I’ve been through this several times. There is also a go around that is hilly and rooted, but very doable. This is part of the Mid-State Adv trail (and a few other dualsport routes). GPX dukes are available on AdvRider forums. I think this is in the vicinity of Ashburnham. Not sure of the ‘street’ name.
@@themuselodge what’s your reasoning? They are basically the same price where I am and insurance is 4 bucks a month difference. Why not have an extra 30 or 40 Hp
with extra horsepower comes extra weight and bulk. The 650 is more nimble, is a better fit, ergonomically for me personally, and has all the horsepower I need to do what I want to do. Among my rider friends, the 650 is also overwhelmingly more popular. It’s just a personal choice. Get whatever one you want, obviously.
Just did this one today in my Daihatsu HiJet 4wd w/difflock. I only have 24" tires and it was definitely as nasty as I'd ever want to do in this little minitruck😱
I tried this last fall (23) on a DR650.. water was deep and running fast across the road, had to turn around.. I was solo - maybe if i had others with me I might have attemped...
I was solo on a DR650 as well. My GoPro failed on my first attempt, so I went back through it several times ‘for documentary purposes’, lol. I had just come down the steep hill to get to it, and didn’t feel like going back up. It was starting to get late and raining. Going back up the hill would have been the wrong direction home. This is the only time I have been there. I would imagine it gets both worse and better at times.
No diesels here. If I ran a hose from the kitchen a door or window would have to be left open the whole time. That would be fine when temps are not freezing or below, as in this video. I don’t need or use a pressure washer in warm weather, just a garden hose. Not feeling the need to buy another machine, just to wash my bike. My tiny garage is already full. On a related note, I’ve used a hairdryer before, to dry it off, but in my experience not needed. Simple is better, quicker, more efficient first me. Your mileage may vary.
Thanks for watching. ‘Not’ wiping the lense adds to the realism, in my opinion. Too busy holding on for dear life. It wasn’t a sightseeing trip after all, lol. My helmet windshield didn’t get wiped much either. Also, high beams were not a good option, because of the white out conditions. That just lit up the falling snow, rather than the surface snow.
Now that I have the DRz and I'm going to be done setting it up one of these days 🤔... This is what I'm going to be exploring around to find and link together.
Moreso on weekends rather than weekdays or early eves (when I typically go). It’s nice that riding is allowed at all and that so many can take advantage of it. 🤷🏻♂️🍻
@@getlost.followme.6637 I've been told by local police that whole area is illegal for any motorized vehicles, yet there's tons of people running out there.
Whats the thoughts of adding a lead like on a boat for water skis to the back of the bike? then he can snag some speed whenever he wants, what could go wrong!
We are at a similar pace on certain trails. The trick is finding those kinds of trails … with all the various trails I know, it’s pretty easy to find offsetting compromises for each of us.
I’ve only been once, but I suspect the washouts vary from season to season and year to year. It is not a very big section but in maintained road, but definitely worth exploring if you are in the area.
Thanks. Enjoy. I did portions of a parallel route to Westerly, RI - a new connector route to the NEBDR. I’ve also enjoyed the Puppy to beaches route several times, including the middle of the winter. Cheers, mate.
I’m registered off-road in MA. I have only ever had one issue with EPA, and they were very friendly about it. It helped that I have the off-road registration in that case. I’m pretty stealthy and don’t tend to go the same ‘non standard’ places repeatedly, often just once, simply to see what’s there. I also don’t share certain specific locations, such as this one, for example.
Thank you just wondering Because I get paranoid about riding so I tend to keep it a coupledowm times a month in "non standard" as I have never had an experience with the epa but im always scared of one lol it makes me more comfortable to know someone has and there friendly
@@nickcraig2417 I do not suspect all are that friendly. I had more than a few things going in my favor on that encounter, including verbal permission from an official to ride on state property. Your mileage may vary. Don’t drop my name, lol. (As other have done, smh).
I keep expecting you to drive by my car parked at one of the gates, or even to see me hoofing it along these byways with my camera around my neck - New Boston Rd, Middle Rd, all of 'em - I love that place. It's my church.
Grew up wheelin in those woods daily!! Made many crossings along the Connecticut and Massachusetts borders. One access point at the end of Barkhamsted reservoir we called beer can ally. That was 40 years ago sadly nowadays off roading is either illegal or frowned upon making many old roads impassible from lack of use. I suspect because dumps and landfills started changing for appliances and tires and contractors waste many old pathways became free dumping grounds, because of this most now are being closed to all.
I have two DRs currently. The more I ride other bikes, the more I realize that the DR is such a good fit for me and my riding needs. Congrats in advance.
That's a cool spot. There's a trail that loops all the way around and comes back out at that first intersection. Goes up to the solar field, but that's a gnarly hill that I did not feel like testing. Also have to cross a couple of streams.
Heated grips on one of my two DRs and 7 volt battery operated gloves are definitely helpful. I’ve also ridden minus 4 degrees without any heated gear. Hippo hands are helpful as well.
The description given above us about as good as I can give, unfortunately. It is a gated road that is only open from approximately Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day every year, due to a change in hunting seasons. There are many other similar ‘temporarily opened gates’ in the area at the same tube of the year. Harding Hill Rd, Marsh Lane, fur example in the Rutland Prison Camp and Coldbrook area. Also many other parts of the state fur the same ‘ change in hunting season regulations’. There is no hunting on Sundays and after sunset, so that is the best time to go, but other days and times are possible and legal as well.

Great bike, deciding between 650 and 1000 rn
I personally would strongly prefer the 650. I’d like to get one someday.,

Studded tires
I don’t need them to have this kind of fun, but they’re certainly helpful on glare ice.
Hardwick is the next town over from me is this in a park or .
This video starts with Brook Rd, which I believe is in Hardwick. Other portions of the video are also in nearby towns.
Yes, Brook Rd (Moose Brook area) in Hardwick.

I turned around at the log. Plenty of other places to ride in the area. Discretion is the better part of valor, especially when riding solo. 😉🍻

Large zip ties work well for this too
Montague Rd has been a mud pit this entire year. Especially the dudleyville side.
I like it that way.🍻🐒
@getlost.followme.6637 Have you been out to Hardwick recently? Brook Road has an enormous washout on the Taylor Hill Road side. 5 feet deep ruts
Thanks I’ll try to make a point of checking it out. ASAP.
