A RADIOACTIVE GHOST TOWN; WHEN YOU VISIT NOW; TAKE HEED AS THE SOIL WAS/AND STILL IS RADIOACTIVE; THE CITIZENS OF MK WERE NOT TOLD THIS UNTIL HIGH INCIDENCES OF CANCER WERE REPORTED; THE ENSUING LAWSUITS AND PEOPLE LEAVING WAS THE MAIN REASON THE MINE WENT UNDER. MY GRANDPA WORKED AT MK AND SAID THAT ONCE SHTF EVERYONE WAS LEAVING AND MANY BELIEVED THE MINE CORP KNEW ALL ALONG HOW DEADLY LIVING THERE WAS; GRANDAD SAID THE MINE BOSSES DID NOT LIVE THERE BUT INSTEAD FLEW IN/OUT FROM MT. ISA BY HELICOPTER WHEN THEY NEEDED TO VIST; TYPICAL CORP BEHAVIOUR! OFFICIAL STORY IS THE MINE WAS DEPLETED BUT YET AGAIN MORE BS; THE FACT IS AFTER SHTF THEY COULD NOT CONVINCE ENOUGH WORKERS TO TAKE THE RISK;
That country is raw and rugged i drove from Winton to Mt Isa few times, McKinley and Kynuna also Boulia. Remote and isolated, harsh land. Glad i've experienced it.
I remember the ant hills. I went to Mk few times as a child. Cloncurry or as locals call it the Curry, and lived in Mt Isa my dad worked at open cut mine.
So one country bullies another country out of its land rock water ice minerals trees and wipes out its native people. Britain are slave runners and thieves for what they've done to Australia and all the islands around it. They never get punishes for all that they've done.
Hi mate just wondering how you knew Alan , (Murray ) his my partners pop , would love to know anything you could tell me about him as I'm researching family tree
A fascinating place. Now just a memory. All good things must come to an end sometime. Was there in April 2019. A place now steadily being taken over by natural processes. A lonely place now yet also a serene place. For many of the residents, workers and their families this was the most pleasant and happiest time of their younger lives.

My Brother and I use to play the pinball machines in the shop near the pub back in the 1970's
Who in there right mind would dig out a uranium mine smackbang in middle of waterways and creeks and not expect long term environmental havoc.
Grow up!
it would now make an excellent site for a Nuclear power station
