This is from a US videocassette companion release in 1992 to the 5 part documentary miniseries "Bringing it all Back Home: The Influence of Irish Music in America." This footage was not in the original broadcast program aired on the BBC, RTE, and PBS in 1991. The audio however was released on CD in the late 90s. Another video companion released by the BBC contained their performance of The Holy...
Clancy, O'Connell and Clancy - Live from the Blackthorne Tavern

February 10, 2003 Live from the Blackthorne Tavern in Easton, Massachusetts. Living where I am, I'd been lucky to attend countless concerts with all the various lineups of the Clancy and Makem families throughout the 80s, 90s and early 2000s. Of all the shows I attended, this is my all time favorite. So glad I captured it with my camcorder all those years ago. It was an intimate evening, in a s...

Qué temazo 🇪🇦👍🏻 This song broke my soul...
Changed my mond about these 2 actually 3 losers😅
This song, covered by many, often Irish, was written by David Mallett, an great songwriter and performer from Maine, USA
I always thought that song was A Canadian song....But its very popullar in Ireland
This is so excellent,2024.
I was happy for Robbie that he had this short-lived stint with Liam and Donal. This trio was brilliant in every sense, unlike those mediocre years of Robbie playing with Paddy, Tom, and Bobby where the singing was often uninspiring. You can see(and hear) Liam's joy playing with his son and nephew. Thanks for posting. I also commend the group for working up a lot of wonderful new material.
Just fab.
Sadly they are all gone now. They were the best.
A classic
Class proper musicians
I remember being in Halifac about 30 years ago and Tpmmy and I am fairly certain Liam.were a few seats away. I have loved their work and Other family works like Kilkelly ÷ goes without saring I am an Irish descendant, My grandfather's grandfather came to Prince Edward Island in about 1838. Stay well always....
Two great men.
Just listened to the Spain kids play this at the An Ri Ra festival in Butte America! It was grand!
I mean, this has its own charm, but the Longest Johns versions is better imo. Just higher production value, harmonies, and all that.
He turned the song into a drama. And Mr Clancy, bless his soul, turned a masterpiece.into a supernova
I can’t believe this was posted. My wife and I were there that night!! What an absolutely amazing find. We still have the CD we bought after the show. Thank you SO MUCH!!
Ní bheidh a leitheid arís ann
Great music, but a horrible recording, Mono, distortion, & restricted frequency response, It sounds like it was recorder from a TV! Sorry...😫
This song is a big part of how we coped with losing Stan.
Amazing to think that this song was written by the same man who gave us "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face."
Ewan MacColl is a true treasure, gave us "Dirty old Town" and "The Band played Waltzing Mathilda" into the bargain
@@seangrogan3622 Eric Bogle wrote "The Band Played Waltzing Matilda."
@@NSResponder Thank you, was in my cups when I ruminated that up, "Moving on" song is one of my great favourites beside the Shoals of Herring. "Waltzing Mathilda" was done so well by Liam Clancy and the Pogues too.
It's a banger tho
Na..good Try norma
Another Irish singer that does this song is Jason MCGilligan
Now singing with the Angels❤
I applaud you for delivering these epic seafaring songs ❤😊
me too!
We played this beautiful song at my Father's Funeral Mass!
The Irish outlaw songs still ring through the rafters long may they continue
Don't do it
Fine actors playing up the romantic version of Paddy for the sentimental yanks..thats all..... Liam and Makem only musicians.... two lads in middle passengers.... Fair play for the accolades and renown but not a patch on The Dubliners or Planxty .... they started a gimmick and got away with it
If you want a different version of this, then go find My Son John. The Imagined Village do a great, and updated version of that...
Heartbreaking
Just fantastic . They both sang so well together. I was lucky enough to meet Tommy on a flight to Boston , he signed a tape for me . His reciting of raglan road is the best Rendition of a poem I have ever heard .and puts so much emotion into the poem . Check it out ( look up Tommy makes Gentle Annie) Liam Clancy had a beautiful style of singing . Ask Bob Dylan 👍
Serious talent. Can’t imagine anyone following in their footsteps, I’m listening to the Clancy brothers and Tommy Makem since they started out, and still think they were an amazing group of really talented people
Dave Mallet’s forever song sung so well.always make us feel better.
You can’t beat this. I loved John Denver but this is explosive.
Beautiful songs and music from Makem and Clancy Con Horan Newbridge Kildare
.... never NEVER let the Bastards get you down!!!
I never saw Tom perform, sadly. Missed some opportunities. But I did get to see the combination of Paddy, Bobby and Liam with Robbie O'Connell a number of times. They were regulars at an Irish Fair in Los Angeles during much of the 90s. It was a great opportunity to not only hear them perform together but to chat with them in the casual atmosphere of the Fair. I did also see Liam with his son Donal and Robbie as well. Those are times we can never see again, but for the great recordings and such historic video such as this. The whole of the Bringing it all back Home program is magnificent.
I'm pretty sure this was the last performance that Liam and Bobby ever did together.
The lyrics are different than what’s written in the song book :o
Wonderful
It's all that,it for some reason reminds me of my father , uncles over in London during the 60/70 /80s for the life of me I dunno why.
Two legends
Thank God for their lives and music. RIP Fellows
I got to hear the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem music listening to my grandmother's radio when I was just we little boy, I always loved the Clancy Bros and Tommy music, I wish that I had got the chance to see them play live, they were brilliant, they were the greatest ambassadors of Irish folk music Scottish English European and American folk music also the very best ambassadors for the Irish people at a time it was easier to put the great Irish people down in some places.
Their music stands the test of time. Check out the The Mary Wallopers belting out the Makem & Clancy song The Bould O'Donaghue on this year's Jools Holland New Year's Eve show ruclips.net/video/RLSrmWq1hL0/видео.htmlsi=XGSjNrkMdAYcHjWU ... Can't beat the original version though ruclips.net/video/GElt7F9lzag/видео.htmlsi=FqjivxjYQkxFhoxO
Those boys did far more for Irish folk music and retold the history of Ireland, The Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem were the original Fab 4 before their cousins the Beatles appeared in the seen, Yes John George, Paul and Ringo were all of good Irish stock
Great
Johnny I hardly knew ya is very similar in matter of factness - so low in flesh, so high in bone.. indeed yer dancing days are done
37:20 Four Green Fields 💚
32:00 Rambles of Spring
You could feel the tension between Bobby and Liam.
They were the best!
