Yarn over (Portuguese knitting style)
Просмотров 1396 месяцев назад
If you should come across a pattern that says "p, yo, k," then for the yarn over after the purl stitch just don't lift the working yarn above the right-hand needle to do the knit stitch. Leaving the working yarn in the "purl position" will automatically create a yarn over. If you should come across a pattern that says "k, yo, p," then after the knit stitch bring the working yarn down under the ...

I took Andrew Lang's version of this story from his Blue Fairy Book, published in 1889, and rewrote it in iambic pentameter. Back then, Little Red Riding Hood did not have a happy ending. Sorry.
The Rules of Spades (with simplified scoring)
Просмотров 3267 месяцев назад
Something I forgot to say (which I'm hoping is common sense) is that if more than one player doesn't have a card in the suit led and plays a spade, then the higher ranking spade wins the trick. The simplified scoring presented in this video differs from standard scoring in three ways: 1. In standard scoring, teams earn 10 points for each trick bid and also 1 point for each overbid (or "bag"). I...

Your SSK confuses me. Not that the steps aren't clear, but I don't know why you're calling it an SSK. You're showing a 1x1 cable (swapping stitch placement) followed by k2tog as far as I can see, and while that seems to result in a decrease I don't really understand you saying "now that's an ssk" at the end. Can you clarify for me?
@@Reepecheep The end result is identical to when you see patterns asking for an ssk, a left leaning decrease. It’s just a method that I personally find easier than the more typical way of doing an ssk where you “slip, slip, knit” like in this Andrea Wong video:

@@gschultz63 But in a traditional SSK the order of the stitches don't change right? So how could it produce an identical stitch?
Boy, that’s really hard to explain. With a normal ssk when you slip two stitches knit-wise onto the righthand needle, you’re doing the mirror image of the stitch swapping that I do. I then knit two together entering the two stitches from the left. With an ssk you’re basically doing the mirror image of that, knitting them together … backwards. I doubt that helps. To prove the result is the same, I guess you’ll just have to do it both ways and look very carefully at what you’re left with.
@@gschultz63 Fair enough! I'll give it a shot. Ty for trying! It helps, but I'm definitely not getting it. xD
Bless you!! Up and over bad! Down and through good! You have solved my difficulty with binding off with just one reinterpreted concept!
Thank you for the videos. Pausing to enumerate the steps and counting the stitches is very helpful. Waiting for more portuguese knitting techniques especially if they are from beginners like me!
Thank you for a very informative video
Very nice ❤
I am portuguese and knit and didn't know the portuguese knitting style.
I’ve read that it actually started in the Middle East, spread across Northern Africa into Spain and Portugal, and then from there to South America.
