A week after this video was shot this bear became aggressive to campers and was relocated 20 mi away. Actually we are on a trail that's heavily used near a major intersection of such trail. The bear became more aggressive trying to get food from campers, evidently somebody was feeding the bear because it kept approaching us like it wanted food. Pathetically the tourist feed the bears the bears become aggressive they get relocated and then they get terminated it's a vicious cycle tourist feed the bears they become aggressive wanting more food and then they are put down. Feeding a bear is no different than pulling out a gun and shooting it but the tourists don't understand.

It was amazingly fun discovering it with a little slush on top pitching the snow cat left and right with one track slowing down from one side or the other was just throwing the machine almost completely sideways into a Tokyo drift zigzagging only caught the last few seconds here pitching & sliding sideways, we were just laughing too hard to get the video going sooner. 😂

But not to worry caltrans has the 395 levee system running through the Bridgeport valley. The water was crossing 395 6" deep for miles. So all the snow caltrans has been fleeing off the highways with their snow plows plugged all the culvert drain systems that were inadequate to begin with because they paralleled the highway for great distances before crossing 395. I have put in numerous requests for nearly four weeks now to have these culvert ditches and pipes cleared. In my conversation yesterday I was informed they have one mini excavator in this end of the county and it's currently working up in the Walker area. Was also informed that the Big Meadows fish camp is on their priority list Jeopardy music playing in a loop until you go insane.

It's referred to as the 395 levee system by some. 😉 14 miles south of 182 on 395 all the water gets held up on the Eastside. From the East Walker half mile south of the buckeye turn off. Water flow has slowed and delayed from lack of culvert pipes . So it will back up for some time and then when the melt search comes there's no metal buffer so it just rolls through town. 97 we had 6in of water running across 395 for several miles

@@crazywayne7051 So whats Caltrans justification for keeping the road closed over 3 weeks? That slide could have been cleared in a day. And I say that because I have cleared dozens of slides from roadways just this year alone.

I was advised that these lost caltrans management team was inspecting culverts on green Creek road clear out to Dynamo pond. Caltrans clearing the snow has just been pathetic for years over here now. Yes we've had a lot of heavy snow but that's kind of a normal thing get a break in the storm you clear the roads out there would be five or six days where it didn't snow and roads just never got cleaned up to make room for the next storm. I was stuck just south of Lee vining off 124 about 2 weeks what caltrans was trying to get it together clearing Conway summit after somebody ran the snowblower into a guardrail 🤡 So with Conway summit closed and semi-truck tried to come in on 167 and got stuck near the cottonwood turn off. Well our trusty caltrans hero went to the rescue with the highway closed on 395 North on Conway summit and the same spot north of Lee vining due to snow in the road. And a broken blower. Well he headed out with his trusty loader to save this in my when he got there and attempted to turn around to pull it out he ran out of fuel, 😂🤣 So they called in a big rig wrecker from tonopah Nevada. With Nevada department of transportation N,Dot Digging out 167 from the Hawthorne side retrieved about 70 vehicles and after 18 hours they reached the out of fuel loader and stuck semi truck. Roughly 90 people were stranded out there on.

I had been camping in saline valley for 3 weeks and was attempting to exit on the south pass. Driving a 93 Dodge 4X diesel and stopped in 2 ft of snow at the bottom of the switchback and hiked to the top to see just how bad it was and catch the sunset. I had plenty of food still always carry 2 months worth when heading out there in the winter. So I took leppincott pass through tea kettle the racetrack etc only to discover Indian Wells did not sell diesel fuel, There was 6 in of snow and lone pine but I made it without running out of fuel driving 45 miles an hour. And there is no way I was going to try to exit to steal pass when flash flood or Boulder roll down blocking it and you're screwed never drive that route without a second vehicle rolling with you. Leppincott passing it's on with pretty hairy I had to get out and dig a couple notches and stacks and rocks at a couple spots.

Lippincott and Steele both have some challenging technical spots but my impression was you were stranded and I’m glad you weren’t. How do you like that, no diesel ! Jeez .. Thanks for the video. I think I detoured and had to reroute to get out over 20 miles to where I left my Scout. You kinda remember those things

@@charleyfolkes yeah it's pretty obvious in the winter they put the road on the wrong side of the canyon and it's just an ice rink at times but I always go prepared and I suggest anybody else does if you plan on going out for one week you should bring supplies for 2 weeks. And make sure you have your disaster planning in advance it's already set in your mind a lot of people don't do that then they just keep making bad decisions and not following through in One direction and that's usually how they're often found going in the wrong direction. I seen lots of people burn up automatic transmissions driving in snow or soft dirt put it in low range especially when trudging deep snow dragging axles

I've been over the South pass many a time and lots of snow when you're coming in make sure you put some chains on for that steep section going down on the North side that shady ice has put a few in a straight line through the switchback into the Darwin zone.

I don't think you're going to be able to drive over mountain passes in January as that's normally winter on the North side of the equator maybe you should try something south of the equator for January.

@@ExploringCabinsandMines bounce for a storms go either it is or it isn't lived in Eastern Sierra for 30 years the same here goes any day of summer you carry an umbrella under one arm and your snowshoes under your other arm. The South path is usually the most accessible in the winter just depends on how storm cell dumps it you can have 4 ft of snow in one area and 2 mi to the north as Lippincott pass had no snow on it whatsoever and that was how I exited. As far as cabins go I hope you're not one of those a holes that goes out there and is breaking into people's private cabins and such for anything that's out there is not for you I don't know if you're just one of these silly City boys who thinks you're going to show up and find a four-star hotel if that's the world you're living in I suggest you don't venture more than five or six feet from the edge of the parking lot or a concrete walkway.

@@crazywayne7051 From what I understand the cabins I've seen are adopt a cabins first come first serve on public land , yes I expect valet parking hot tubs and air conditioning and I'm going to fill my truck with everything I can carry. Now I know why you're called crazy Wayne.

@@ExploringCabinsandMines there's a lot of mining claims out there private residences that are grandfathered homesteads. So if you get shot by a minor or somebody who lives at their private house the Darwin's on you guys so verify your information. There are a couple cabins as you describe out there but I wouldn't exactly call it a cabin if you like sleeping with rattlesnakes go for it.
