hi dave is it important to time the fuel pump looking forward to hearing from you
Hi. I recently had to replace the wiper linkage with a secondhand one and the guy in the breakers suggested to simply leave the motor on the ‘new’ linkage and that I give him the broken linkage/motor assembly that was replaced ( it was evident that the linkage not the motor had failed). Sadly on my way home I discovered that I don’t have intermittent wiper position anymore. The guy from the breakers has said it’s no problem if I want to swap the new motor with the one that came out of the old assembly/motor but I am reluctant to disassemble the linkage as I feel that will lead to future problems with the linkage. Also, I find it hard to believe that the wiper control is within the motor itself and that it’s more than likely controlled from theBCM as you indicate? Mine is a 2004 caravelle 1.9.
Did you copy the BCM codes first, before repair it? Or is it not neccesairy.
I didn't, you shouldn't need to as the coding will still the same. Might be worth doing just incase...
Oké, thanks. For copiing i first need a genuine vcds dongle or a obdeleven with pro plan. So if you didn't do it, i can take the gamble also. Thanks for the feedback.
I will be taking on this job very soon too. Can you tell me if you had the same issue as I am having. All the wiper functions work fine even the intermittent position, but if left the stark in the intermittent position for a few minutes all features stop working until I restart the engine again.
Sounds similar, I've heard of different symptoms being due to this relay however I'd check the stalk, motor and bonnet catch first. If they are all fine I'd say there's a very good chance its the relay. 👍
I took out this unit to inspect the pcb board before my new rely arrived. I didn’t see any issues on the board or with any of the connectors either (connectors were a bitch to get off). I decided to resolder the 10 joints anyway just to confirm there wasn’t any dry joints. Put the unit back in and to my surprise the fault has gone. This is only 1 day in after the fix so not 100% confirmed fix yet. I’ll reply to this in time if the issue hasn’t gone but I think my fix has worked.
Awesome video. Very informative
Glad it was helpful!
Good day dave love the video especially all the torque settings not many people will do that, cheers keep them coming
Thanks 👍
Hi Dave would you do my cam belt on my 1.6tdi polo?
Sorry mate, not looking to take anything else on atm.
Great video. Just what I needed. What timing kit did you use? Where could I purchase one?
Dayco is the brand of the kit. I think it came from CarPartsfor less. Thanks!
great video. thanks for sharing
Hi Dave, great video lots to film and do, l have the same model Golf as this Please may l ask at what mileage was the car when you did this change and why? Was the old cambelt in bad worn condition when removed? Any information will help me determine when to do mine, as only 56,300 on at present. However age may play a part in my decision, even though low mileage at present
Hi Colin, this car is on approx 180k the owner had no history so decided to be safe. There wasn't any real signs of wear but I did notice the waterpump was quite corroded. I guess it all depends on the conditions the rubber belt is exposed to, I've seen 40k 7 year old cars with badly deteriorated belts and others look as new. Personally on my own vehicles I assess them and change on condition. It's worth taking the cover off and checking it out. 👍
Thank you David, sounds like good advice . Continental say their belts are good for 100,000 but as you quite rightly point out depends on what the rubber is exposed to. Or if any of the idler rollers seize that tension and guide the belt. @@autotekuk
