Why Everyone Leaving Adobe for Affinity Photo & Davinci Resolve

Everyone is leaving Adobe for a while now, for Affinity Photo and Davinci Resolve and for good reason. I'm already using Davinci Resolve for video editing for almost 2 years now and recently purchased Affinity Photo as well, to replace Adobe photoshop and Adobe Lightroom with it. Adobe broke my heart a few years ago, their prices which were one time, then monthly, then yearly, then the cancel fees are just a slap to millions of people, one insider said they planned on limiting the average people to focus on bigger design companies/corporations. They just plainly do not care for the average user, and are willing to loose millions by slapping and not listening to their normal low end designers or even beginners which loved their software. The legal theft has grown to an all time high in Adobe and I replaced After Effects and Photoshop thanks to some cool software companies that over the past years have listened to the requests of normal people. I love that because of them listening to us unlike Adobe, they are getting features the same and even better than Adobe software. Their prices are one time, and their ears are open all who give them advice or requests. Pros, average, new designers are seeing Adobe's abuse on their own people. I hope they all can see and get what they need from different design software companies without feeling like a slave of Adobe.

I use and am very satisfied with Davinci! in regards to Affinity: Is there an Ai based photo restoration tool? Some photos need more than de.noising and sharpening. If there is, does it means Affinity owns and can use your content as ADOBE does?

All it takes is a large publishing house Tech dept and accounts dept to suggest a switch to Affinity. A small amount of training downtime and Adobes revenue is reduced and the company is saving money in zero rental costs. This keeps happening then finally Adobe is no longer the monopoly. Who is going to be first?

To develop Raw files, DxO PhotoLab is excellent (though not cheap, it is more economical than paying for an Adobe subscription). To develop Raw, edit photos and to manage image files, ACDSee Ultimate is great (better than Affinity Photo for Raw). I have them both, and the Affinity programs as well (from which software suite, Affinity Photo is the one I use the most), and they are all very good. I have Sony cameras and there is a free program from Sony that allows developing Raw (but it is kind of basic), and also to do tethering (which I anyway don't do connecting the camera to a computer, as there are a few programs that allow me to trigger my newest Sony camera from my tablet or cell-phone).

I’m spending $80 a month for magazine publishing. Graphics department primarily uses In Design then Photoshop and the pages are exported online as pdfs. Does Afinity also have the ability to publish like In Design does? Does Afinity have any AI abilities like PS or is there a plugin that works with it?

    • @nls3081

Does Afinity also have the ability to publish like In Design does? YES, Affinity Publisher, and is an exactly InDesign clone. Affinity can export directly in PDF. Does Afinity have any AI abilities like PS or is there a plugin that works with it? NO, but that's exactly the point of being cheap. AI means a subscription model, because it needs a lot of processing power (hardware, graphic cards, or renting the hardware) and lots of side programming. Meanwhile, Affinity doesn't need AI, because its selection tools are quite good. It lacks just a better algoritm for eliminating things from a picture, but there are other good solutions for that (Capture One, ON1 Photo Raw, etc)

After attempting to resolve for a second time, after the first adobe supervisor told me the issue I was having was resolved, I got absolutely nowhere. My issue was a result of adobe blocking any further use of adobe suites 6, which I purchased in cd form. When they told me the version I “purchased “ was no longer supported and they were not able to provide support, I told them, I don’t need support I just need adobe to stop blocking the version I purchased, from working. They repeatedly attempted to upsale me with a monthly plan, telling me how good it is. After speaking with them for almost an hour I asked to speak with their supervisor to make a formal complaint. They advised me I would be contacted the following day. No one ever attempted to contact me. I found affinity publisher, which I feel is a better product than indesign, and is much less expensive. I will never recommend or use adobe again. And will attempt to steer anyone away from adobe if I have a chance.

Not a pro photographer, more of a hobbyist who gets paid sometimes. But I've been doing some research recently and Photomator or Darkroom appear to be the best Lightroom alternatives right now. I just purchased affinity photo 2 outright and while I haven't learned how to use it properly yet, it seems like a Photoshop replacement. Pixelmator pro is fantastic for this too (and simpler to use) which I've owned for years and it just keeps getting better with updates. I find it a little lacking compared to Affinity Photo in features though and as of right now the best combination appears to be Photomator and Affinity Photo 2, in my unprofessional opinion.

I am not yet subscribed to Adobe and I don’t plan to. Yes, roughly 10 bucks a month is not that much but the idea to pay that for the rest of my life is insanity. They put a lot of work into the catalog so that you get attached to it and don’t want to lose it ever again. The editing part can be replaced easily but they know they can trick people into lifelong payments as long as they become their essential asset management homepage.

BTW, Affinity was recently purchased by Canva which has a huge user base. The one app missing from Affinity is a lightroom clone. Just like Photoshop, you can do RAW image editing in Affinity Photo. But just like Photoshop, it's a bit cumbersome if you have a lot of pictures. But if you have an interest, the free trial is fantastic. BTW, I used Illustrator and Photoshop a bit and always found them unintuitive. I found Affinity very intuitive. If you love the way Adobe functions and think it is intuitive, you may have to relearn a few things with Affinity. Hey, it's different software so it is expected.

I'm currently making this switch for photo (DxO PureRAW4 + Affinity Photo 2) and use Photo Mechanic to manage assets. Not perfect but looking forward to ditching Adobe. (If you need the best color management consider Capture 1 for that even though it's another subscription). Another alternative could be DxO PhotoLab Elite, as it looks at your existing folder structure. DaVinci Resolve is a steeper learning curve for me but amazing re: quality.

@@lazydude5681 Interesting. I've had _very_ good results with Inkscape's Trace Bitmap function, both for simple line art like icons as well as much more complex full color objects. As much as I'd like to see this in Affinity, Inkscape fills this gap for me extremely well.

Hey guys who will watch this video in the future! I didn't want to create a separate video for this but I was wrong. Koji has been acquired by Linktree, which means Linktree is probably still the number 1 link in bio. Though this doesn't mean they improved anything or offer more opportunities so far.

So please explain how a photographer who basically runs a business through Lightroom can switch. A photographer with 3/4 million images or more spread across 4 or 5 drives, all in one catalog. using Smart Collections, Smart Publish Collections, etc. Tell us how these other programs enable you to proof images to clients, send finals, etc., all from within them, without ever changing the original image, and not requiring duplicate or modified files because all the edits are maintained in their catalog. Explain how 1 photo from those 3/4 million can be found in a few seconds using a plethora of search tools like LrC offers. Sorry friend, I simply haven't seen a replacement for LrC. I happen to think the "Photography" subscription bundle, at the price of about 4 McDonald's coffees a month ...is well worth it with no replacement in sight. Adobe does need to retroactively stop pirating user content. They should limit it to things created using their freely supplied content and make the rest purely 'opt-in', with no program access denial if you don't. Fix that, and all is well.

If you're happy with Adobe's proprietary system, keep it. He's just letting you know that there are alternatives. There are a dozen decent PS alternatives and Davinci beats Pr and AE by a mile. LR is a good product and difficult to replace, but that may not always be the case. Keep your eyes open.

People who are on the internet for fun will know this. Folks who are making review videos and not making money from art are like this RUclipsr. They are there to make you question prices, but they are not there to think about how to increase your business and make more money from it. Most of them are not even in the business, and they don't understand what Adobe Creative Suite means from a bigger perspective. Bros and sis, it’s a business, not just Photoshop for fun. It’s not about editing 9 photos for your Instagram feed on a Sunday afternoon or making 1 video per month. Get over it. It's professional software, and it costs money. These costs are nothing compared to the prices of the work that can be done with this software. Plus, accept the fact that the hourly rate for using this suite is basically the price of this kit, which offers everything you need at a professional level.

@@WhiteRabbit-ci4oy You completely misrepresented his argument. It's like you didn't even watch the video. He was quite clear Adobe's software is fine but he disagrees with the subscription model. Not everyone is a successful professional with hundreds of dollars to spend on a sub. For those people, there are alternatives. Nuff said.
