easier to traverse.
The bridge makes a HUGE difference
One you said Cleveland suburbs .. I said bro got money money lol Thanks for the video!
I don't know about that but thanks for watching!
Love your work guys, and all the info, thank you for sharing and teaching
We appreciate you watching!
Excellent video. I need t do a room and have never done this type of work. Question: do the studs have to be 2' apart or can they be 3' ? what's the appropriate distance?
Generally the max distance between studs is 24". Drywall is flexible and you want something behind it to give it some rigidity. Good luck with your project!
@@CityBillyAdventures Thank you!
Interesting proget but the music 😡
When you started you looked professional like you done this a bunch especially all the remodel you did on your home. BUUUTT !!!. glad to see I'm not the only one that things don't always go according to plan including miscalculating measurements or not accounting for them. Just have to laugh and move on.🎉
Yep we always show our mishaps. Happens to everybody! Thanks for watching!
How well would 1x6s work instead of 2x6s in the head and footboards to reduce weight?
That would make a big difference. I only used 2x6s because I already had them laying around. If I had to build another bed I'd probably use 1x6's.
Thanks for the response! I’ll be tackling this soon, thanks for the video.
Good luck with your project!
Great video. Doing this to the brick wall in my bathroom. Any tips regarding moisture though? Should I leave a little bit of space for air flow between the brick and drywall? Also how much space did you measure between each 2x4? Thank you!
They make mildew resistant drywall called "green board" that would probably be good for your project. Usually wall studs are spaced 16" apart, 24" at most. Good luck with your project!
I finally subscribed. I guess I've got some catching up to do.
Lenny! Yeah grab a couch and get watching!

@craniumrex4614 Thanks for watching!
Love it! Loved the ending 😂
Thanks!!
How did you take the brick hearst off?
Angle grinder, sledge hammer, and elbow grease!
@CityBillyAdventures thanks!
I can't help but think that muddy bottom was your enemy all along. Those pipes should have been fine with they were properly glued. My theory is this: with the reduced water level, in conjunction with the muddy bottom, you were sucking mud. That's why you were getting spats of black water before it died. The mud choked the flow, and the air had opportunity to vent back up the pipe like a gas can does. I think all the extra stuff you did just bought you a little more time (suction time) for it to clear a hole enough for water to begin flowing before the pipe vented.
This is impressive, how much did materials cost?
Thanks! I don't have the exact number but around $500 I think. The doors were the most expensive part
So when you added the jack stud to the 3 stud "wall" you built on the right side, did you have to add another stud to the back to make the drywall flush? I can't quite tell, but seems like I'd need another 2x4 in the back of the closet to make the drywall sit flush . Hope this makes sense.
Yes you are 100% correct. I didnt think of this during construction until it was time to put up the drywall. And then I forgot again when I made the video. 🤦♂️ Good catch!
The bed is very beautiful great job. I need someone to build me a bed with a higher headboard and a storage cedar chest with 2 drawers for the footboard.
So what fish are in that creek
It's a very small creek. Mostly creek chubs and some small bluegill. Hoping someday to dig it much deeper and add trout
So it dosen't have trout add some brown trout they live in those creeks where i live in the balkans tho in the balkans we do not have bluegills and creek chubs but we have european chubs
Whereabouts on the lake was this?
Lone Mountain area
What size is the closet??
I laughed a lot with the numerous takes, all the way to 3,001 but frankly that's my life in a nutshell (including the screaming and frustration) Well done for making it work !
Showing the setbacks made the triumph so much better
How do you measure the opening for closet doors before you put the drywall and trim on?
The instructions on new closet doors should tell you the required size of the "rough opening". This is the space between the edges of the 2x4s when you frame in your closet. Add one inch to this measurement to account for 1/2 inch of drywall on each end to get your final opening. This total measurement should be at least the width of the new doors, and probably just slightly bigger. Trim doesn't really go inside the door opening and shouldn't factor into your measurement.
Do you have written plans/material list for this that you could share?
2:56 best I can do. This video was more of a "big idea" than a step-by-step how-to. You're about the 50th person to ask though so my bad on that
Hello there, How do you measure for the door opening before adding the trims? Thaks!
Hello! I'm not sure exactly what you're asking, can you be more specific?
Did You make it with woodprix instructions?
how long are 2x6 on the head board and foot board?
35-1/2 & 16-1/4. These can be changed if you want the headboard/footboard taller or shorter
@@CityBillyAdventuresThanks!, and how many inches is the gap between the floor and the 2x4 on the bottom of the head board?
20" for the headboard and 7" for the footboard. These measurements depend on how tall your mattress/boxspring are
Hello, can you tell me the height and distance apart the side rails are mounted to the 4x4's? I built mine out of lumber that I had milled and cut from a couple of dead trees I cut down last summer in my backyard. I could only get a 9" siderail. I'm not sure how I'm going to finish off the boxspring support as things might be sticking up too high
@scottbucholz9501 the side rails are 7" off the ground and the space between them is 76-1/2". The siderails are 11" wide. That was purely an arbitrary size though, and it doesn't come above the bottom of our mattress. I don't see why 9" wouldn't work. The mattress is heavy enough it shouldn't slide around.
The clear coat is a great idea
Just as a hint, next time when you use come-along (like in 15:47 ) use a hook to attach to the chain and roll up a line over the roller in a hook. This will give you double force so you won't need to put so much force to roll up.
Good vid, gave me some good ideas bro 👍
Thanks!
I'm building a lake also and need some pointers is there a way to contact you.
My email is in the "about" tab
wow! Impressive.
Thanks!

You near cleavland right?
Im originally from dayton
@tomspettel3646 yep
Low key epic.
I need to do this out in a field that I want to put an airstrip on but wasn’t sure how it gets done. I will need 60’ of 36” culvert I figure. Watching this gives me an idea on how it’s done. Great video. Thanks.
Good luck with your project!
Was fish passage considered in culvert design and placement???
Not really. Our creek is only a few inches deep most of the time so the only fish are minnows / creek chubs / crayfish etc. But the pipe sits slightly lower than the creek bottom so water still flows even when the water level is low.
You did very nice work though. Be well and blessed.
Thanks!
