MacBook Pro M1 (Late 2020) Dual Monitor Support
Productivity nerds rejoice!!!
Running dual monitors on my M1 powered MacBook Pro 13 inch. Using a DisplayLink hub from Targus connected to two 1080p monitors. (Hub Model: Targus ACP77 Dual 2K Universal Dock).
According to Apple's specs, the new M1 MacBook Pro only supports running one external display. Not so fast Apple!

CarPlay / Android Auto Install in my 2017 Mazda 3
Просмотров 167 тыс.6 лет назад
Install of CarPlay in my 2017 Mazda 3. Apologies for choppy video. Hope this helps! Feel free to leave questions below.
He just needed to remove all the seats to have enough room! 😂 Bro thanks for the video really useful!
Hey, question: Why did you take out your whole central console if your USB hub was under the climate control?
All you have to do is yank off the face of the old unit (a thin piece of plastic). This reveals four holes where a screwdriver or other thin tool can be inserted which releases the clips. The unit will then slide right out. We do salute you for your sacrifice all those years ago though, lol
Do you have a shown tutorial I can check please? My USB hub is sadly in the arm-rest...dunno why it is there and not under the climate control.
thanks. very helpful video. does the carplay work with bluetooth or do you have to keep the cable connected to use carplay? also, how to use it while car is in motion as I believe touch will be disabled.
I’m having so much trouble getting the screen out
Would you mind telling me what trim level your car is? I’m in the market for a Mazda 3 for a daily to take my rx8 off main duty- and I really want a manual but I’d like the automatic climate control
This is a 2017 Mazda3 hatchback, grand touring trim level
Is it possible to get one more display working if I keep the lid closed?
Does anyone which exact apple play usb to buy? Ive noticed that there's a lot on amazon and unsure on which one to purchase. Thank You
I just got a 2014 Mazda 3 GT Hatchback, it’s a very nice car. Interior is very nice, and upgraded the touchscreen to Apple CarPlay. I like how Mazda provides a oem kit to for it, no other company does this. Very impressed with the car.
My Man, you did SO much more work that you had to dismantling so much of the car. Thanks for the video :)
How did you get the touch screen to work ?
where did u get the stuff to download it
Hey guys if you're skinny like me you can get away with only removing the ac trim, the head unit and the glove box. I snaked my arm through a hole on the left side of the glove box and used plastic spudgers to blindly unclip each of the 4 clips on the USB hub. It's pretty painful and difficult but it's the least destructive method and takes the least amount of disassembling.
This is one of the most frustrating things Apple has ever done. Why not alloy for displayport changing if they are going to prevent dual monitor setups?
You got balls man! Well worth it...I should hope so...maybe tearing your whole car apart is easier than I think...jeez! Good for you!
will u do mine lmao
Update FW first! The center trim and vents were stressful getting off, but just wedge it loose and pull steadily with a good amount of force until it releases. Also, just use the new hub to figure out where the clips are holding the old one in. Take a thin flathead and push it into the 4 clips (pretty deep in) and wiggle it out. Makes it so much easier.
Hi I m in Vancouver. Where can I get someone who can install it
Thanks for this video! Ain't easy, but with patience and your video and a few other videos & manuals, I now have CarPlay/Android Auto in my new-to-me 2018 sedan.
Does it work android auto touch screen and map?
You legit forgot the most important part where you tell us which plugs go where….
Good informative video. One day I will probably have the itch for Android auto and install this.
Update: That day has come today. Installed the Android Auto Module on my 2017 Mazda without removing everything. Ripped off the front face of the old USB hub and then poked away at the four tabs while pulling it out with pliers. I tried poking at the two tabs from the top and pulling but because I had the manual AC version Mazda, it was blocking one of tabs. Overall took about 3 hours of trial and error and I would say it was worth it.
Could you take the car to the dealer so they could install it?
Installation Tutorial?????
I was told that it costs $199 to have this installed at the dealership. Not sure if that includes labor, but I found the product on Amazon for $152... All that to ask: Do you feel this is worth saving the $48, or would you recommend just taking it to Mazda?
For me, in CA, around the time of your post, it would cost $500. that is including labor. I decided not to go with the dealership. I am not sure if the price has gone up since then
Elizabeth is right. Installation is 200 +Labor and the original part itself is 150
Thank you, I’m about to embark in this mission, thanks for the guiding looks tough tho, I hope not to break anything on the process or to remember how to put it back
How did you mange thah your external monitors dont have blury text? I have Mac Pro 16" and on external FHD display the text is so ugly..
Where did you get the update ?
Do you have any issues with the mouse lagging on the external monitors?
lol
Thank you very much for this video. Can you say something about performace issues using this external adapter?
Also looking for this answer
I cant believe I bought a computer for almost 3000 USD and it difficult to extened to two display. Anyways this was my last MacBook, its not the money worth it for me.
my m1 macbook pro, after reboot stoped to work, displaylink over loading the system. using startech hub
Are you able to support external displays in clamshell mode? (closed laptop)
Currently, many are experiencing external monitor(s) issues when they updated their MacOs. Specifically, MacOs Big Sur 11.1 released on 12/14/2020. Have you updated to MacOS Big Sur 11.1? If so, are you experiencing any problems? Thanks.
I created a small website to summarize all information, showing supported hardware and more... If you are interested: m1-display.com
So we only use 2 monitor when have DisplayLink software, is that right?
Does the MacBook need to stay open for this to work?
Does m1 macbook air able to extend to 2?
Would you say that the mac air m1 is as powerful as the mac mini m1? I want to buy it and use it both as my laptop and as my desktop when working from home.
Nate. Using this Targus ACP77 2K Universal Dock, do you need to download anything else or is plug and play? I'm suspecting you need to download the Display Link Driver for Mac OS based on other reviews of Targus / other dual monitor docks. Can you advise?
I have similar setup with two 4K monitors @ 60hz, but I can feel it lags on the external monitors. And when I connected the docking station to a windows machine there was no such problem. Something is not working well with the macOS it seems. Do you feel any delay on your setup?
If 4k or above then you're beat, one monitor only. If, like in the video you have 1080p monitors then yea, it'll work with more than 1
Hi Nate, does it work in a clamshell? I have just set up everything and it works, however, the laptop lid shall be up, meaning 3 monitors like in your video. Do you know if it is possible to make it work in the clamshell mode?
Is the M1 MacBook getting hot when connected to the external monitor? My MacBook 16 inch gets very hot when connected to my monitor.
try dual 4K displays I think you will find it won't work.
Can you play HDCP Content when connected that way? (I.e. Netflix Hulu)?
No, unfortunately you can‘r run HDCP content when using Displaylink. ☹️
Do you use any specific driver or software to recognize the displays. Because only can use one, I tried switching and both ports and displays work perfectly alone but not together
Do I have to buy a DisplayLink as it costs around $200-300 Can't I just buy a dual HDMI to usb-c and connect the two monitors ?
And.... It Worked! Thank you I'm Now Able to run 4 monitors as I wanted!
Hey man, what kind of dock are you using? Thanks in advance!
NOTE This does not support rotation of the monitors. If you like to have your external monitors rotated the display link option will not work with M1 Macs. This was a big problem for me for I have a left and right monitor at 90 degrees with a primary large display in the middle. This is still a great option if all you need is horizontal monitors.
