Hey man, so YT keeps on shadow-banning my response to you for some reason so I’ll just post it here: My bad for not replying to this sooner, for some reason it didn’t send me the notification. But in all fairness, I could’ve been more specific with some of my points. I was just trying to get the general gist of One Piece’s largest flaws out there. Starting off, my rinse and repeat comment still stands. Alabasta and Dressrosa was just one example, but they are objectively very similar storylines. You are highlighting the differences that I acknowledge exist (why I didn’t say the arcs were identical) while also putting aside the clear and blunt similarities. The crew arrives to a seemingly nice and distinct area in the world, and through controlling and publicly fake Warlord-antagonists, they end up saving the areas’ people and kingdoms from these tyrannical rulers. There are of course fundamental differences, but the blue-prints of the arcs are completely repackaged, at least in concept. And in execution, they play out extremely similarly as well. And I really don’t think pointing out a legitimate flaw (or at least a massive gripe) in the story is a lazy argument. This type of structure can be applied VERY similarly to Fishman Island snd even Wano to some extent. Side-characters are also often repackaged, a reason why Shirahoshi and Rebecca feel so blatantly rehashed from Vivi, clearly in Oda’s intent to be fair. Moving on to character development, again I was just getting the point across. You say Luffy changed from this care-free and reckless guy to someone who understands his limits and strives to get stronger, but how is this not a stagnant change. It isn’t consistent growth in the slightest. Coming straight after an already weak catalyst based off execution alone (Ace’s death), Luffy has his “realization moment” in the forest with Jinbei. You might contest with this but it comes very sudden, and the terrible pacing only makes it worth to go through. Another major point I’d like to express is this: how much are changes like these worth is they are not correctly handled and showcased by the author regularly? If you look at a random panel from before and after the time skip, I’d dare you to seriously say that these differences in Luffy would be even remotely visible. Even if you say his mindset changed, if it isn’t properly shown then can you really call it legitimately good development? I’ve argued with others on this and they often bring up subtlety as a concept, yet padding out character exploration with gags and things such as that (that I’ll address later isn’t remotely subtle at all. There’s not subtext to things not even related to what should’ve been explored first-hand. As far as the other characters go, I’d say it’s worse. I will repeat this point: characters such as Robin and Usopp really have not developed much at all since their backstories. I can’t break down every character unfortunately (typing this on my phone lol) but let’s look at Robin. Her arc in Enies Lobby is arguably the best stretch in the show. But what happens after that? Nothing. This is arguably the greatest gripe I have with One Piece: characters become caricatures of themselves. Robin’s arc had been leading up to her backstory reveal in Water 7, and yet after that, she became the blue print of what her character was prior. Motherly, reserved, so on and so forth. Zero changes in dynamics with any of the other crew members, zero real internal conflicts, I think you get it. If you want to call it consistency then go ahead, I’d say it’s extremely lazy writing. When referring to sob backstories I was more so referring to the dozens the god-awful side character backstories we got. How can you seriously defend Rebecca’s, Senor Pink’s, or Queen Otohime’s backstories lmao. Their themes aren't portrayed even remotely realistically (parenting, love, authority) and they all pretty much end in random tragedy that didn’t have properly emotional build-up. Saying gags encapsulate the show’s charm is a pretty meaningless claim, it doesn’t touch on any sort of substance and as you said at the end is just insanely general of a claim to make. Sanji’s simping, Zoro’s lack of direction, Luffy’s stupidity and hunger. There is quite literally no benefit to these and only serve as filler to pad out characters’ screen time when they are in the heat of things and Oda doesn’t know what to do with them. How am I ignoring complex moments (that I’d argue aren’t all that complex, although that’s more subjective) by noting gags that take up an insane amount of screen time for each individual character and the story as a whole? A clear example of a dropped storyline would be the living Merry in Water 7. On top of already forced emotional “depth” (although we could probably spin in circles arguing in that subject to be fair lol) Oda introduces a wild new concept into the story that even fans have a hard time covering due to its unnecessary vagueness and the fact it isn’t brought up again after the arc. People like to lament OP’s greatness by saying how it was able to make them emotional watching a boat burn, but tears flowing and sentimental music don’t equate to actual emotional weight, that’s nonsensical and ignores all signs of execution. All for nothing. You seemingly deflected by point by separating the issue from the piece it was being applied to. Pacing issues are not a given with long stories. JoJo? The Sopranos? Like dozens of other pieces of media across centuries? And bad pacing can absolutely contribute to storytelling, throughout its run OP has shown that. If you want to view my entire argument through a lens and come to the conclusion my points lay on the basis of “I didn’t like it, so it’s bad” then absolutely you can do that, just want to remind you how wrong that is.

@@Peak-Editzs you’re complaining that Alabasta and Dressrosa are too similar? Newsflash, most long-running stories reuse structures-it’s called a framework. The devil’s in the details, genius. Alabasta was about rebellion and hidden manipulation with Crocodile running a country from the shadows. Dressrosa? That’s about slavery, personal vendettas, and mind control. Yeah, the Straw Hats save a kingdom both times, but the themes, stakes, and how the characters grow through these arcs? Completely different. It’s like saying two movies are the same just because both have a car chase. The execution is what makes them stand out. And then you drag Fishman Island and Wano into it like it’s the same rinse-and-repeat formula. Really? Fishman Island’s about deep-seated racism and an entire society’s trauma, while Wano is practically a samurai epic about overthrowing a fascist regime. You can’t boil them down to “oh, they save a country,” like that’s some kind of lazy writing. It’s thematic variety with a structure that keeps everything cohesive across a thousand episodes, not to mention the insane world-building that ties these arcs into the larger narrative. As for your complaints about Luffy’s “stagnant” character development, let me get this straight: you’re mad that his growth isn’t consistent enough? This guy went from reckless hothead to someone who learns his limits after Marineford. The point is, he doesn’t instantly change. Growth isn’t linear, it’s full of setbacks and realizations. That “moment” with Jinbei wasn’t forced-it was a culmination of him learning to carry the weight of his failures. If you expect every character arc to be perfectly smooth, you’ve missed the entire point of nuanced development. Luffy evolves, but he’s still himself at the core, and that’s the consistency that keeps him relatable. Then you pull out Robin and Usopp as if they’ve done nothing since their big backstory reveals. Robin’s entire arc wasn’t just about her trauma in Enies Lobby; it was about finding a family she can trust. The fact that she’s now a more integrated, quieter presence shows her evolution from isolation to trust. If she was constantly brooding, you’d be here whining about her being one-note. And Usopp? The dude goes from a cowardly liar to someone who stands up when it counts-just look at his role in Dressrosa. They’ve grown, you’re just too focused on their old scars to see it. As for your beef with the Merry in Water 7 being a “dropped storyline,” give me a break. The Merry’s farewell was an emotional gut-punch because it represented the end of an era for the crew. It wasn’t some random, unimportant side plot-it was the emotional core of the arc, showing how far the crew had come and how much they’d lost. If you think tears and sentimental music don’t carry emotional weight, that’s your problem, not the writing’s. Your pacing complaint? Sure, One Piece drags at times, but that’s part of its style. Long-running anime like JoJo or even The Sopranos had pacing issues, but no one’s throwing them out because of it. Bad pacing in moments doesn’t erase the depth of the story or the character growth that builds over time. You act like pacing issues invalidate the whole series when they’re just a side effect of telling a massive, sprawling epic. And don’t even get me started on the “sob stories” you mention. Senor Pink, Rebecca, Queen Otohime-yeah, they’re tragic, but they’re also crucial to explaining these characters’ motivations. If you think tragedy equals lazy writing, then maybe you’re the one missing the point. Oda’s always used backstory to show why people are the way they are, and the emotional beats only fail if you don’t buy into the story, which clearly you don’t. So yeah, if you want to sit there and say “I didn’t like it, so it’s bad,” be my guest. Just don’t expect me to take it seriously when you can’t recognize the layers and depth Oda’s built over decades I read like 80% of what you said

I plan on making it immersive (wildlife) similar to Red Dead Redemption 2. Here is a sneak peek featuring crabs. They will take food the player drops and then eat it. It is currently taking a long time for the crabs to grab the food because they are assessing whether the food is appealing to them.
