in 1960s houston, tx, my piano teacher, a little grey haired widow, had 2 (TWO!!!) Steinways in her living room. my parents bought a house which had a full harp upright Poole from Boston. after Mom had it re felted and tuned, it inexplicably remained perfectly tuned for 30 years

Unreal demo. Top chops and obviously tuned; was any voicing done on the hammers? Even having been involved with the industry for a while now, I find it difficult to understand what really makes the difference for entry level, since the components are so similar and many claims are not presented with any evidence. Plate and strings are essentially the same for entry or high end. Claims about wood for the soundboard I don’t really believe, except maybe laminated vs solid. Action is much the same for entry vs high end. Build robustness (bracing underneath etc) is a real factor but entry level now seem to be just as heavily built as high end. Hammer voicing seems a big area to distinguish in tone.

Only the old Blüthners can create this majestic pillowy sound reminescent of a warm breeze, not too dark, but beautifully soothing. The pianos they currently produce are somehow devoid of this feature and I think it's a huge shame. I wish I knew what changed in them that this old magic seems now to be gone. Beautiful performance!

How much is this

I have a beautiful 1904 Chickering & Son Baby Grand Piano. Was in the Pharmaceutical CEO’s music room (J.D. Searle & Co) and they had an artist paint it with the original paint still on it and paint is in great condition. I am looking for a wonderful home for this one of a kind piano. If anyone knows where i can find one please let me know.

@21299 I bought a G-185 brand new from AZ Piano on Interstate 10 in Jan. 1996 exactly like this one, high gloss black, just beautiful. They called the 6'1" an Artist Grand at the time. I wanted a real grand, not a "baby" grand. I sold it in July 1996, not because I wanted to but because I had a note on the piano and I had to sell it to pay off the note so they would let me have a mortgage. It was a short love affair, but the guy who bought it did so for his wife as a gift and he lived high on the mountain top in Paradise Valley. So it got moved up on the mountain behind the golf course, behind the resort on Lincoln Drive and I lost track of it afterwards. I always wished that I could track it down and buy it back, but its just been too many years but it sure is nice to hear yours play so beautifully. I absolutely loved mine and I really miss it. How often does a piano that is taken apart and moved have to be tuned!!?? I imagine after a big move it will have to be tuned before performance time?! Thanks??

Pricing is really important. What I found to be even more important when shopping for a used piano was the reputation / integrity of the seller. Is the piano they are selling being represented truthfully? That is what I found to be a challenge. When I visited Stilwell Pianos after seeing their inventory on line, I found that in every case, the condition of each piano that I looked at there was 100% as conveyed online. I ended up purchasing a super nice Steinway B from Stilwell. Have owned it now for 2+ years - absolutely love it.

Just had my 1917 AA tuned last week. And the tuner was like you...just wanted to fiddle around with it post tuning because it was a M&H and it begs to be played.
