EP1: WELCOME TO SOUTH KOREA! | FM24: The Pacific Pursuit - Ulsan Hyundai
A tale of two legs, this one, the first with all the goals but no glory, the second with just the one goal but all the glory to show for it as we wrap up our time in Asia. 3 trophies down, 4 to go, it's been a pleasure, our time in Japan, Australia and Korea, but now it's time to take on South America!
Revenge completed. I thought it was gonna be one of those games in the second leg but we turned that bus right round and it's time to face our destiny in the first ever top-level final in challenge history. Come on Ulsan!
My dear friend, where to download sth to have AFC Champions league two and other international asian tournaments? I want to manage a Vietnam side and the winner of the league doesnt go anywhere XD not even qualifications
The Asian Champions League Two has a different name in game, and I’m not sure if the Vietnamese League is in the game (unless you have a mod for it, which must mean it’s not been done correctly, because I have played against Vietnamese teams in the ACL2 before) Join my discord.gg/2nQUpYUh4W and we can help you out there!
I'd take a snooze-fest that sees us through to the next round over a goal-fest that sees us knocked out.
All that matters is that we are through, and hopefully we keep on in this competition…
This team really does know how to turn up right in the nick of time! What a goal-fest we had today, just what the doctor ordered!
Exactly the performance we need if we want to be a team challenging for that title!
The team didn't turn up today, but we still did enough to shove it over the line. What an effort from Kim to seal the deal, now we just have to turn up in those last two group games
Two trophies won, but the main one still not ours. On we go...
Dial number nine, it's been a long time since we've heard that battle call! We stand on the precipice of a domestic double, let's go get it!
The man for the double, let's see if we can get it wrapped up!
We remain undefeated! What an effort from the lads, 3 goals in 10 minutes to completely turn that game on it's head, I don't think I've ever heard of a team that's gone undefeated but not won the league.
It would be crazy if one of the other teams beat us undefeated. I believe it’s on, though.
A league or cup title would be great, but as long as we're qualifying for the Champions League it really doesn't matter. I reckon what we did at Tromso was a treble and this would be a similar situation.
It would always be nice to say we left with a Champions League… and some other trophies
A hero's welcome back in Ulsan for you, just a shame the boys couldn't deliver the performance the Asian Cup winning manager deserves.
You can’t win them all, I guess 🤷
2 down, 5 to go! Incredible to win the Asian Cup on your first ever try, and with a team that's not won it since the year Syngman Rhee was deposed. South Korea hosted it then too.
An impressive win, they deserved to win it, finally!
Well... That was easy. A good draw for us and having Japan out is a big boost. I feel confident over China and think how poetic it would be for us to beat our former nation Australia in the final.
An interesting draw lined up, hopefully the win ends with us…
A soft landing in international management! Ulsan would be crazy to fire you, you've done so well as manager since taking the job even if you're yet to win anything.
Nice way to start in the job. Focus is with them, whatever happens at Ulsan, happens
No idea why your players are mad at you. You put them in the position to win a trophy and they didn't turn up. If anything they should be apologising to you.
Only so much the manager can do at the end of the day…
Welcome to international management! Won't be able to do it for much longer so let's make the most of it while we're here! The team was really struggling with depth so I'm glad to see some nice new signings.
It’s good to get a foot in international management! Hopefully we can go and have great success there
Back to our regularly scheduled winning? In my opinion even if a player is a great player, if they don't have that mentality they don't deserve a spot in the team, so Igarashi better shape himself up!
You would hope that is the case. Maybe it is time for Igarashi to go?
In the end our objective isn't the league, it's qualification for the Asian Champions League, but even still we're just about keeping one hand on that trophy.
We take both if we can get them, let's see what we can come up with the rest of the season ahead...
Heartbreak... But at the same time, think how long it took us to make the quarters at Shakhtar or Tromso.
Part of the process, small setback, major comeback...
FM manages the Saudi league so poorly. I hope in FM25 they model it better, but in the meantime if they want to throw their careers away for oil money, who are we to stop them? Not convincing in the first leg but a good comeback from the boys.
Wish I could be the one to keep them but if not, guess we have to show them the door..
Scraping through to the next phase, really not a good enough showing from the team but what a goal to equalise at the death. We'll need to improve for the knockouts.
Atleast we are there, improvements needed but experience to be gained at the same time
Bit of a bad goal to let in at the end, it should've been 6 points but we still open up an early lead in the ACL group stages. Let's go get it!
Could've been worse, could be out, but here we stay!
Just came straight from last episode to this episode and... Yikes, two polar opposites, did we take all the goals from those games and put them into that one FA Cup game? Depth is important for a team like ours, but the Korean rules do make it difficult. Glad to at least see an uptick in form in the second game
Lots of factors to consider, let's see how we can improve going forward...
Some stats from this episode: Ulsan goals scored: 17 Ulsan goals against: 0 Minutes played: 180 Average minutes per goal: 10.59 Insane
Quite the numbers I see, 10.59 minutes must be some sort of record
Happy birthday MattovFM! I've had the pleasure of watching all of the Corners of Europe and now into the Pacific Pursuit, it's been a great watch and I really do get the feeling this channel will become something special. It's created some special moments and some great memories, now here's to the next year!
Your support doesn't go unnoticed - on we go!
Mattov, do you play with hidden or revealed attributes? what are your recruiting focus for scouts? maybe you could record an episode on how you look for players :)
I play with attributes on, it makes sense because it’s the way scouts provide info to us. I don’t do much with the scouts, although I do like to sometimes set them to find players from the continental competitions (e.g. UCL, Asian CL) because it brings up experienced players who have played in that competition. I also use it sometimes to find players for domestic rules. Join the discord.gg/2nQUpYUh4W and we can discuss this more!
Made it through Christmas! Some poor results recently, yet we still are in a position to clinch the K-League title. The quality of this team is there for everyone to see.
Not a bad first attempt at the title, let’s see if we can go and complete the job…
A clean sweep of every team we came up against in the AFC 2, moving to Melbourne was definetly the right decision and we've got the silverware to show it. A champion's performance today. Excited to see where we go next to tackle the premier trophy of asian football, will it be China, Korea, back to Japan?
1/7 done, time to move... back near one of our former countries...?
Utter domination. It's been a bit of a cruise to the AFC 2 final and the decision to come to Melbourne really is paying off. Let's go complete the first part of our challenge!
What a performance, quite the spectacle. The final awaits!
They don't half make the stages confusing but slowly and surely we're making the rise. Surely soon one of these finals will be the grand final?
Maybe just 2 games is what separates us from the final...?
That insane goal got me up out of my seat cheering like I was in the stands myself, what an incredible moment to win us the... Still not sure what to call it, but to win it for us, against our derby rivals, that's what football is all about!
No feeling like winning a derby day like that, if I wasn't on camera, I'd be charging around the place!
Easy qualification, whoever we draw in the semifinal should be quaking in their boots as the Victory rolls into town!
That's the spirit, could it be the Melbourne City?
What a statement of intent in the AFC 2! I love that you brought Broxham back, I have Vardy as my assistant manager in my save at Leicester and club legends really do feel like they deserve the job. Some exciting signings in terms of players too, especially Kraev. Insane that the Phoenix let him go.
Broxham a legend, Kraev the goat, on we go for the title!
What a final few games! Insane that they managed to come back twice in extra time, but it's our goal difference that sees us through. Onwards and upwards!
That's how we do it! Onto the AFC CL2!
That tie was harsh, we deserved more than a point from that game there. Maybe coming to the Victory was the wrong decision, but maybe it'll pay off, only time will tell.
A tough day's work, nothing to regret yet though. Onto an interesting final few games...
What a comeback! Some of the western teams have some terrible away days in Australia, it's the size of the mainland US but most people don't realise that. None worse than Wellington, though, who're actually a New Zealand club that have to fly at least 4 hours for every away day.
A crash back down to reality it seems, but perseverance and hard work from the squad will see us through. We know what they're capable of.
Not too long down here shall we stay, onto the next few days of the season...
Well what a way to introduce yourself to the Victory faithful! If this team carries on like this, it's surely the team to carry us to the AFC 2 title!
One of the biggest wins the channel has ever seen! On we go, hopefully a sign of things to come...
Sayonara, Nagoya, G'day, Melbourne, hopefully we can say that next episode! Perhaps Nagoya are at their ceiling, at least for right now, and I certainly think it's time to move on. Maybe we'll be back to Japan later in the challenge but it'll be great to head down under!
Is it Melbourne next? Maybe not even the A-League. Who knows?
A pair of disappointing collapses today. We showed spirit in trying for the comeback against Verdy but perhaps it's time to say sayonara, at least for now, to Japan and g'day to Australia?
Decisions, decisions, where in Asia next?
Shimizu S-Pulse may be a J2 team but they're a very strong one. I managed them before and won the Emperor's Cup in my first season. Beating them 5-0 is a major feat.
5-0 Away I must say. Not the worst result.
Our quest is to avoid relegation, we begin it by going top of the table. Certainly a statement of intent.
J League defenders have nightmares about Nakashima, pass it on
Home advantage certainly helped us out but you can't argue we didn't deserve the win in that final, looking at the numbers. It's sayonara and arigato to King Kazu and to J2 and it's konichiwa to J1, but will it be Nagoya Grampus or another team that carries us onto Japanese glory? Regardless, I think we've met some faces who deserve to be there with us.
What a season, it had its ups and downs, onto the J1...
Promotion through the playoffs is still promotion and that was our objective. It's time for the squad to show it's strength in both their football and mentality, finish the job and give King Kazu the sendoff he deserves!
It’s going to be an interesting set of games, let’s see how we go…
Nakashima is evidently becoming crucial to this team but it's King Kazu the hero today. It wasn't enough but it just goes to show how we never stop fighting even when the opposition are better than us. I very much like the webcam border, it makes it look clean and professional.
The young gen learning from the old, no wonder so many goals from the two...
Comeback wins are the best! I believe winning the cup would get us into the AFC Champions League next season, that'd be great even just to get the experience.
A great day's work, can we go all the way?
What badges and playing experience did you start with?
The best you can get, by the time I’d move club I could probably have had all my badges just from asking for them + I think it’s quite reasonable in the J2 League. Maybe if we had gone to a smaller club we would’ve started with less. I‘be found it doesn’t make a lot of difference to what you do.
Some exciting transfers coming into the club! I reckon Nakashima is the one for us but Yamada could also easily earn a spot in the team and King Kazu's experience should have him nailed on until he retires, it's what the younger players need.
Building a good team for a tough campaign, on we go to it...
The wisdom of age meets the energy of youth, Nakashima looks like he'll be a real talent for us, and I'm sure there's plenty he can learn from the one and only King Kazu.
36 years between them and all the potential to do well, who knows where it will go...
No Tom to go in goal for old times' sake. The J2 squad rules can be pretty brutal (only 4 foreign players, yikes) so I often find the youth system is a good thing to lean on in Japan, even if it's just for depth. When you get to a bigger club in Japan, it might also be worth scouting Europe a bit to see if you can bring some Japanese talent back home, think the likes of Mitoma, Endo etc.
I wish we had Tom in these team, but maybe we can find our own Japanese version of the great striker...
The best part of the Corners of Europe was always that it brought us to some of the less visited parts of the world and this challenge looks to take that and turn it up to 11. Asia and South America are two of the most populated continents on the planet but they seem to be ignored in the modern game, even though some of the biggest names in the game come from there, the likes of Neymar, Messi, Son Heung-Min. I've always been a sucker for non-European football and I can't wait to see where this challenge brings us!
Time for a new challenge in the Pacific, let's see what it brings...
