    Slaves, in reverent fear of God submit yourselves to your masters, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh. For it is commendable if someone bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because they are conscious of God. But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God. To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. “He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth.” When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. “He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.” For “you were like sheep going astray,” but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls. Wives, in the same way submit yourselves to your own husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, when they see the purity and reverence of your lives. 1 Peter 2:18-25, 3:1-2

    This guy was 35 when he started his dehumanization . In a recent article at Ref21 Carl Trueman points out the uncomfortable reality that for Americans under the age of 35, "gay marriage is not even an issue." As much as I would like for that not to be true, it is inescapable. Trueman also observes that for those of his generation opposition to gay marriage usually has more to do with being weirded out (my own technical phrase) by homosexuality than zeal for biblical sexual ethics. The "generational divide," Trueman writes, "indicate clear challenges to come. The list of such is no doubt long but here are a few:

    It's strage that a christian would not want a christian nation. The muslim belives that his ideas is what's best for the world as well as the secularists. One can disagree Wolfes version but still agree that the true God speaks both to the church and to the civil magistrate and both are responsible to him WCF 23 and Belgic confession 36. "For that purpose he has placed the sword in the hands of the government, to punish evil people and protect the good. And being called in this manner to contribute to the advancement of a society that is pleasing to God, the civil rulers have the task, subject to God’s law, of removing every obstacle to the preaching of the gospel and to every aspect of divine worship."

    It's rather odd that so many thought Jesus had two natures. The Bible does not present him that way. His miracles were from the Father working in and through him. He never took credit for his miracles, but always deferred it to the Father. "Do not believe me unless I do the works of my Father. But if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father” (John 10:37-38). He was given the Holy Spirit without measure, so the Father worked through the Holy Spirit. The Kenosis theory is more accurate in that he left his divine attributes when he became a man. What was deity in Jesus? His identity as the Logos did not change in the Incarnation, so he was always deity. Now in his exalted state he has all attributes back again.

    Sorry, but “loving our enemies” does not preclude opposing them, in extreme situations, even forcefully. I don’t particularly like Wolfe’s prescription for what ails us, but at least he’s making one. Strange is not doing so. He doesn’t think we’re that bad off. I guess we’ll all find out. But I don’t give him much chance of being right.

    Unfortunately, Mrs. Strickland's presentation just reinforces the commonly held believe in evangelical churches that it is the husbands who are abusive to their wives, that evangelical wives are never responsible for abusing their husbands. The truth is that countless wives in churches daily emasculate their husbands, find fault with everything they do, shut them off from sex as a means of manipulation and control, run the husband down with terrible man-hating comments, lie to their pastors when the husband has had enough and exposes them, act toward their husband like their thoughts and positions are the only one worthy of discussion - the husband just needs to be quiet. Countless evangelical wives are constantly trying to beat their husband's God -ordained headship away from them so they can have it. It's always ok for the wife to completely lose it, screaming at the husband, having a meltdown whenever she isn't getting her way,etc. You want to talk about someone being an oppressor ? Millions of husbands in and outside the church are slowly dying inside because the come home after work every day to a bitchy, entitled, crazy woman. Keep up the good work, guest speakers !! Remember to never mention the guilt of evangelical wives for their sins.

    The most important book to read before seminary is a book on comparative mythology see where the stories really came from.. go read Psalm 104 and then read the almost word for word copy the Egyptian "hymn to aten" .. If you're going to give your life to something it might be wise to see it from all sides. Noah and Gilgamesh, Hercules and Samson, creation and the Sumerian enuma elish, book of Esther and the story is Ishtar and of course the dying and rising gods as well Osiris Odin Mithras Krishna innana Perseus Hercules Dionysus Attis theseus etc etc not history complex symbolic allegories

      On the contrary, read the works of biblical (OT) scholars like John Currid, Bruce Waltke, Doug Stuart, L. Michael Morales, etc. They've debunked the notion that the Bible is just another comparative mythological fable or similar. Indeed, they've even argued how radically polemical the Bible can be against the pagan world including pagan gods. For example, consider the ten plagues and what the God of the Bible was doing.

    • @4everseekingwisdom690
      @4everseekingwisdom690 7 месяцев назад

      @@pattube every one you just mentioned are evangelical scholars I believe John currid is still at RTS is he not? Of course they "debunked" the mythology angle they're die-hard Christians! Have you read James Tabor or Bart ehrman? Both incredibly respected biblical scholars and while I don't agree with everything they say they both absolutely back up the mythicized Bible.. You are engaging in confirmation bias my friend.. Only reading things that agree with your position.. I've read papers by the people you mentioned that supports your position have you done the same? One of the most dangerous things you can do when attempting to study something is go in with a set beliefs my friend.. these are the same people that say the "dying and rising God" supposition is false based solely the fact that these different cultures couldn't possibly have had contact with each other.. Here's several examples of borrowed mythology in the Bible..a very short list I can give you many more examples if you like 1) creation from the Sumerian enuma elish 2) Noah from numerous older flood Myths.. the summerian version is 1500 years older than Noah. the Hebrew version uses the summerian word for ark proving it was copied. this is in addition to numerous similarities.. summerian/akkadian/Babylonian versions all older. 3) in the Greek flood myth Zeus and Hermes go to earth in disguise to find a righteous person so they don't have to destroy it they find deucalion.. in the Bible the two gods are now two angels in disguise looking for a righteous man and they of course find lot destroying Sodom with fire. 4) Samson follows almost the same narrative as Hercules with the same obstacles where the Greek version favors 12 (labors) signifying the zodiac the Hebrew version favors 7 (7 bows 7 locks of hair etc) signifying the 7 planets of antiquity.. this is also why the menorah has 7 candles and was with 12 shewbreads jn the temple.. for the zodiac and the 7 planets.. this is also why there are 12 tribes, 12 judges, 12 prophets 12 imans in Islam 12 rishis in Hinduism and 12 apostles in fact whenever you see the number 12 it's an allegory for the zodiac but i digress.. 5) Moses shares many similarities with another famous leader the original baby in a basket sargon the great of akkad. 6) the book of Esther from the myth of Ishtar. the goddess Ishtar becomes Esther and the god Marduk becomes Mordecai.. 7) the Psalms can be traced to the ugaritic texts in fact many things in the Hebrew Bible can be traced to them and I'd recommend "the ugaritic texts and the Bible" by Jerry Neal which while not written for a lay person is still easily followed and provides a more detailed analysis of how we know that much is the Bible comes directly from ugaritic mythology including the origin of the god El the head of Canaanite pantheon who the Jews merged with the storm and yaweh that gives us the Jewish God of today.. There are also certain psalms that clearly have an Egyptian origin bringing up example number 8) bring up Psalm 104 and in another window bring up the Egyptian "hymn to aten" you'll see it's almost a word for word copy in some areas. . Another scholarly work in this field "Mythology Among the Hebrews and Its Historical Development" Ignác Goldziher
