Great job Emily! God bless.
👏👏👏
I'm saddened to say it, but this performance is a monumental mistake.
The English version makes me cringe
You are right! This English version is very poor. There are English editions that appropriately capture the essence of the German text.
fascinating
I guess the soloists aren't trained operatic singers?
Name of pieces PL.adey
The passion is a concert piece, not opera. You're not supposed to act.
True, and also Bach never wrote any opera in his life
Notre Dame Called. They want their cathedral back.
Beautiful job Emily! Really enjoyed listening and I am so glad you shared this!
Que buena frase "Cambiar el mundo una nota a la vez".
Me alegro que te guste, Denis!
Where is the Aria So ist mein Jesus nun gefangen????
Mutilaron la obra. Fatal y horrorosa interpretación.
Thank you AUDoM for sharing this with us.
Brilliant performance! Thank you!
Beautiful performance. First time I heard in English which is more understandable. Thank you!
Absolutely love the idea! I only wish the entrance up the stage and to their places was more choreographed to match the rhythm of the music. And the ripieno choir should be bigger and more stoic as they are not part of the "crowd" of two choirs.
Very poor; come to the European tradition and hear the right&original Bach without BroadwayBadActing. Booooh
Bravo! Very emotional. Thank you!
Bravo! Very emotional. Thank you!
A moving and inspiring gift. Thank you
i quite like this despite the unpolished singing. It's a very human natural performance illuminating the text. Thanks for posting.
So this is how Germans hear the Passion. The Passion is so unnervingly sad and awesomely terrible at the same time.
Simply brilliant! I am so glad that Bach's masterpiece is still being performed and enjoyed in this contemporary age. This new remake, in English, with informal dress, and with creative staging cues truly makes me appreciate the 18th century classic in a whole new way.
This is a beautiful achievement by all the forces involved. The staging aspect is tactful and effective. At first I wondered at how informally everybody was dressed until I realized that they were representing the ordinary people involved, as is proper. There's nothing ordinary about how everybody memorized this very long work! Some of the singing was outstanding, especially that of the Evangelist and of Jesus. A friend put me on to this performance. He was looking for the Berlin Philharmonic's famous recent staging/performance of the work. I'm glad he found this one. Thank you to everybody!
A thoroughly enjoyable and accessible performance - gone are the middle-aged singers rooted in one spot, dressed in evening wear, singing German in opulent operatic tones. Instead the student singers, dressed in ordinary street clothes, move about and interact with each other. Their voices while unpolished are projected with conviction. Outstanding was the voice of David Ortiz, the Evangelist.
