I usually find reader comments to be interesting, and these so far are just that. To each his own taste in literature, as in all the creative arts, I suppose. I prefer detective/crime stories that focus on the crime and detection with less to be heard about the foibles, passions, idiocies etc. of the detectives and other characters. I often find many characters in fiction who are annoying, tiresome, or plain dull. Doesn’t matter what are their gender, age, occupation or other demographics. I have the privilege to not read them without disparaging the social value of the subject matter or the literary value of the writing. Nor do I feel a need to be negative about the quality of the narration. That again, is a matter of taste. I’m just thankful for all the people who post audiobooks for me to sample. Inevitably I find some that suit my admittedly narrow taste for detective fiction focused on plot, and I’m happy with that.

I wasn’t sure I would like Holmes being married but the beginning of the book, with him describing the mail to his sight-challenged wife, justifies everything. I’m now quite sure I will love this book.

Americans tend to pronounce things differently than English speakers in other parts of the world. Here we think that Brits pronounce words strangely.
Americans speak English correctly. It's everyone else who can't get it right!
