Cowboy Boots - 3 Things to Look For When Buying
Found this video after purchasing my first pair of Tecovas boots for my dress blues. That’s about all they’re good for, dress. They are comfortable to wear throughout the day but they’ll get scuffed quickly if a dog steps on your toes, ask me how I know. They’re good-looking boots though and they seem well-made as the video suggests.
@@JustinMynatt thank you for the feedback. Really need to do an updated video. Thank you for the comment!
Respectfully askingg you SIR ,what is tge BEST work boot that i coukd buy for around 225.00 soft toe waterproof moc toe. Im a single parent with 100% custody of my 2 sons since wifes gone and work in electrical field wiring fire systems on my feeton concrete ,ladders construction sites ..ive had Plantars fascitis in both feet but now just in one .your opinion willhelp my decision. As i cant afford to waste money on boots thst will hurt ...Im hooeful someday to have a great pair of customs but for now My sons needs come first ,.I am hopeful for your professional advice..
My steel-toe Thorogoods are pretty comfortable, but not sure how they have held up very well over the last 90 days. I am a tire technician and I polish the boots with Kiwi or Sno-Seal each week

Love my Thorogoods!
“Killer boots man” 😆👍
“Killer boots man” 😆👍
My collar is blue and my money is green. Thorogoods are great for work.
Hello what sole protectors are you using on this
can I send mine ones to you to be fix ? please send me the address
Ship to my shop. The address is 20 N Winston St, Reynolds GA 31076
$1k for a good pair of boots? Youre smokin crack bro.
Find me a boot thats steel toe, gets 18 miles a day, warm in the winter, cool in the summer, takes a beating from kneeling, kicking heavy objects into place, good on metal stairs and latters, comfortable on concrete and gravel, can be waterproofed and clean up well from wet concrete, grease, oil etc ... Thorogood answers all that for me.
I returned my thorogoods, I wasnt impressed and seeing a $80 price jump in 3 years didn't help in my opinion
Manny, Curious what sweign machine you are using there.?
Cobra 5550. Juki makes it cheaper.
How much to resole them like this?
Varies. This particular sole is $250
How much does this cost? Seems hard to justify on a boot that is sub $300 and requires basically no break in to be comfortable.
Start out at $170 if welts need to be replaced it’s a little more. Overall is the uppers are in good condition, it would be worth it.
@@MannyTheBootmaker to clean and polish is extra?
@DTLA27 cleaning and conditioning is included in the rebuild.
I love them, I bought them at the Tecovas Caimans at store in Dallas. They are my business boots, mostly office work. I use my old Danner ARMY combat boots to hunt. Cowboy boots just are not the technology for hunting, combat, or gripping rocks on long hikes. My Tecovas Caimans look and feel fantastic. I have had great luck with all boots made in Mexico and Texas, except for some suede ones which really should only be for dress I learned after uglifying them.
In short, Jim Green is the undefeated king of good boots under $300
You don’t need 700 for a good pair of boots, my 260 dollar steel toe redwing 8” lace ups were the best boots I ever put my feet in. Lasted 2 years before I quit the job I was at would recommend over the every 6 month pair I was getting before that.
The resole costs more than buying a new pair of Cole Haan.
Or buy a pair of Franks Patriots for under $400
Thorogoods are ok I guess. I’m an ironworker and the majority of our boots the stitching always comes off. Specifically the heel area. We’ll be lucky to have em last atleast a year. 6-8 month mark they are blown out PERIOD! Overrated if ya ask me
Thorogood is where you go if you want out of the box comfort, a timeless design, and paid or boots UNION made in the United States. I love mine. Red wings are great but take forever to break in. Also timeless and union made in the USA. Can’t go wrong with either.
Love the look of those 1957’s. The 8” especially…too bad theres no good cobblers locally around if i wanted to test them out and resole, since the wedge sole will wear lot quicker than my normal work boots i use as a road service mechanic
@@Orr_s we take in Mail in work. Ship it to the shop. Would be happy to help.!
Why don’t you recommend a boot in the same price range if you’re not happy with this brand? Instead of just jumping from $250-$700 like there’s no option for people with only 250 to spend
Great, honest video. Tecovas are beautiful. They're built well and theyge a great dress boot. They look awesome BUT these are not built for work. They are built for steppin out. Good video man. You've got a new follower
Excellent job! Love the look. Not exactly a junk boot to begin with, BUT I’ll tell yeah, I own this style of Thorogoods and last year the pair I bought had a much thicker leather upper than the pair I bought this year. They have changed. And because of that resoles, etc, might be a thing of the past on these things because they wear out much much faster. Two months in on the new ones and they are shredding apart.
my thorogoods last me 12-18 months, and i beat the hell out of them! not to mention theyre comfortable
Earned a sub!
@@samturner3478 thank you for the support!
This guy rofl 😂😂😂😂
I seriously considered ordering a pair of Nick’s. However, after looking at the cost, somewhere between a 16 and 20 week lead time and not sure if I would be able to get the “correct” measurements, I opted not to. Instead, I purchased two pairs of Thorogoods. I too, swap them out every week. 2.5 years later they still look good and are the most comfortable work boots I’ve worn in 40 years.
Sometimes it just works out that way. The downside to ordering boots like that is that you’ll have to measure yourself and risk something not being right. With out boots, if I can’t measure you myself, I won’t make the boots. You either have to come see me or meet me somewhere on a trip. Glad the boots are working great for you. If you need them resoled keep us in mind!
@@MannyTheBootmaker ‘Failed to mention this, all of my shoes (work, cowboy boots, dress etc.) have cedar shoe trees that I install when I’m not wearing them. I suspect that has increased their life dramatically. Btw-I enjoy your videos. I’ve learned a lot from them.
This is Dan Post Milwaukee, say me please, heel on this boots stacked or bonded??
@@ИзидаЦ the heels are fiberboard.
@@ИзидаЦ usually 70% veg tan and 30% chrome tanned leather pressed together to make this particular stack.

Whats the best work boot
I just bought a pair of Thorogood boots oommmggggg best pair of boots I ever bought!! The lace ups with the heel. Man they so comfortable and they’re stylish! I got many compliments on them 😁
… get bent. Thorogood are just fine.
For the price, yes they are just fine.
I have a very old pair of Bates from my Boot Camp days, looking forward to a revival from you brother!
@@rprdm5811 anytime would be happy to help!
Can you hold the boot closer to the camera
For you I can lol 😂
Do the tecovas have a veg tan leather insole?
If they do it’s extremely thin. Not even worth calling it a footbed.
Great work! Do you know if these sole protectors squeak on wood floors or tile?, because I have a pair of vibram Red Wings that squeak bad on certain floors and I’m looking for a solution.
It just has to do with the type of sole on the boots. Some guards don’t typically squeak.
More videos please 🙏
Working on it :)
@@MannyTheBootmaker Good to hear
I disagree.... Id much have these than Redwings. Had both, the Redwongs died first
Not even most professionals can justify $700 PNW style boots. Frankly those boots are overkill unless you’re logging or firefighting. Thorogood are fine. Carolina are fine. JK make a $300 boot that is awesome. Jim Green makes tremendous value boots.
JK 300s are $400. Franks Patriots are under $400 for a full PNW build.
Looking at Carolinas
What a waste, throw away shoes
@@vonglo4587 no necessarily. They are still leather uppers.
Why would anyone put such high quality insoles on a pair of Cole haans. This kind of treatment should be for Allen edmonds and above.
@@djtransaction1982 the customer really likes this pair of shoes lol
As a union electrician I’m going with thorogoods I was a redwing/Irish setter guy and then switched to thorogood.
For the price, they are good boots. I think people misunderstand the video. Really I believe they just read the title and not watch 😂
They could design a work cowboy boots by using Vibram V100 sole for traction without big chunky soles. They could take inspiration from PNW boots (Whites or Nicks or Wesco( for durability
They can but they won’t due to the price of better materials. They are making plenty of money selling what they are selling now. Lol.. I agree with you.
Or why not just buy the thorogoods, take care of them and have a cobler work on them, repair as needed. Many work places off vouchers for boots.. usually average I see is about $150 which is barely half the cost of a thorogood safety toe.
You're out of your fucking mind if you think you gotta spend 1000 for a good boot😂
What brand of boot saver is that?
We use vibram. I also use crespino sheets
