Is the metropolix triggering the Atlantis? and whats that awesome reverb pedal/module ??? Great Video - Cheers
Sounds great. What are you using for drums?
Excellent 🙌🏻
hi dan, where does quadrax out2 go?
Yo. That's going to the Atlantis Ext In. as a wavetable oscillator. That part of the Quadrax is in LFO mode and I'm clocking it with the squarewave sub oscillator of the Atlantis going into Trig2, so the LFO is being clocked at the same rate as the sub oscillator. When doing this the Rise knob is basically a multiplier to the right and a divider to the left which lets you offset the oscillator by different ratios, the Shape and Fall knobs change the waveshape of the oscillator. You can hear it from around 25:00
When you mix the Quadrax oscillator like that with the Atlantis oscillators and mess with the ratios it makes what I like to call an Intellijel Subharmonicon :)
@@danwimperis5273 thank you for your time

Thanks bud. Loving your tracks, Atom B is top notch!
anybody spotted the tiny spider at very beginning of the video? it comes out from the noise fader then moves on to the level port. hAd to watch two times just to make sure it's not on my screen. that module sounds great btw!
Perfect, such a calming experience listening. Love it.
From Intellijel: Yeah that's a pretty cool trick! It's obviously not an intended use of the jacks, so it's not something we can recommend, but it sounds like it shouldn't be harmful. Apparently it's essentially passive mixing DC offset from the filter with the VCF output to cause op amp clipping.
liking this very much

at 52mins, wow. What are these voices/patches? can you give a brief overview? thanks or the vid
Thanks bud, yeah I like that bit myself :) The drums are done on the Digitakt, just bringing in and out different parts of the drum sequence as and when. They're going through the mimeophon which is having loads of sample and hold chucked at it for some very light delay wierdness that fills the gaps. The melody is the Atlantis doing the meowing style voice being sequenced by the Metroplix. The Metropolix is being modulated by an LFO to move the notes it chooses to play around and it also has probability on all the notes so that each time around the sequence is slightly different, giving it the singing style. The voice is mainly just finding the sweet spot of the filter on the Atlantis and riding that. The chords are me playing the Novation Peak with my keyboard. That's got a long sounding patch with loads of release and reverb so that I can play a chord, hold down the sustain pedal and just let it ring out while I go back to messing about with the modular and the Digitakt.
What do you use for reverb?
It’s the ol’ classic clouds :)
@@danwimperis5273 thinking between variegated 8+ and metrapolix... would you say it’s intuitive to use?
@@Vadlife ah nice. I’d say it’s pretty intuitive cos it’s pretty quick to get good stuff out of it, once you use one or two features like accumulate and probability it’s already creating tasty stuff. There’s a lot to it that you can learn and use for patches (mod lanes, cv input, the two assignable knobs etc) but it’s pretty easy to run, the menus and how you get about it when playing is all really well designed, stops it from being menu divey. I’ve never used the varigate, they look great with all the probability stuff. I used to clock my metropolis with a Euclidean circles to get non-formulaic rhythms and sequences, but since getting the metropolix I haven’t found the need to clock it from anything but just a straight clock source.
It sounds so heavy ! Nice !
This is frigging incredible
This was solid! Definitely thinking more about one after seeing what it can do - seems super jammable!
Magneto is getting more and more needed in my rack...
wicked, ill be getting one soon myself. Thanks for showing its capabilities. I always prefer sound only videos on synths. Perfect!
Hey, thanks for all that ! My Metropolix is on the go, I can't wait to mess with it. IIf I have understood correctly, you are sequencing the Atlantis main oscillator and the LFO separately ? Or is there another module involved ?
Ah brill! You’re gunna love it. Make sure you hit record as soon as you turn it on. Kinda gutted I didn’t get the end of this stream properly recorded. Yeah, the Atlantis is being sequenced by metropolix and metropolix has the pitch pre being modulated by an LFO from the Quadrax which is moving the note of the sequence about to give some variety to the melody for the last 20 minutes. I’m also modulating the filter cutoff of Atlantis with one of the cv lanes in the metropolix which is one of me favourite features of the metropolix, let’s you find the sweet spot of each note.
thank you - never tried! ill run it from my bass bot!
Most important demo of this module. Thank you!
great tip! connecting 2 output..
Wow that sounds awesome! Excellent work!
Would love a bit of info on the patch and modules used
Hey dude, yeah happy to run through it. Drums: All the drums are coming from the Digitakt which is running a few different patterns I wrote before the mix, they’ve got a load of oddly timed retriggers for all the staggered hihats timing stuff. There’s some randomisation going on with sample selection and just general probability of firing all the triggers, which gives space for the retrigs to keep firing without getting stopped by the next trig. I reduce the overall probability of all the drums around the 12:45 mark, which gives a lot more space for the effects to work it’s wonder. The effects on the drums is all the mimeophon which is doing all the mad processing and feedback business, there’s a load of modulation being thrown at the mimeophon to give it all the variation. The dry un-mimeophoned drums are being split off into a channel on maths which is creating an envelope that follows the drums. This envelope is changing shape with various LFOs going into the fall time input, and that envelope is being sent to Repeats and micro timing on the mimeophon. The end of rise trigger of maths is triggering the sample and hold which gives all the animation to the mimeophon rate, halo and colour inputs. Bass: Metropolis sequencing Atlantis being sent into Magneto. A couple of interesting bits, around 22:30 I send the clock through a VCA that being effected by a slow lfo to open and close the VCA and only send clocks to the Metropolis when the LFO is high, gives the intermittent sequences. Around 39:00 I send the sawtooth to the filter mod, set the filter to track 1v/oct and with a fairly resonant filter this makes for some lovely thick bass tones that hold up even on really low notes. The filter does need a bit of tuning by ear for that one but it makes for some lovely tones. Mix a bit of sin in as well to add some low end to it. Chords/Drones: Rings into Clouds (Supercell) cos I’m a massive sell out! Let me know if there's any bits in particular that you're interested in and I can go into more detail.
@@danwimperis5273 RIGHT. That's a lot of things I have never tried or even know how to pull off. Would you be interested in showing me some of your techniques some day via a share screen/call ?

This is dope! So much variety from one modular system
I don’t understand what you did, but I love it. Some clarification would be appreciated tho 😆

Hi it’s Daniel Nice channel
More please. Liking the twinny arrow too x
Great jamming. Just ordered Atlantis myself. What's the module right next to it? Looking for ideas on other modules that would go well with it (I will also have Rings btw).
Cheers mate. Nice one for getting an Atlantis, it's a wonderful module, capable of making a HUGE variety of sounds. Here is my current setup... www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/view/597672 The module to the right of Atlantis is the Future Sound Systems TG4 Gristleizer, a really knarley VCA that provides super tasty distortion. I'm not using it in this patch but one thing I like to do is send the Atlantis raw waveforms into the Gristleizer and then send the heavily distorted output into the Atlantis filter input, gives some real tasty grit when the filter is opened up. Rings is cool, real nice when tuned right and sent as an external input into Atlantis. Check out Ring's easter eggs, Western Chords and Reverb mode are really interesting... www.infinitesimal.eu/modules/index.php/Mutable_Instruments_Rings The Strymon Magneto is real tasty too, the modulation options are a bit limited when compared to other modular delays but it is a great emulation of Tape and has a lovely sound that is really fun to play with. But, the most useful module I own is the Expert Sleepers ES8. It makes it super easy to integrate your modular with a computer, great for control and recording. If you're happy using a computer with your modular it is the number one module, just opens up so many options. Check out their Silent Way plug ins, real useful for creating pitch, gate and modulation CV on your DAW and integrating your modular with all digital bits. One mental thing is that the CVs Silent Way creates can be treated like audio. Volume = Volts. So you can apply effects in your DAW before they're sent to your modules. For example, applying an enveloper to a Pitch CV creates some weird and wonderful pitch flicks. Just realised this has turned into a bit of an essay.
@@danwimperis5273 It's fantastic, thank you for taking the time to write about your setup and your experience with the modules so far. Yeah, my setup has grown as well since I last wrote. Waiting for Maths, Verbos Harmonic Oscillator, Clouds, a bunch of utility modules. I really wanted to get ES-8 but just couldn't find it second-hand anywhere and since I already splashed out on a nice Audient soundcard with Adat I/O, I opted for ES-3 / ES-6 combo so I'll be expert sleeping my way into modular as well :) So, you're using the computer for cv generation mainly / mangling and sending audio to the modular? Have you done any roud trips, i.e. sending audio to computer and back into modular? How's the latency in general? Noticeable? Looking forward to more videos. I hope I'll create some of my own as well when I'll get my eurorack up-and-running. Still waiting for power module...ordered EOWave Source D'Energie because I found it really discounted online and didn't read any negative things about it. No issues with Tiptop uZeus I gather? I have also been thinking of getting a VCA or a Mixer that can go into an overdriven territory...Xaoc Tallin or CP3 mixer, or something else. Will check out FSS unit that you have. Still undecided as to my delay/looper unit...Magneto, Morphagene, 4MS DLD, Chronoblobs, all look tasty! haha
Ooh yeah, maths is mega, just got one myself and it has opened up so many possibilities. I haven't gone down the Clouds route yet, but Supercell by Grayscale looks very interesting. grayscale.info/supercell/ Basically Clouds with more modulation options and less menu diving. I'm mainly just using the computer for CV generation and CV mangling with the DAW audio effects, I've not actually tried sending audio from my computer into the modular. I've done round trips outputting CV through the ES8 and recording the audio from the modular and their's a tiny bit of latency, as with all AD conversion, but it's really low latency when compared to other AD converters. It's pretty much unnoticable when using Low Latency mode in Ableton or Logic, so that's how I write and record stuff now. The uZeus works great, no problems with hum or noise at all so far so I guess it's doing it's job, haven't looked at the EOWave Source D'Energie yet. I've just got the Intellijel Quad VCA which can be used as a mixer and it can overdrive signal too which sounds like this... ruclips.net/video/izhjGNucGeE/видео.html It sounds like Aphex is driving the 4 Atlantis' through the Quad VCA cos that's the character it gives to the sound. The CP3 Mixer has been tickling my ear balls for a while, good range of character on that one. Regarding delay, the Magneto is great, but I do think there are a lot more flexible delay units out there, like the 4MS DLD. Also, it's very easy to spot the Magneto sound, if you know what I mean, kinda hard to make it not sound like the Magneto, so if the sound suits what you make then great, but if not then I'd look at other delay options. The 4MS DLD and Chronoblob are great for getting into super short delay times, almost getting into granular territory. Chronoblob seems to have more character than the 4MS DLD, which could be a good or a bad thing, really depends on what you'll be using your delay for. And then the Morphagene is just another world of options!
@@danwimperis5273 Man, I keep coming back to our exchange here...now I find myself looking at the Future Sound Systems TG4 Gristleizer...I think I'm just super fond of gnarly saturated sounds...fewer sounds in a track but each quite distinct and saturated. I have Sherman Filterbank standalone and it gets into a similar distorted territory..but I'm lusting after something in the eurorack space...maybe TG3/TG4 or Plague Bearer? BTW what do you think of TG3 vs TG4? what made you choose the TG4? Another characterful VCA I've been looking at is XAOC Tallin, which has two distortion modes. The thing with this one though, which I don't hear in TG4 demos, is that when it distorts it sounds clipped in a bad way sometimes, TG4, on the other hand, seems to become richer and never gets that digital sort of clipping. Dunno. I can recommend the CP3 mixer...it's quite a bit different beat to the above modules...but it adds this tingling shiny buzz or sheen very synonymous with the Moog synths sound. It mainly saturates the high frequencies in a very pleasant way, which in itself is rather unique. Still haven't got any delay module...torn between Echophon, DLD and Chronoblob (which is v difficult to get hold off atm). I have a Disting mk4 to do some delay duties for now and a bunch of delay guitar pedals, so I'm kinda ok I guess? I might go for the Echophon though as it's unique and has a gritty lofi sound a pitch shifter+ a feedback loop and a clockable rate. How is your journey going? Have you picked up any new modules, mate? Best
@@piotr803 Hey mate, haven't been on here in ages so thought I'd surprise you with a quick example video of the Future Sound Systems TG4 Gristleizer ruclips.net/video/6Zq5N-dvdN0/видео.html I haven't tried out the TG3, will give it a go soon though cos the FSS guys are based just down the road from me. By the way they are super helpful, the bias control on my TG4 was playing up a bit and they sorted it out for me straight away by replacing one of the transistors or some magical electronics wizardry that I have no comprehension of. Yeah, great guys, really friendly and helpful. Yeah, from my experience of using the TG4 it always outputs super tasty distortion, I think the TG4 is all analogue (don't quote me on that) but it makes any digital clipping sounds, just lovely analogue warmth and mad tones. With regards to delays the Ecophon sounds amazing and can make some interesting sounds when patched up right. I just wish they did another colab with Tom Erbe to put the Soundhack Bubbler into a module, but I guess you can get similar stuff from other ganular units. Yeah, my modular journey is going well, got myself a Metropolis for some live electro style sequencing business which is serving me very very well, that thing is great for quickly writing mad baselines and melodies live. Also, got the Shakmat Time Wizard on clocking duties. Got an Onde Magnetique on pre-order too which might make me got full BoC! I’m very tempted to hold off on releasing my next album so I have time to faff about with the OM-1 and make some tasty layers. How’s your modular adventure going? What noises have you been making?
Wow. Almost circuit bending it.
Really nice improv! What keyboard are you using?
Cheers dude. The keyboard is a Studiologic SL 990 Pro. It's a great keyboard with hammer action keys which give it a really nice velocity response and it feels like a piano when playing it. I'm not using any velocity to control the sounds in this performance.
