No no you don't. Sure you can do paused reps but it's definitely not mandatory infact it's a different version of the exercise all together. Always the least informed with the most to say.

@@mikesteven1133If you want it to count in the USPA or USAPL you press on command (lower to just above chest, it CANNOT touch chest, PAUSE, until the press call is given again.. then you can lift like hell.. if either side of the bar lowers its a red light for that side, 2 red lights it’s a no lift. Now, doing a PR is obviously not competition but it’s still extremely beneficial to pause for a brief second at the bottom, still not touching your chest at all in any way.. and then pressing.. not saying a 2 second pause at the bottom, because you’re correct that’s a completely different variation of the bench press.. but BOUNCING off you chest is a no lift period.. stop what you’re doing, lower the weight and work on your form.. period
@@jacknicholas4689 so you're telling me if you want to compete in powerlifting you should train with the rules of powerlifting yeah no kidding and exactly where does it say he's training for powerlifting. He could be training for some sport that requires explosiveness unlikely but you don't know.
@@mikesteven1133As I said above, doing a PR is not competition, but proper form supersedes regardless of what “type” of training you’re doing. You are simply not getting the benefit of the lift by bouncing through the bottom stroke.. he’ll really understand when he bruises his sternum and can’t lift hard for a few weeks.. but to each their own

yea I agree, it doesn't really matter the weight what matters more is 3 RIR (or less) or above 7 RPE for the proper number of reps within hypotrophy zone 8-12... the weight is adjusted for this. trying to go heavy breaks down technique sub optimal for hypotrophy, no ego = gains.
