Why is a ladybug called that? A ladybug is a predatory beetle with red elytra and black spots. It hunts aphids. First of all, the origin of the name "ladybug" is connected to the fact that this beetle can secrete a special fluid, similar to milk, but orange in color. This fluid is released when the beetle is in danger, from special openings at the bends of its legs. The orange "milk" is very unpleasant to taste, and in large doses, it can even be lethal. It serves to ward off predators. The bright coloration also serves the same purpose, signaling that this winged beetle is inedible. And why is it called a "ladybug"? This is due to its ability to destroy aphids. In this way, ladybugs help protect crops, thereby saving people from hunger.
